This is a neat rendition and no disrespect to them, but it really has zero emotional investment to it. It's like a pretty china doily tea set. Herman's Hermits and The Carpenters' versions had some actual emotion behind it.
What is funny about this clip and the Georgy Girl Clip is how the producers used costumes and props to hide the pregnancies of the sisters. In this one, it looks like Janet and Peggy. In the Georgy Girl clip, it may be Kathy, but definitely Peggy (who by the way was once accused of "always being pregnant).
my parents grew up knowing them and their brother pretty well and had seen a few of them preform a few years ago but never had taken the time to look at what they did so long ago, huh, this is a trip...
When did Janet have her first baby? I thought it was May 1967 (I could be wrong). If so, is this show only a day or 2 before she gave birth, or was it almost immediately after having her baby?
I love this song! The Lennons were so pretty and talented. This is a great version of this song compared to Herman's Hermits and the Carpenters. I love the styles of the sixties. People dressed nicer a were clean cut. Lawrence Welk was the best show on TV. ABC sucks for canceling it. Thank you PBS for bringing him back on Saturday night. TV sucks today.
alll very christian and church like very clean cut but thats ok everything dont av to be off the scale and obscene--- i personally like trippy drug music hard rock pycadelic 60s stuff but this tune somehow jus does it for me reminds of my mum
It isn't a dream, it's the motherfucking lennon sisters, and as demure as people think they are, and as a pretty hardcore fan of 90s music and feminine music of any time period,I think they are TOP NOTCH!
One great thing about the Lennon Sisters- they really did put family first. Dianne was better than many of the other stars in the early days, like Sandra Dee, but instead of trying to leave the group for films she retired to be a wife and mother. Just watch some of those movies from the late fifties and early sixties, usually the female star is a step or two below Dianne in talent.
You are so right there. They all could have gone on to bigger and better things, but chose to stick together ! Shobiz was not their first priority !!!! Family,God and then showbiz in that order !
They deserved much more than the minimum wage Welk paid them. The best time for the Welk show was when you had all four together, Lynn Anderson, and Andra Willis.
yer know i cant get this tune outa my head, must av played it here on youtube about 20 or so times, enhances the effects of my weed.....proper good honest clean tune....kicks the ass off some of the so called music of today
Fall is here. It's dark after supper, so it's time to stay inside with Grandma and watch the LW show... Memories... I've listened to this version so much, I forgot what the original sounds like!
God have we lost our innocence. Can you imagine anything this wholesome and corny on TV today? This is def too hoky, but makes you long for entertainment that isn't about sex or violence.
Take a look at the Georgy Girl clip where they are 'strategically" standing behind a fence to hide their preganancies. Janet was about 8 months pregnant at that point. And poor JoAnn Castle had to hide behind her piano when she was expecting her son. Things have changed a lot since 1967 - 68,
I seem to recall another Lawrence Welk version of this same song, but featured three out of the four Lennon Sisters. Does this ring a bell with anyone else?
Bert Kaempfert also had an instrumental version of this song, which was played on two local radio stations in early 1970s. I wish I could find it on CD.
hahahahaha. I can't help liking this stuff, and I guess I should be defending the Sisters, here--but your comments are hilarious. Each one funnier than the last.

Androids don't have names, just numbers, i.e., LS-1, LS-2, LS-3, etc.
The LW Show was basically the Mickey Mouse Club for brain-dead "adults." Just ask "Bobby."

teft 3 years ago
I think they are dressed as "nannys"
boatracer39 3 years ago 11
They are dressed like nanny's because Peggy and Janet are both expecting. Their costumes were designed to hide this fact.
baldwin67 3 years ago 3
Why would that need to be hidden? If they are holding "babies" then where did those babies come from?
Amazing how far we have come and yet we Americans are still so dang freaked out by how we procreate.
