what kind of game do you have in mind?

  • @YourNerdyJoe probably an RPG (role playing game) similiar to fallout and fable and oblivion not like super hardddcore but just for fun and what languages r u familiar with

  • @pinkorama98 I'll send you a message right after i google fable and oblivion

  • @pinkorama98 i wouldn't make it with lua, its to lightwight not to mention a scripting lang.

  • Damn i wanna do that with my friends

  • @scratchpost who needs to sell it? Like to see you make somthing like that!

  • At least they aren't in the basement... that would have just been too much of a cliche

  • @scratchpost got enough time to comment on youtube videos though, ROFL

  • @scratchpost you can't go make crysis 2 your first game dude, you have to start simpler and start catching up wit htechnology, besides f its somethign you enjoy doing it and you are learning a lot form it, you are not wasting your time.

  • @scratchpost You clearly have no idea what doing something you enjoy just because you enjoy doing it is like. I sincerely hope you find something meaningful in your life, because your attitude leads me to believe that it's pretty dull and unfulfilling.

  • @GyroVorbis you can do whatever you want, but why not make a game for xbox 360 or the pc or something? What made you decide that the dreamcast was the best option?

  • @scratchpost Because people can learn a lot about developing for a console by programming for the dreamcast and some people enjoy making video games for fun?

  • @scratchpost meh. why is everyone all about making money?

  • @scratchpost You clearly don't get it.

  • 1:57 You look like my grandma... Get that back str8 or you'll act like my grandma in 10 years from now.

    Source:

    Common Sense!

  • 2:02 marcels back was terrible! tell him to work for his body posture, seriously,.

  • This is a really awesome series; thanks for making it, but every time I see Peter using Notepad to write Perl I want to cry...

  • @richard92m: Haha, every time I see Peter write Perl in ANYTHING, I want to cry....

  • @richard92m I just want to be able to read the stuff. The graphics quality really sucks. Poor fellows. They desperately, need help.. lol

  • @MrHolgerPedersen I have a great idea. Why don't you go fuck yourself?

  • @GyroVorbis i'm coding and practiciong while watching your videos, well sometimes i just listen lol, great videos man.

  • @GyroVorbis Someone's on their period

  • @MrHolgerPedersen You, Mr. Holger Pedersen, have absolutely no idea what you are talking about — these guys do a great job :)

  • @MrHolgerPedersen

You can even do that stuff. so shut up...

  • @MrHolgerPedersen

Anyone who would have a fuckin clue would know graphics arent everything.... dumbass

  • In case other posts did not work.... i gather C++ is too full on for the newb and one should work up from basic to C++ or C# a lot of people shun learning c++ as first prog language.WoW man been following the you guys vids for a while ( A HWHILE >>> COOLHWHIP yes i like family guy lol ) looking forward to the end results if you ever need a beta tester id be happy to in between my studies

  • Is it true that Students get Visualstudio for little or no cost? its about 5k for a copy i noticed... whats the difference between the express editions and the latter like your using?

  • @krizem: Yep, it's very true. The copy of VS2008 that I'm using right now didn't cost me a penny through the college of Engineering at my University. To be honest, I don't know what the difference is between the full and express editions. I've never used the express. =/

  • @gamemak0r, you heard completely wrong. The back-end is all low level C/++. Lua is just for scripting.

  • Um, you said you weren't going to reveal anything but you are planning an online game yes?

  • 2:01 BAD BACK LOL

  • Why do you use notepad rather than an IDE?

  • ide's usauly force you to do something notepad gives you all the control you want

  • if u mean fixing ur errors then its a good thing xD

  • @gamemak0r DevC++ forces you to do nothing, think of it as notepad with a debugger, compiler and syntax hilighting built in...

  • I think the best part of your desktop is how you've made sure that none of your shortcuts cover up the girl.

    Spot on!

  • @darkchiron I do the same thing.. lol

  • "We're listening to Megaman Legends 2" ... must've missed that the other times I watched the video 8D , that's some really nice Ambient music

  • is that little kid running around your brother from chapter 16>?

  • Yep, that's Andrew.

  • Haha that kid is awesome

  • good to remember where rhis all started

  • hehe :D

    nice wallpaper!

  • cout << "Oooh... FAILUR!!!" <<endl;

    XD

  • hey whats with the girl on the computer wallpaper? And also whats with some little kid runnign around?

  • I decided to go over all the videos once again, just to refresh - who the heck am I working with ;P

  • I wish I had friends who were programmers or at least interested in programming. I'm alone dangit. I have friends who are professional in 3D modelling and 2D design but thats only two people. You're very lucky~

  • Well im an beginner in c++ and I would love to get my friends to start with c++ :P At least try it. It soooooo fun :D

  • Hahaha same here :) Well hopefully in a couple of months I'm off to study a software engineering course alongside game design. Lets see how that fares :D

  • for game programming on the pc, the minimal you need to learn is a language, and some kind of api like allegro (easiest imo), sdl, opengl, or directx(hardest imo)

    i think thats about it

  • do you need to learn win32 for game programming?

and why are there no books availble that cover win32

  • Well if you look at some behind the scenes videos of games you will see that some people even sleep in their office or do not sleep at all. Most of the time its around release dates or deadlines in which most of the "non" sleeping occurs.

