Anyway, using a pick makes a distinct sound if the bass is actually audible, but a lower deeper more abrupt bass note is better than the click of the pick on the string.

Well I have to say one thing about the bassist. Anyone who thinks hes being odd or hates him, knows nothing about feeling music. I bet he's enjoy it a hell of a lot more than the other two guys. You don't make it anywhere if your band is full of a bunch of self conscious people just sitting there. You need some spirit in what you play. Look at someone like Stevie Ray Vaughan or Angus Young. How about Iron Maiden, Slayer, Anthrax, all badass, and they all move a ton. Just good showmanship.
