  • @firandfirst. I appreciate your comment, but I am quite certain, that the guys sang all of the songs for real during their shows. It was great entertainment, and something that is missing today.

  • Hey, Jerry Fox is Santini

  • Bowser's the lead singer and, the cowboy who saw the devil's cattle

  • I had such a crush on Bowzer and now I know why. Love that deep bass of his! So sexy! : D

  • What the flock?

  • His voice and Spiderbait's music Excellent

  • Brilliant absolutely brilliant

  • I believe Bowser is still alive but he's pretty old and still has his deep toned voice

  • @fraziel07 - I'm not sure how old you are, but Jon Bauman is only 64 ... And yes, he still sings exactly the same.

  • Is he dead? Hard to tell, with him. I laughed so hard, tears ran down my leg.

  • The reason we dont see this kind of awesome entertainment is because people dont have as much fun doing it together anymore. Now its a bunch of cheesey butt tight TV stars playing there part. These guys had alot of fun doing this and thats what makes it classic........ Bowser is the man!!

  • Bowser is the MAN!

  • sure wish we had this type of entertainment to watch now....

  • Now that was funny !!

Any 1850s bartender that wears a wristwatch is OK in my books !!

  • It's sad 21st music industry computers would reject this fine voice as "unmarketable." I wonder just how many great singers we are denied because of a computer program.

  • The farmer's almanac!

  • My brother got me into these guys got one of their albums they are awesome!

  • Bowser rocks ... jokes suck but Bowser ftw

  • nice rendition!

  • I Love Bowsers voice. I traveled Route 66 many times from CA to MO back in the 60's. Then they put in I-40 and put so many people out of business. TY for sharing.

  • I know I'm to young to say I grew up with Sha Na Na but I love them just the same as it I had! O remember watching the reruns of the shows they were in an one year they did a 45 hour special for new years an I watched as much as I possibly could!

  • Never heard a better version of this song ever. Bowser took it to a different level.

  • Anyone notice when Santini walks in the bar he tells Lennie he wants "The usual." But then he goes on to say he's been on the trail for "2 years." (Think that was intended?)

  • as the riders went on by him, he heard one call his name...

    "hey bowzer!"

    brilliant timing

  • Fallout: New Vegas should play this on the radio...

  • as i watch this video it occurs to me that the "sha na na" tv program was in some ways a greaser version of "hee haw." and i say that with great respect for both greasers & "hee haw."

  • Nice to see Bowzer take the lead for once.

  • Ha. I am 58 and saw these guys in concert...Great music, but boy could they sing and cuss.

  • I like Spiderbait - Ghost Rider in the Sky better

  • Who is the woman in orange???

  • @garaapje

    Pamela Myers

  • Cool!

  • This was my favorite bit

  • Love, love, love his deep voice - and I loved Sha Na Na!

  • Can anyone tell me how old these guys were when they made these shows. So wish we had had them here in England. I am totally hooked. Bit late in the day but heyho. Great talent,

    Namaste

  • @Medina29able I know that Bowzer was in his early 20's, not sure how old the other are. Only 2 are still alive I have read. Bowzer is in his 60's now and does a live rock show yearly and ship cruises. He has a face book page that has a link to his web site that tells about it. His video's on his web page are really good.

  • @inspire734 Thanks - appreciate the feedback

  • @inspire734 Of the 10 that were in the show, 8 are still very much alive! Chico passed away in 1998 and Dirty Dan passed away last year.

  • @roguejulie Dirty Dan? Whatabout Pinhead Larry?

  • @inspire734 sorry correction 2 are dead and all the other 8 are still with us. from the very original group there is one gone. Vinnie Taylor (1949–1974) It owuld appear that 8 of the TV series are stil alive and ther are at leat two form the original goroup alive. great buch.

  • @Medina29able The show ran from 1978 to 81. They were all in their 30's at the time. However they were together 10 yrs before the show.

  • i said i was fast not accurate lol

  • Who plays Jerry Fox in the skits? Is that Donny?

