This was undoubtedly a great game at the time, since the difficulty in games was at its peak. And it can still be used for relaxation whenever you are being frustrated by hard games. It is beautiful, relaxing, colorful, well-designed, and not as hard as many think it is. I found the second helicopter mission to be easier than the first.
I love this game too. Definitely an All-time Top 10 in my Super Nintendo library. Not to mention that my Godfather also gave me the money to buy this game several years ago.
To honour him I think, would be to do my best in this excellent game conceived by the great talented people at Nintendo, or at the very least, beat it.
Shirley (The second instructor) Used to scare the piss out of me as a child, when you get a perfect 100 on one of her events he eyes become straight lines.
This scene also leads me to believe that this "Flight club" must be a branch of the Navy or something, or at least some extension of the Military. I mean, not only does it have an armed to the teeth Apache Helicopter, but also a giant ship to launch it from? Plus, those uniforms. .
Even if the Flight Club is an extension of the Navy it is not a bad thing though, as they have the necessary top-notch defense and experience (including supervision) to provide for all aspiring students undertaking what would be very dangerous airborne activities.
Koji Kondo didn't compose the music, though; it was Soyo Oka
many people often make this mistake because of the credits showing Koji Kondo as the music supervisor or something similar, but in actuality, he only provided guidance for soyo
Sure, but the guide deserves credit too. But probably in the Japanese Way the section leaders get the credit first and foremost, whereas the subordinates often don't matter too much.
The last of your flight instructors (the mustachioed guy) at the ending scene and the fortress island levels looks a lot like Kanbei from Advanced Wars 1.
Yeah cool ending. I felt accomplished when I first beat that game. Pilotwings is a classic, and one of the most underrated games ever, along with Pilotwings 64.
This game is good, but man, it IS frustrating! Even if you "complete" a mission, you can sometimes hear the emotional failing theme if you didn't get enough points or if you goof it all up. It is HARD to complete Big Al's area on the second loop 'cause you must score TONS of points in order to pass!
Weird. For some reason the Ending theme sounds rather similar to the ending theme of Vegas Stakes. And the "The End" screen reminds me a lot of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Man. I only remember playing this game a few times. I could only get past the first stage. I always BSed the bonus stage. And then I always lost on the second stage. Other than that, good job.
Never beat the last mission, damn! God, those flying missions were so nasty...you had like zero maneuverability and if you were any less than perfect, it was a crapshoot whether they'd hit you or not when you were retreating.
I personally never got that far (last time I played it was over 10 years ago). Did I ever mention about the times when my brothers and I would get a kick out of this game by messing up on purpose?
And I actually cocked up when I tried on the Rocket Belt event and plunged into the sea just moments after taking off a moving platform, I couldn't forget how hard my cousin laughed when he saw it (and he was the cause of the distraction in the first place, damn!)
one of my favorite SNES endings, right behind Super Metroid for its Crowning Moments of Awesome

90s games are pretty hard, but 80s games are generally even harder.

Yet this game is being sidelined by the mainstream. Looks like gamers are pretty stupid after all.

This is a fun game. It is also a bit hard, but still attainable.
Thanks for the compliment. If it's possible I may put up a video of myself beating the second helicopter rescue mission.

That would be awesome. I can't remember what the second stage was like anyways.
