It is. This is the HTC Hero, also branded the T-Mobile G2 Touch as the successor to the T-Mobile G1 in the UK. Yes, there is also a newer device released as the T-Mobile G2 with a physical keyboard and everything, but the name is legit.

the texting is just like a winmo 6.1 and above (threaded txts) but the key difference is it is htc's own specific text application...it looks rather nice

Yes, shure. For example in Germany with Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile it´s possible. But you only have the possibility for using time-based tarifs. If it´s aslo in US or else, I don´t know.

The touch screen is responsive, it's just that the OS is a bit finicky about where you press sometimes.

500mb of data allowance means... u get 500mb of DATA anythign that uses data is counted,even emails, IM (for smartphones) videos, etc.

yea use wifi as much as u can since it shouldn't count towards your data allowance. but then again battery life is an issue.

well for me tmobile US. they do offer unlimited data. not really unlimited but has a 10gig data cap... its kinda hard to use up that 10 gigs per month tho

nope i dont have the g2 touch. i have the tmobile g1 for USA. but i rooted and hacked my phone and loaded up a  custom hero rom.

well for me, the data cap is no biggie since 10gig is way more than enough

500mb is easily enough for most people. I have the HTC Hero and i am regularly downloading from the market and use Facebook, Youtube and BBCiplayer. I have never been anywhere near my 500mb allowence.

well.. I guess that really depends on your carrier. What I can tell you, working for a carrier here in the United States, that any data useage will use some of that allownce. That would be the web, facebook, and everything else that requires data to be sent or received.

Yes, the phone loads the text / pictures first anyway so you can navigate before the flash elements are loaded. The phone is surprisingly quick. I know people mention the lag - but that only comes into play once you have lots of applications running. So its a choice, having live real time updates of your social life and surroundings or turning off a couple to get an extra .5 seconds screen refresh time or an extra 4 seconds on a web page.

No problems - I have only had mine since thursday and I am more than happy - I was not sure whether to go for the Hero or Iphone. I have used my friends Iphone and played with the hero in the shop.

I would say however - if you want video, music over other features go for the iphone. If you prefer a walking social hub realtime twitter, email, text, facebook the hero is better.

So, the 3GS CAN run apps in the background, and it's still much faster then the Hero.

The 3GS's processor is also faster with 600MHz, and the new ARM Cortex-A8 processor , and not the outdated crap 528MHz Qualcomm® MSM7200A processor that the Hero uses. 3GS also have a much more powerfull PowerVR SGX graphicscard.

Actually, the stock apps like "Mail", "iPod" and "Safari" can run in the background. We can't do it with 3rd-party-apps yet. But i hope Apple will get the finger out of the ass soon :)

But now, we're talking about what the devices CAN do. The iPhone can multitask (If jailbroken) and i guess the Hero can be faster after some ROM-updates and so on.

I'm not an "anti-android-dude", and i don't hate HTC, so don't you think i'm a fanboy of any kind :P Cheers

and when i saw the part while he was trying to take the picture indoors i was shocked with how bad is it, and not even having night mood.
