Everyone keeps going on about the T5 being Stage 3 tuned, but, in all honesty, how does anyone know? The author of the video wouldn't know by looking at the car so how does he/she know that the Volvo is Stage 3 tuned?
The E46 looks much more robust than the E36 IMHO. I would put in the Signature Motoring performance intake kit for only around $150 and gain up to 13HP on the stock output for the 330i and a bit less for the 325 and 328. I highly recommend this item, see my youtube channel for the action video on it.
@aleksankazakov stage III S60 means over 330hp and over 330 ft/lbs torque, BMW's don't have the torque to keep up with a tuned Volvo, they're both excellent cars though

Nice to see the discussions about my old car. This are the facts about the car in this video. Its a Volvo S60 T5 -03 with Ferrita full exhaust from turbo incl 100 cells race kat and ECU from MTE, NOTHING else. The M3 misses the start but when we had similar starts, the cars were dead even.
There is actually an Audi S6 340hp also participating in this race but he was left behind (M3 driver has Audi driver on the phone during the race).

the 2.5r of the s60 gets from 0 to 100km/h in 5.4sec, it has 300HP and 5cil; the new bmw M3 of 2008 gets from 0 to 100km/h in 5sec and its got 420HP with an 4.0l V8 engine ; even with so much power more the bmw is only 0.4sec faster; ist just redicoulas so stop telling that the M3 WILL WIPE VOLVOS ASS
Well that 0.4 sec doesn't sound much, but when we talk about 5 sec total than thats much. It's the same in speed. from 0-300 you need about 400/500hp? But from 300-400 you need about 1000hp.
The volvo is easier to moddify though. you can make it quick just with extra boost. Any turbo charged car with a block that can handle extra power is extremely cheap and easy to modify. Not to mention that the volvo, with the modifications would still be cheaper than the m3.
a modded t5 will easily make 300bhp with remap and filter, more torque than the m3, about 400nm to the m3s 365nm. and its 70kg lighter. hence stuffing it in a roll on test, off the line the m3 would win every time though.

well s60 is for sure a good car with good acceleration but i can not believe that a car with turbo engine and 180 bhp beat the mighty M3 with 320 bhp i mean this is stupid.
The T5 provides 260 hp stock. If you would've cared to read the additional info in the upper right corner, you'd read that the car is tuned to a stage 3 specification, most likely the BSR platform; 350hp and 491Nm.
A nice thing about turbo cars: they are rather easy to tune by design...
Ok here is the thing...I am Swedish, but I drive a BMW, and I am a big fan of BMW, I have the E92 M3, its kind hurt to see that the BMW is looking at Volvo's ass in this video. BMW is the best, but we make a good cars, too bad for me and BMW drivers.

actually this isn't a s60r this is s60T5 which has less horsepower & torque than s60r. It's amazing that <5k spent on the s60T5 can smoke this M3 which cost 20k more. Außerdem hört man am Klang des Motors ganz genau, das es ein M3 ist. Beim Volvo steht extra dabei, das er Stufe 3 hat, was ca. 380-400PS entspricht. Older and non-turbo, indeed. Say, how much more power can you get from the already heavily taxed I6 BMW engine? 343hp? 440hp? Cumbersome turbo conversion, anyone? V10 retrofitting? And BTW, Volvo tested the M3 vs the R on Anderstorp, with a chicane on the long straight; both cars ran with matched lap times.
BradV8 you´re very right, a standard M3 is faster than a S60R but not everywhere I´ve seen how a S60R (stock) beats a M3 (stock) where the altitude is 2,000 meters (6,562 ft) high over the ocean and the same race at the ocean level the M3 beats the same S60R. One thing it´s true on a race track the M3 is faster and that´s a fact but in my personal opinion I find more comfortable the Volvo for everyday´s car

In some scenarios (example I live in Mx and we are 3000ms upper sea level, this is terrible for Aspirated engines). On this cases, turbocharged and supercharged wins against powerfull V6 / V8 cars.