  • @amadeusamwater

    Yes :-)

  • Oh Santini, your shyness makes me giggle like a school girl.

  • Bowzer looks like Vaughn Monroe in this video

  • You can tell the classical training , but the talent is just there. Bowser voice is magnificent. The ultimate baritone.

  • @Tonithenightowl

Complete agreement, but wouldn't he be a bass/baritone? that guy has hit a D, and he's strong enough at it I'm fairly sure he could go to a C, mebbe even a B, Buffo notes, one and all.

  • @Ironsouled sounds like you know more about it than me lol Bowser may be able to hit a C but don't think he could comfortably go beyond that.

  • @Tonithenightowl

I can go considerably lower, but I envy his clarity on his entire range. Bowzer epitomizes the perfect bass for the musical period in which he sang.

  • @Ironsouled Always thought of the bass as the backbone of a band. They are usually doing the opposite of everyone else and they keep the beat going. I'm sure it's not easy. If you can get lower than Bowser you are in the cellar dear man lol Kudos

  • @Tonithenightowl

Being a low bass is just a genetic gift (or curse, if you always wanted to be a tenor... funny song about that). Sure, a lot of men can grumble at about a E-B, depending on the voice type in question... its the skill that really sets someone apart. I'm decent, but it's the people like Barry Carl or Bowzer who deserve the kudos.

  • @Ironsouled Where do you stand with Bill Medley?

  • @Tonithenightowl

Decent, but not worth going terribly out of my way for. Of course, I've only heard a few of his songs. Why?

  • @Ironsouled He was the other half of the Righteous Bros. Always thought of him as one of the best bass voices. I was just curious what you thought of him. Thanks for responding.

  • After watching this show for so many years, it was weird to see Jon (the guy who plaed Bowzer) hosting Hollywood Squares. It was even more surprising to find out that he was college educated.

  • Ah man I used to watch this show as a little kid. I wish they reran this show.

  • Next to Bowser is Monroe but Bowser is the king of this song. His version is better hands down. His version is the best.

  • I love this song and have heard many versions but Bowser's rendition is the best in my books. Love the skit but I would have loved to hear him do this without interruption. The man is an off the charts baritone.

  • ...CLASSIC GREAT TO SEE THIS AGAIN

  • Top Top Top ??? Klasse 5*****

  • thats bowser singing. these guys could sing. no lip synch. unlike todays wanna bes

  • @firandfirst I agree they could sing but I think they pre recorded at least some of the numbers and then lip synced during the show taping. Most variety shows lip synced back then because of production costs.

  • followed these guys in the early 70s.saw them 42 times in 4 yrs. always great. got to know len baker, the sax plyer. he still sings in a local group once in awhile in brockton,ma

  • this is cool

where is the end segment of the show???

  • Wish they had just done the song. It is sooooooo good, the jokes soooooooooo old

  • Said i was fast...not accurate XD

  • This song sung by Vaughn Monroe is my all time favorite. Bowser and SNN did a great job with it! He had/has a terrific voice and talent. Hyman, listen again, they are using Vaughn's arrangement but that is definitely Bowser's voice...not Vaughn's.

  • Great, this was shortly before they became the Village people.

  • i remember these guys fondly. bowzer was my fav.

  • Ahhhhh the memories!!! It was a much simpler time and we didn't need flash to be entertained. My dad looked just like Bowser!!

  • didnt bowser later play on some cop show?

  • Hey countryrockstar2008:

" Nice comment yet talking w/ Bowzer in that segment of 'GhostRiders' was Santini & not Johnny."

  • @ContardoholicFan

Oh it is? I didnt know that. The only one I really know is Bowzer lol.

  • it was a clear shot of his hand lol

  • You got sharp eyes

    Sha nana forever

  • was Lennie married at some point b/c i noticed a wedding band in this video

  • another one Bowser did lead on. This was great.

  • you get her wasted lol and then take advantage of her lol. duh...

  • Bowser is an amazing singer - woot!

  • Johnny(I think):I'm gonna get myself a gallon of booze and a broad and copy of playboy magazine

Bowzer:What do you need the playboy for?

