Ohh, American M60's, Russian T54's T72's, even an F14 or 3. That isn't a challenge militarily for the USA. The challenge would be policing a country of nearly 80 million people with whatever contingent we put on the ground. We could probably invade, and defeat Iran with as few as 90K troops, and achieve success, but you can't hold a state, and keep civil order with ratios like 888:1. Even getting that ratio up to a manageable 80 to 1 ratio would require a commitment of a million troops. NGH!

We did police Japan, but you have to keep in mind we had a wartime draft, and an army several fold anything we could field on the ground today without a draft. Plus we had huge numbers on the ground there to boot. To the professional soldier the reservists are bad enough! Draftees would be a nightmare for them to reign in! On top of, I've lived in Germany, they are pretty orderly.

@OLO992 No I would not like the US to invade Iran just like I didn't want them to invade Afghanistan and Iraq. Americans should stay in America and only be concerned with their own geopolitical issues. I am not Iranian but to ask me on Iranian govt I am happy with their foreign policy, not so happy with their human rights record and political freedoms. But they are domestic issues to be dealt by Iranians not you or I. I believe freedoms in Israel and the occupied territories to be worse.
