dude i have to make me a full size one it would we awsome having a robot walk around wiht you... and it could have solar panals so if it dies it can sit down and recharge untill i think it owuld have nough time to walk to my car .... why am i writing this on youtube you people will steal my idea... oh well better millians then jsut me
The Arpanet was developed to secure the communication during the nuclear war, and space rockets were made to show the power to the world. Both projects had their own purposes and they were achieved in a short period. Even if they had not invented the Internet or the Teflon, they'd still have been success at least for the developers.
On the contrary, to make working humanoid robots based on this seems to be unachievable in a decade or so. They wont go nowhere but amusement parks or museums.
They just did an interview with one of the creators of the Arpanet. He says they did it so that info one computer could be transfered to another without having to input the data separately into each computer, so Universities could share research between their computers.
The military picked up on it and used it for their own needs.
Robot development is very long term, but is planned to be a social and medical aide. The Japanese know what the long term goal is and are working to achieve it.
If this robot was developed by a private company like Ashimo, I don't care it at all. But this robot was made by AIST all funded by public money, tax. Taxpayers have the right to question the way of using tax. Why do we need the dancing robot if we face a huge budget deficit.
This robot was developed to establish the basic technology for working humanoid robot. But as you see, we are so far from that goal. I guess this is the reason why many countries don't spend much money for humanoid ones.
Internet were invited by USA's Army, for communication between strategic military unit's, now civilians can use it!! and can you imagine that they took money form TAXES to invited this??? how can you know how will HRP project evolve?? sorry for mistakes, English is not my native.
Actually i would argue that the "dancing" part is just for publicity reasons, it just gives more colorfull headline. Dancing would be a perfect test of the mobile capabiliites of a humanoid robot, since it is such a complex action. Just because it seams silly doesnt mean it is without merit.
Such negativity.. But I guess thats typicall for you Americans. These robots are funded by private companies, like Honda and Sony for example. So that whole tax money wasted is bullshit. At least they are trying new things.. thats called inventing. They dont really care if it has any practical application right away but instead set themselves for a challenge of building humanoid robots which is pretty darn innovative. So keep your negative anti-japanese bullshit to yourself..
Humanoid Robot Dancing IS FOR STUPID JAPS AMERICA ROBOTS CAN EASYLY STOMP YOURS INTO THE GROUND THIS THIS STATMENT DOES NOT MEAN AMER AND JAPAN SHOULD NOT BE FREINDS IN FACT WE NEED EACH OTHER MORE THAN EVER I TIP MY HAT TO TO JAPAN AND ITS VEARY SMART PEOPLE BUT LETS WORK AS ONE.
I agree with you except "stupid jap." You should have said "moron japanese" or "stupid japanese" in stead of "jap." Anyway americans will not allow idiot otaku engineers to make this idiot dancing robot.
japanese robots are acually better then american robots in a way,we each have our ups and downs.and besides,i think that robot dancing is kinda cool, knowing that we have the technoligy to make them do things like this
How much tax were spent on this dancing robot? For what purpose? To record how to dance? They'd better use HD video camera for it. Or they'd better hire and train people.
DoYou think that when AbrahamBell had invited telephone, he know that in future almost everyone could by it in shop?when Edison invited bulb, do you think that he knows then, that in modern times everyone has it?Or when someone invited Teflon?now you have it on your frying pan, but in the begining Teflon woos used as a shield in space ship, for example in Apollo program. maybe You Should ask your self, for whatIsYourComputer?because"for what purpose"SomeoneInvitedStuffThatYou CanUseEveryDay?
nkngftz: Back in the 90's I read a newspaper article that state that Japanese researchers had discovered a way for robots to get power from the digestion of protein, meat. -They aren't just gonna eat our babies! LOL
sk8blitz: Robots cannot think on their own. They have no intelligence, they can only re-enact what it's programmer programs it to do. Using "If" statements can imitate intelligence, but behind the scenes it's just a series of pre-set decisions that come into effect when certain key instances are met.
In the future it would probly determin the most logical way to save your life, logical as in reducing damage to others and property around it, i think a robot could make the choice to kill when givin a motov, such as protecting someone or something, all math eqations, humans work the same way.
all these little dancing robots are cool but im waiting for one that can run 20 miles per hour, jump, and throw grenades. really if these things are so humanoid, how come theeeyyyy moooove liikkkeee aaaaa deeeaaddd body.
Yeah man note NO control sufaces this is preprogramed show obviously. The things atached to the shoulders are just to keep that expensive robo tfrom topling if it losses balance.
not really, the AI is nowhere near the complexity required to be able to become self-actualized. If it thinks, and makes its own decisions, then I will be truly impressed. Instead of planned responses, literally teaching it the language, word by word as if to a kid. Except using advanced programming to do so, feed tons of information into it, until it reaches the point it may very well develop a personality of its own.
can it do "the human"? lol

uh, no. It is preprogrammed to do that. He is simply keeping the power cord from wrapping around the robot.

The builders don't want to spend six months fixing it just because it fell down. I'd do the same. Notice that the tether is slack at all times.
