  • cool!! I especially like out on the ocean! you should take a listen to maid behind the bar as well!

  • Really cool. I'm just getting into Celtic guitar music, and it's a a wonderful world.

  • good stuff, cheers!

  • hey man this is awesome as, where abouts can i get the tab?

  • where can i find the tab?

  • thats very good

  • I like this. I know you're criticizing your playing, but I won't. It's great. And @ snapperjohn1000, not only does the D-28 NOT have binding on the fingerboard, but neither the D-28 nor D-35 could ever sound like shit! It will always be an audio issue...just say'n!!!

  • make a tutorial..i need to play that ha

  • Could be better, nice nonetheless :)

  • any chance of a tab existing anywhere

  • you are great.

  • great jig.. been playing for over 20 years ill never be this good......):

  • Awesome! love playin irish airs on acoustic, I'm gon post some of mine soon, hopefully youll swing by when I do! :)

  • I CAN PLAY SECOND SONG ON VIOLIN :) =D

  • Love the swing and lilt to this...cheers

  • There are always mistakes bro.... As a musician I always want things to sound cleaner, we are our own worst critics. I enjoyed it and feel that its getting to be a rare style here on the east coast, Cut yourself some slack and keep at it, as you are talented. And always ignore the negative comments from people who couldnt do it if their lives depended on it!

  • makes me wanna dance! :D

  • There are two things i love,

    Irish Whiskey, and Irish Jigs!

  • Bravo ! J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à jouer la 2ème avec toi sur mon tin whistle,

    5 ***** : Christian, de France

  • Lol they sure are riddled with errors, I tend to let my dad find the dots, he's already got loads. I think helikes to use abc music. Nice playing too.

  • Damn man, I'm at work, and I could not resist yellin "HEY HEY HEY HEY"

  • Tab someone?

  • Nice. Try to include an occasional chord sweep using the Bass Strings or perhaps try to switch octaves to a lower string to add a voice difference.

Good clean picking which will get better as you get more confidence. Strings are a bit too new and "bright" for the real feel but quite pleasant.

    thanks for sharing.

  • Fine job lad!! great tune!!

  • NICE!!!

  • Nice tune....Thumbs up !!

  • Thats really good quality for a compact camera the song is nice too!

  • ok,i understand now why the guitar did not have the full sonic effect, and tonal spectrum.personaly, and my opinion may not matter because sound quality is all in the ear of the listener, but i like to use my alvarez ay 20 ceder on walnut for celtic finger style,it is a very nice small body guitar .in standard tuneing for some things i like to use an old guild d 30 maple acoustic.have you ever played a martin d35 s slope shoulder d 35 12 frets to the neck?

  • nice playing, but the d28 sounds like shit

  • @snapperjohn1000 I'm none to happy with the sound myself. It was recorded with a compact camera. I intend to do some mandolin vids, and I'll use a better camera. Having said that, I heard it thru my g/f's hi-fi the other day and it was a lot better than thru the PC speaker.

    BTW, it's a D35.

  • hard to find flat picking jigs on here, thanks for adding it

  • Can you do a tutorial? Please please please! :)

  • No sooner had I clicked play, I started dancing round the room and down the hall.

  • mighty shhtuff

  • it's just begging for accompaniment :D

  • @avemnevoiesideiarba If it's begging for anything, it's for me to record it again without the mistakes.

  • amazing ! ! !

    Cheers buddy: )

  • im new to the irish jingle stuff. any recomendations on material to learn from? beginner and intermediate stuff that is? and thanks alote loved your performance.

  • That was really good, especially that it was played in standard tuning.

  • now thats was entertanment

  • @flatopguy It's dirty all right. Not error free by a long way, but I'll maybe put some better stuff up when I get the chance. I have plans to do some mandolin tunes...

  • What scales?

How can I improvise, or how to buildt such a Song???

  • @Johann759

    They're in D major and G major.

You don't improvise or build, you learn the tune then play it. Irish trad is a melodic musical form, not improvisation around chords like jazz.

  • Nice swing. Most irish tunes done on guitar here on youtube are all fancy fingerstyle up in the clouds and mystical, which completely renders them useless for what they were traditionally intended - to get people dancing. Well done.

  • i don't know much about guitars, just started learning; personally really like irish/celtic music; but question, whats it called at around 1:13 and 1:41 where it sounds like an quick arpeggio or were you just picking really fast and the camera didnt pick it up.

  • @izzzay i said arpeggio ~_~ i meant vibrato sorry, just waking up lol

  • @izzzay Sorry, didn't see you correction cos YouTube is crap. Hope my other answer makes sense anyway.

  • @izzzay its called a treble

  • @izzzay I'm just playing the tune. it's not an arpeggio really, the melody goes down to a D (open 4th string) at that point. Hope that answers the question.

  • @izzzay sounds like the rocky road to dublin.

  • I have been trying to get my picking clean like Doc Watson for the last 30 years, probably gonna take another 30 before I even get close. anyway, there is celtic tab and sound bites for flatpicking guitar on alltabs.com, really helped me and saved me a lot of time.