  • @davidthefat

programmers overall work long hours even game programmers..i read a few years ago the average game programmer works over 80 hours per week.

  • wow, it is wierd to go back and watch the old videos. lol

  • LOL do professional game programmers (like the ones that work for EA and stuff) stay up late? BTW LUA is easy...

  • OK, So I messed around with game maker and stuff in 6th grade, if you do actually use gamemaker the "hardcore" way, its just like any other languages, the program is the IDE and you are using gamemaker language, but you know, I like C++ way better since im better at it and its more flexible... so why not?

  • no its not.. gml is more like scripting to an engine...

you dont acctuly write the game loop and stuff. Its more like a presentation of the drag and drop stuff in text.

  • Game maker is more like a "beginners" program for making games.

oh, and how much do you know in c++?

  • I know everything in every beginner c++ book

  • so, do you know any win32 or or stuff for making games?

  • Well I tried learning Direct x but GDK was easier

  • how much c++ is that? its not enough to know how to write a simple hello world program.

  • how to program graphics with perl?

  • you would have to implement a graphical library.

  • thanks

  • lol nice background :D

  • im 12 years old im useing game maker because im not gud in scripting i like to make games im busy whit an rpg game i whis you luck whit your game development

  • lol why do we care how old you are again?

  • Hi.

I would actualyl reccomend another program to you if you can afford it. It's called The Games Factory 2; it requires pretty much no programming at all as it is the most basic version of that program. Basically all you have to do is specify events and import graphics and stuff; its demo comes with a handy tutorial. I highly recommend it for someone like you who is just getting into developing games and such. However, it would be useful to learn a language.

  • it schould be possible to learn a language whatever age you are..

(say's i who sucks at speaking english.. lol)

  • Maybe you should work on the English language before you pick up a programming language.

  • Kind of a late response, but you guys REALLY should stop telling kids to use programs like Game Maker and Game factory. It won't help with programming or game design theory AT ALL. Well, maybe a bit, but your VERY restricted.

  • I didn't, in fact i discourage it.

  • damn pressed the wrong thumb, wanted to negative.

  • It wasn't directed at you, actually. It was to the guy who replied to you about it.

  • Messy work place dudes.

  • That was amazing. The best part was the little kid walking around your room randomly.

  • AHAHA I really laugh at how he talks shit about Maurcell, lmao.

  • Love you wallpaper!:D Keep it. I'm working on a small game of my own, but you guys are quite an inspiration.Keep up the good work!

  • Im learning Blitz atm... i lol'd at how he fell asleep

  • How did you get Perl to work on a dreamcast?

  • Based on the fact that you're the only person who has said anything negative about it, and the rest of the comments are like NICE BACKGROUND!!11one...

    no.

  • I love it! It acuretly shows indie developers at their brightest! I believe that Microsoft can only envy this superior talent.

    5/5

  • damn!, it look so damn fun to make games with your friends. I'm about to start making a game with my friend, but we meet only in class, anyway its fun and cool making games, gl guys

  • what IDE are you using, because it looks a bit like notepad?

  • I use MSVC++ for C/++ and the engine. You must be referring to Peter's Perl scripts. As far as I know, yeah, he codes in notepad. He's hardcore.

  • lol notepad, why not notepad++. it'll be easier for him to read the code.

  • Which version of VC++ do you use?

  • Visual C++ 08

    why?

  • That was 6.0, not 08...

  • Meh, Im learning to program, im almost 13.

  • Meh, Im learning to program, im almost 13.

  • i bought a book, in case others are interested. It is learn C++ in 24 hours, but C is so dependent on which compiler u are using, make sure not to lose the CD it comes with, lol

  • im getting in to c++ programing and wondering a good site to use? or tuts...maybe you could tell me lol

  • Wish I had some programming friends. But try to find 13 year old kids that program. =(

  • i had 10 years when i start

  • you guys have inspired me to get some friends together and start makin a game...looks awesome

  • you guys have inspired me to get some friends together and start getting hot desktop backgrounds...looks awesome

  • HAHAHA! Hell yeah.

  • I'd be so annoyed if I was marsel - he looked like he was doing something and moaning at him is not going to help! Lol

    Great work guys

  • Looks can be deceiving.

  • Lol. Cut the guy some slack.

Anyway, can't wait to see how it all turns out.

  • lol, Marcel reminds me of someone i know....

  • hahahaha funny shit.. good luck

  • that is a fuckin sweet setup. Id love to be just makin a game with my mates like that. props xx

  • I'll make one with you, me lovly xx

  • hey I got a question im working on a homebrew rpg for Linux operating systems and the wii, do you have any suggestion on a specific program to use, im currently using .deb C++ compiler

  • I use VisualC++ as my source editor/project manager for what I do on Dreamcast.

I use it to compile when I do OpenGL or SDL. I use another compiler for Dreamcast (and just edit in VC++).

  • ok, thanks, im not a big Microsoft person soooo yeehhhh

  • shiiiit son, Locoroco!

  • I fixed that program. Now, it works.
