its obviously an incorporeal Patronus; it acts more like a broad ranged shield than an active animal thing. Given the stress of the situation, only forming an incorporeal patronus isn't that far fetched.

I was deeply disappointed by this scene. Given the the talent and resources available, you'd have thought a fantastical , glowing white stag patronus would have been depicted: at first rearing up at Harry's invocation, snorting steam in the cold, noble antlers threatening, and then routing the dementors as if some heraldic beast. But no - we get a damp squib. Terrible :(

There is a brilliant chapter called "Delivery and Despair: Christian Keys to Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" in the book Looking for God in Harry Potter by John Granger that I seriously recommend before anyone watches this movie again. In fact, the entire book opens up an entirely different way of reading the spiritual depth of the Potter narrative, linking it up to the grand tradition of CS Lewis and Tolkien. A must read for any Potter fans, Christian or not.
