Well, now I know that the lithium batteries will adapt to older NiCad powered drills. I like my older "not-made-in-China 14.4V" drill with the 1/2 inch steel Jacobs chuck.
nicad's may not hold a charge or last longer than lithium but the nicads put out more power than the lithium if you dont believe me try it i have the new porter cable tools with both lithium and nicads when it comes to putting out power the nicads are better than lithium one of the drills came with lithium batteries one 1.3 amp and the other 2.6 amp and my hammer drill came with 1.5 amp nicads when i drill lighter screws the lithium are better but lag screws the nicads are better they give more
milwaukee 18 volt 1/2 inch impact leaves it snap-on equivilent in the shade, i've used both, i have 2 milwaukee impacts and wouldnt touch a snap-on even though i use all snap on hand tools.
I have sets of the Vs and several sets of the M stuff and Im asking the same thing Elvis I have to keep V and M chargers both running on my jobsite And Kahvac I think thats a bunch of Crap All my drills and rotery hammers are cordless 18s and 12s they get ran 8 hours a day every one and havent had one in for repair had one issue with a bad pack thats it not a better corless tool out there even like them better then my Hilti stuff
Consumer Reports did a testing of the monster 28Volt Milwaukee beast and it is too.
Unfortunately the people at CR burnt up the drill actually they burnt the wire off one of the brushes I believe. I'm an electrician and sometimes were rough on our tools we need heavy duty tools and expect to pay a high price for them. If they break down on a job what difference is the price now ? BTW
the old Lok-Tor drills were heavy duty never burnt one up yet but man are they heavy !
Wow ! I didn't know the batteries are interchangeable. I have (4) 14 and 18 volt Milwaukee Lok-Tor cordless drills all of which are Ni-Cad and recently one Makita 18Volt Lithium Ion combo-drill set with impact driver. Actually the Makita was given to me by my company and I'm a Milwaukee man and didn't want it. But the Makita is very well made and the run time and torque are incredible. I might buy one of the 18 or higher voltage Lithium drills from Milwaukee, as long as its a
Lithium has been around for years and is being constantly refined. While most LiIon batteries are made for less demanding devices and have lower output than nickel, new technology (Milwaukee V-series and Makita LX) is capable of sustaining current draw levels comparable to nickel-based cells.
Compared to nickel-based cells, lithium cells are lighter, last longer per charge, have a longer lifetime, less power fade over a charge, and do not develop 'memory' (vs NiCD).

the Milwakee impacts are in a class by themselves, no one can touch the 450lbs of the m18 impact. that's 125lbs more then my v28.

So why did they come out with the M18 battery that is NOT compatible with the V18 tools ?
elvisjonesus 2 years ago
@elvisjonesus
The M18 is the latest technology and is replacing the V series.

Lithium sucks! More power than NiCD? You must be kidding! New technology which isn't refined yet. Stick to NiCD or NiMH...