Johnny: To figure out what to do with the booze and the broad!

    ROFLMA!

  • Um...That was Santini.

  • @mistycat104 spot on misty btw stop using the computer or i stop feeding you

  • hahahahahaahaa

    tickled me LOLs

helped me find a smile when i'm feeling really down.

    thank you

    robbiew8n

  • freck this just enjoy the music ppl

  • Bowzer did a great job on this song! I love the song & skit!

  • I'll tell ya, some tv shows were so great they should never be off the air and Sha Na Na is one of them. Thank you so much for posting this so that a new generation can learn about Sha Na Na and us older guys and gals can relive fond memories!

  • God, what a surreal video to stumble across. I loved it! :D

  • His voice is so beautiful

  • This sure beats what is on TV these days.

  • I'll say! TV is full of garbage like all of those stupid "reality" shows that are so unreal!

  • that's copyrighted stuff ~ shame on U Jon bauman

  • Shame on you for knowing that....

  • hey ... I haven't gone to court over it ... yet :)

  • I am thinkin' someone is jealousss....

  • bauman doesn't pay Me enough ... how about U?

  • I think you're all jealous...I am just a loyal fan...How about you??

  • bauman is a cool as they come... he's just a hypocrite ... that's all..

  • I just happened to see your post. I have worked in the music business for years. The producers have to get clearance or pay ascap to perform these songs

  • k.. thanxs 4 the heads up.. bauer is dog determined to stomp, impersonators... why the passion.. do U know:

  • & I admit... I'm jealous... I've yet to find authenticate western wear.....

  • Comment removed

  • They paid for the rights or else they could not have performed it.

  • wow... U must enjoy reading comment(s) -- that was from age(s) ago... think big jon, would have disclosed more.... though

  • Bowser and the rest of SNN were a favorite of mine as a teenager back in the '70's. Watched their show religiously and even remember seeing them for the first time on a Friday nite back in 1971 on the show, "Don Kirshner's Rock Concert". Also saw them perform live in Asbury Park back when the place was really hopping (1972). I think I recall Bowser saying that they first got together in college at Columbia in the late '60's. Just a fantastic group.

  • LMAO!!!! Santini's face at 1:22 is priceless!!!! Lovin' it!!!

"I said I was fast, not accurate." ~ Denny...

    Grease4Peace

  • would love to hear Bowser sing this studio version uninterrupted, He's damn good.

  • As good as Bowser is, he still can't do the song as good as the original artist...Vaughn Monroe. His is the best Ghost Riders.

  • nah, dan ackroyd and john goodman killed it on the blues brothers 2000.

  • Blues Brothers 2000 sucked ass.

  • the movie yes, but the rendition of ghost riders and the very end at the witch queen's were badass

  • Bowser has the best voice for this song

  • " I said I was fast not accurate" 2:07

  • Bowzer was actually trained to sing opera. I grew up watching the SNN snow as a kid. They all did a great job with every song and skit they performed

  • That's right! he was classically trained. What a wonderful voice!!

  • Great version of the song

  • This guy has a voice like a tornado i watch this version from him more than 100 times still not boring he is super great . really the BEST

  • Are we sure that they are singing? This sounds exactly like the Vaughan Monroe version, both the lead and background singers. I suspect that they are lip-synching.

  • @pimbadoti Excellent description "voice like a tornado"!

  • chinga a tu madre pinche gringo si vas a hacer las cosas hazlas bien

pendejo el que opine que esta chida

  • this guy can do everything with his voice really GOD giving talent

  • Sha-NA-Na was a great group, they could just about anything

  • What a fantastic voice he has!!

  • Did Bowzer ever sing "Big Bad John?" He had the perfect voice for it.

  • Does anybody know if the Sha Na Na TV shows are available on DVD?

  • Not yet, and one of the issues might be getting clearance for the music.

  • I see -- and there are so many songs from so many different artists that it'd be tremendously complicated and time-consuming to get all that clearance. Too bad!

