The very opening is from the opening of the first Ultraman series. The sounds of Godzilla come from the opening of the Japanese version of Gojira (Godzila) as the credits roll. Of course the music that follows is part of Akira Ifukube's score from Gojira. The last part didn't seem to fit with the theme of it.
I have never seen this before. Does anyone have any information as to who worked on this. I know that the Daicon IV convention anime was created by the guys who would become GAINAX, but this was obviously in a different style, with super-deformed characters. When I look at them, it seems like perhaps Kenichi Sonoda worked on it. Could someone post the title of this so I can look it up?
The title is, simply, "Awake" (although the katakana doesn't match, reading "ao-ku"). As far as I know, this was only released to VHS paired up with "O-Man" (a considerably more graphic thrity-minute H-video) by Studio Gzzy (at the time AKA Studio Awake) back in the late '80s or early '90s.
Asari Yoshitoh ("Lucu Lucu," "Space Family Carlvinson") and Sonoda (and a host of others who have gone on to their own careers) worked on it.
I have a knack for noticing an artist's style, so it doesn't surprise me that Sonoda worked on this. The characters in a few of the scenes definitely look like his work.
it was very impressive

XD That's awesome! And the music from 2:28-2:45 was totally the main theme from The Dark Crystal! Freakin' sweet!

And oddly enough, it's followed by a bit of the theme from "The Final Countdown."

@ScreamingScallop
That would be the theme to The Dark Crystal.

@nekonemai
Yeah, yeah...and AFTER the music from The Dark Crystal, there's a brief bit of the theme from The Final Countdown, beginning at 2:45.
Just as I wrote.