  • awesome picking keep it up i want to see more vids by you that was awesome, try trip to maubu ridge by john allan cameron thats a good one

  • cool

  • ceart go leor

  • lol nice

  • Love it -do more- any chance of you posting a lesson ?

  • Oh btw, that tuning is from the darkest to the lightest string to remove any confusion and frustation caused on my behalf with mistuning :p

  • Anybody reading the thread and wondering about the tuning, there is a special tuning commonly used in celtic, irish, scottish music alot its, D,A,D,G,A,D takes some getting used to though if you're used to the standard tuning would recomend getting tabs or notes to some tunes in that tuning to kick it off. I'm sure theres other ways to tune aswell though.

  • great job, nice clean picking!

  • Erin go Bragh =)

  • lovely thanks for posting

  • awesome

  • Your D35 sounds fine. It sure seems to have the "juice." What year is it? I've just started getting into jigs with a D28 but haven't gotten as far as you have.

  • Top stuff!, Is it possible you could re-record this slower, I only know two reels on guitar and If you would be so kind, i would be very grateful to expand my repertoir!

  • i think ive watched this everyday for a week, or so now, i really want to learn it. if anyone has tabs, that would be so nice. :)

  • wow beautiful!:) very nice

  • Cool. Inspiration for rock guitar hack who's suddenly found himself trying to jam with a Scottish jiggy outfit. I think I can learn to play this! Thanks for the demo.

  • very good

    sounded professionally played

    :)

  • Good tunes and good playing

    Really cool stuff!!

  • btw, you used ear or notes?

  • I learned these years ago, I don't really remember how I did it. I think in those days I would have learned from recordings, using sheet music to help me. Nowadays, I learn most things by ear.

  • what tunig are you in....whats the irish tuning lol sorry.

    Great songs.

  • Standard tuning, EADGBE.

  • The "irish" tuning is DADGAD typically, but obviously he said it was in standard.

  • @EZEEKEEL The standard "irish" tuning is DADGAD or Drop D (DADGBE)

  • I love Irish music, good work!

  • i really like that (kind of music)!! wow :)

  • sweet playing, great tunes :)

  • Really good !

  • Very nice : )

  • Sounds great but would be even better in DADGAD.

  • Really? Why?

  • Yes, I would like to know why also.

  • I assume that he wants to hear chunkier lows. No accounting for taste.

  • At last I know that "Girls of Banbridge" is the name of that one! Thank you... Sounds good going into Out On the Ocean.

For future tune-naming, I think I'll have to bite the bullet and learn the ABC note syntax, so that I can use TheSession's advanced search form.

  • what's the name of this song and do you have tab for it?

  • Sorry, I don't use tabs - see the description of my vid for more info.

  • wow that was great. I'm currently learning to play guitar do you know some easy irish songs

  • Nice picking on one of the cannons of the guitar world.

  • Great, had me foot stomping. Makes me want to pick my guitar up.

  • Hey !!

do you use the normal EBGDAE tuning or something diferent ???

    thanks !!!!

  • That's right, just standard tuning.

  • Well done!

  • very very nice.........wish you would give a lesson on this.

  • awsome

  • What year is your D-35 it's a beauty!!

  • It's a 1980. It was a bit the worse for wear but I got the neck reset and some other work done, now it's fine.

  • Excellent; are you in standard tuning?

  • Yes, standard EADGBE.

  • Iontach maith ar fad! Tá sé agat go maith!

  • to all you looking for tabs

get the tune in your head

    learn to play the scale

    and than play the tune

  • So true.

  • I'm sorry, but some of us don't have time to try and do this method, although it is the better way to do it. tabs are just so convienent. I would love to learn to play by ear, though

  • hi for you guys looking for tabs

    1 down load the tune

2 play it over and over again

    3 pick up your guitar

4 lear to play the sale in the key which thee is played really good

and just play the tune rem slow at first

hey its called playing it by ear the way all irish trad players do it

    5

  • Hey, any chance i can get the tab to that?

  • Apologies to those of you asking questions that I have been slow to answer - due to a YouTube bug I have been unable to post comments here myself!

  • Man, I want to get into this Irish thing. Do you have the tabs for it?

  • I've not been able to locate the tab for Out On The Ocean. I don't suppose you could help me out? It sounds so great and I wish I could be able to learn it :P

    Great playing!

  • if theres anyway i can get tabs for that i would greatly appreciate it..

  • Thanks that was really good. I like the way the pieces roll into each other. I will work on these pieces.

  • Savage playing there! Just started guitar thats the kinda tunes im lookin ta play!

  • Nicely done.

  • Great stuff! Could you tell me the name of those tunes?

  • The first one is The Girls of Banbridge, which I think I learned from a live tape of De Dannan years ago. The second is Out on the Ocean, and is a very common tune in Irish sessions.

  • Thanks for the titles of those tunes. I flatpick as well. What country are you in?

  • I'm in the UK, but I travel quite regularly to Ireland for the music sessions. I usually play mandolin in sessions.