  • Bowser's REALLY good in this! I love the way he sings this song!

  • I just turned 40 yrs old and I used to watch The Sha Na Na show when I was a kid. It was a family tradition on Saturday nights in our house. I'm so glad to get to watch them once again. Thanks to everyone who posts the old, but still great clips.

  • I love this. I am so happy to have a part of my past here. I loved Sha Na Na. The is so damn cool. I am excited they are on youtube. I love Bowzer's deep voice. He is a nice guy too. I met him 12 years ago on a cruise.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOL man that was funny has hell xD

  • classic

  • I never saw that series. Great stuff.

  • class.

  • wow, great sense of humor !!! love them.

  • Wow, Bowser sings with as deep a voice as Vaughn Monroe.

  • if someone ever gets this series(complete of course!) on dvd or blu ray i'll buy it!

  • the thing about sha na na is one word .... fun

  • where did this come from?

  • Thank you so very much for taking the time to post these. I also did the VCR trick on a Labor Day marathon way back when but my ex-husband "lost" my tapes. Uh-huh. So I'm coming here getting my daily fix.

_Ghost Riders In the Sky_ is one of my all time favorite skits. :-)

You have no idea the joy I feel when I see these again. Thank you. If the show ever makes it to DVD I will buy the entire collection, probably two so I can have a backup.

  • Lol! This is sooo funny!!! I heard this before! And I always liked this from the video's I saw it from lol. Which was weird because I never knew what the band was who played it lol. "The little woman" LOL XD

  • I so miss this show and wish they'd put it on DVD!

  • I didn't recongnize Jon until he started singing. He looks great! I like the silliness. I watch Cash when I want serious.

  • After this I don't think the Ghost Riders will ever ride again. Over the top funny. I had forgotten how great Sha Na Na is.

For those who think its silly, go listen to Vaughn Monroe, Johnny Cash, Duane Eddy, all great versions, but when you need a laugh come on back.

  • I remember watching the show as a kid. Bowser was awesome. Is he still around? How about the rest of the group? Loved their ending song "Goodnight Sweetheart"

  • CadillacL, I saw a youtube vid with Jon (Bowzer) I don't know the link, but it has something to do with music. It was at a hearing of some kind and he looked much older and heavier than he does here. That wasn't a dig. He couldn't have gotten an skinnier.

  • CadillacL, I also saw a vid on Youtube of him singing with another group.

  • Jen...he leads a group called Bowzer & The Stingrays.He started there in 1990 .They're great & he's the same ol' Bowzer. :-)

  • Katzi, thank you! I would love to see them in person.

  • Bowser does a credible Vaughn Monroe, but the sillyness ruins it.

  • BOWZER RULES!

  • i bet bowser has a big sputts

  • I bet he does too.

  • This was supposed to be attached to gene. Why didn't it attach when I hit reply by gene's name?

  • well i like it the ending all cowboys and 1 indian

  • Wish they would have sung it straight without joking around.

  • Ghost Riders is one of my all time favorite songs. At first, I thougt the silliness would ruin the song, but instead it added a new dimension. I had to watch it again and forward it to my friends.

  • Wow, almost forgot about these guys. They had a great show!

  • i was 14 when my family said no to me going to woodstock, even though my older brother was 19 and most of his military friends as well, im still pissed at mcaurther my old man

  • Good thing, you might have taken that bad acid that was going around "it's poison".

  • being before my time, my family made me watch this, and I have spent 15 years trying to find it again

  • lol

  • Just think Bowser was at Woodstock, and still going strong. Ya gotta love that!

  • Bowzer wasnt at woodstock,he didnt join until

spring 1970.Alan Cooper was the first bass singer who perfromed with them at this event.

  • Bowser is a great baritone. What ever happened to him? I like to picture him performing in an Opera!!! That is a powerful voice! =Stefan=

  • Stefan...Bowzer left SNN in '83 and is now performing in a band called "Bowzer & The Stingrays". He's GREAT in there! (I've seen him in concert twice already & loved it!)