Aprox. 325bhp and 445nm / 328lbs/ft
weight= 1560kg /3439lbs
A Stage-3 is more like 350bhp / 500Nm

From 2005 and forward the T5 engine inherited much from the R-engine.
Among other things the KKK-24 turbo, 0.1 liter larger volume, different fuel injectors and so on
A stage-3 kit on the 2005 model contain; ECU-upgrade, larger fuel injectors, sport air filter, 3 downpipe and race-cat and 2,5 on the cat-back.
The above mentioned kit develops 350bhp and 500nm of torque.
The same kit on the 2001-2004 model develops (as you said) 315bhp and 420nm

Blev din polare duktigt ifrånkörd av en M3:a hade han INTE 327hk i motorn...
Min egen T5:a har drygt 320hk och kör helt jämnt med en E46 M3 Coupe i intervallet 50-200km/h
Men om jag upprepar rejset mot en M3 cab som väger ca. 170kg mer än Coupen så går jag vinnande ur rejset... (dock med liten marginal)

i actualy read all of this crapy comments ... volvo S60 T5 = 260hp 2.500cm3 and its alot more cheaper then your regular BMW m3 ... Now you must have a specific taste to like a car like volvo ... and like i do belive... volvo is not a car for speed loving freaks ... those ppl just buy a Rs4 ori a m3 ori a GTI or etc etc and more or less ... they do make a crass and die ... so i do like slow volvo's i do own 2 volvo's and i will love volvo's cuz oane save'd my ass 2 years ago . well s60 is for sure a good car with good acceleration but i can not believe that a car with turbo engine and 180 bhp beat the mighty M3 with 320 bhp i mean this is stupid.

The T5 provides 260 hp stock. If you would've cared to read the additional info in the upper right corner, you'd read that the car is tuned to a stage 3 specification, most likely the BSR platform; 350hp and 491Nm.
A nice thing about turbo cars: they are rather easy to tune by design...

Ok here is the thing...I am Swedish, but I drive a BMW, and I am a big fan of BMW, I have the E92 M3, its kind hurt to see that the BMW is looking at Volvo's ass in this video. BMW is the best, but we make a good cars, too bad for me and BMW drivers.

actually this isn't a s60r this is s60T5 which has less horsepower & torque than s60r. It's amazing that <5k spent on the s60T5 can smoke this M3 which cost 20k more. All you're saying is that you're willing to throw away money to support an inferior car. Volvos are inherently much better cars mechanically as well as in terms of performance/price.

Ich glaube eher, dass du schwul bist. Du hast anscheinend absolut keine Ahnung. Alleine das Interieur deutet schon an, das es sich um einen e46 handelt. Außerdem hört man am Klang des Motors ganz genau, das es ein M3 ist. Beim Volvo steht extra dabei, das er Stufe 3 hat, was ca. 380-400PS entspricht. Der Volvo verfügt über einen Turbo Motor, welcher über eine wesentlich bessere Elastizität, als der M3 Sauger verfügt.

Older and non-turbo, indeed. Say, how much more power can you get from the already heavily taxed I6 BMW engine? 343hp? 440hp? Cumbersome turbo conversion, anyone? V10 retrofitting? And BTW, Volvo tested the M3 vs the R on Anderstorp, with a chicane on the long straight; both cars ran with matched lap times.

BradV8 you´re very right, a standard M3 is faster than a S60R but not everywhere I´ve seen how a S60R (stock) beats a M3 (stock) where the altitude is 2,000 meters (6,562 ft) high over the ocean and the same race at the ocean level the M3 beats the same S60R. One thing it´s true on a race track the M3 is faster and that´s a fact but in my personal opinion I find more comfortable the Volvo for everyday´s car

I like more BMW but they are STUPID expensive. I understand engines and I know how good is the m3 (see this video)... remember, is only a 3.2lts engine but with 30,000 usd tech

S60R is a very good rival for the old m3 if you put 2000 usd on it. if you have the 100,000 usd, go for the m3, but not everyone wants to spend such money on the performance car, some times they want to spend in a luxury, cool and secure car and wow! they found they can spend 2000 usd in mods and get a 100,000 usd bmw car performance! so why not? and then you see this videos on the web and the bnw owners feel bad...

Brad. I understand your point. I myself want a M3 but is TOO expensive. And the new one v8 is just great and I know the drive is a very real good experience. In some scenarios (example I live in Mx and we are 3000ms upper sea level, this is terrible for Aspirated engines). On this cases, turbocharged and supercharged wins against powerfull V6 / V8 cars.

again... you don't need to spend 100KS for mod a volvo s60R to win an M3!... you only need to spend 920USD in the BSR upgrade and 1000USD in the filter, exhaust and downpipe. With that, you get the 400HP. Regards,

Brad. Is a fact you are a BMW fan (mee too), but this is not the first time I see Volvo winning BMW m3 out there. Of course this are modded Volvos, but the volvo engine are capable to deliver 400HP+ but Volvo prefer to give a realiable / confortable / secure less power.

yes you are right in a way, but you see the mod on the volvo costs 3000 us dollars and that is not so much money... if you wanna mod the BMW its gonna cost you much more money becuase it dont have a turbo and therefore its a lot harder to tune.., the bottom line is that the much cheeper Volvo is pulling away from the expensive BMW M3!!!
