It's not the rejection that bothers me; it's the long wait to receive them when a piece could be sent out somewhere else. My advice is to give a prospective publisher eight weeks to respond one way or another, and then send the story/novel/article to other publishers on a first come first served basis. Publishers aren't gods and they need writers if they are going to make any money. Life's a bitch!
