@doctorw2 I'm glad they cancelled it, it wouldn't have become a cult classic ortherwise. In England they showed the series midweek about 11.00pm just once a week and it was never advertised, and never repeated. I stumbled accross it by accident, it was a real gem of a discovery for the few who found it and for those 'Hammer Horror' fans like me who apreciated it .
@doctorw2 Gotta admire your bottle for dressing like Kolchak. I might change my tribly for a boater now and get a baggy suit to go with it (tribies/boaters and jeans/trainers don't go together). I'm just curious, did people recognise you as dressing like Kolchak because in the UK hardly anybody knows who the Kolchak character is, so you would get away with appearing slightly eccentric without looking like you are going to a fancy dress party dressed as a TV character.
The best suspense series on TV at the time. The music the perfect light it all worked. Everytime you watched you knew he was heading for trouble but he had to go to write the story.
....I'm a jazz buff myself, and I wish I'd know who composed this great arrangement, for it's obviously a jazz theme.....anybody remember the network?...maybe by knowing the band that recorded it, I could research who composed and arranged this theme...
@OverseasCat From what I can find online it was composed by Gilbert Mellé or Gilbert John Mellé (BMI). Not sure if that's accurate or not, but some people have credited him with the theme.
@OverseasCat Another source I found said one of the themes, "Night Stalker" (for the pilot/movie) was composed by Robert William Cobert (ASCAP/BMI). Mellé is credited for "Theme from the Night Stalker", which may be this theme from the TV series (rather than the first two TV movies).
i really loved this series shame they cancelled it, i dressed like kolchak hat and everything.

Yeah, it was so different from everything else around at that time. So very original.
