Just cause the child is disruptive and the boys family is use to it and arent disrupted by it, doesnt mean everyone else should have. I dont agree with churchs on many things but this is ridiculous. If the kid is disrupting the whole church the they shouldn't take him.maybe have a private mass ..and before you bash me...I have a sixteen year old autistic son ...and I wouldnt go if he was a disruption to the people

I'll kick my pastor's ass if he banns an autistic kid from Pilgrim Congregation. I'll cuss my frickin' head off to him and then beat off his limbs. Just 'cause they're autistic, doesn't mean they can't love God and Jesus.

CALL ME HORRIBLE BUT DAMN THIS MAKES ME MAD. " HES AUTISTIC HE DESEVERS RIGHTS" BITCH(SORRY) &PPL DESEVER NOT TO BE SPIT ON OR HIT!
My 4 yr old charming, handsome son has autism & my solution was to attend church while he is in school. Thankfully, my church has Mass daily @ 9am & I pick any day of the week to go, less people & more parking spaces anyway. The times that I've brought him to church I've stayed in the "crying room", they call it. But, its so small & always crowded w/ typical kids that jump & cry & roll on the floor & whine. When he starts to fidget, I bring him outside & can hear what's going on via speakers...
@mrv963 placed outside. He is not physical with anyone at all BUT I do spend the time running after him trying to restrain him in 1 place, not fun! So, my solution was to just attend at a different time & during Summer, use Respite Care. However, I am not sure if that state she is in offers that. Even if he doesn't go to church, we pray with him before bed & read him the Children's Bible. The church environment is just too restraining for him.
*Sighs*..........I'm not going to defend the kid's behavior, but he DOES have atuism. Real autistic kids can't help acting the way they do.{I have ADD}
so I have clinical depression what happens if I stand up in front of the church during church with a knife to my throat?? I can't stand church(i'm atheist) and I can't stand people who can't control their children. But expect everyone else to sit through pissing, yelling, and running around the church like a maniac.
And I know someone who lives up there and this is PART of what he was doing in a public place.
I personally am mad with this. He can't elp his actions for the fact he can't control himself. He is no different from that and I would really appreciate it if people would think about how autistic people are no different from us. They have feelings, They have a heart, and they have dreams and goals they wish to accomplish. So please take a minute to think about this.
The church has a good case, they do not want the public in the church to be attacked by a random outburst of violence. The church is a quiet place for worship not a care centre for Autism. If he has random and violent outbursts then leave him at home and pray at home. If he is disruptive then he obviously is not mentally stable to cope with such a quiet and peaceful building. I do not hate Autism i have Asperges Syndrome.
Well, if "gawd" is so bothered by this type of thing than why hasn't He relieved the poor boy of his symptoms himself (or at the very least, passified him with love vibrations)?
@apossumsbestfriend...i think your suggestion was right...there must be ushered person take care for special children accompanied by the parent inside the church...if not,the worship will become destructable and the new comers of the church will not come anymore in that church..its all about how the church manage this situation..because they are also the member in that church..isnt?
Why does his mum force him to go to church? Maybe, in his mind, he does not want to go,. maybe he does not understand church. I don't understand church, so I don't go, I watch Veggie Tales instead and read my story bible, it makes more sense to me.
What kind of church is that anyway? Shouldn't the whole congregation be praying for the kid's severe condition to improve or go away all together instead of taking out a court order? Yet another example of how screwed up society can get. A church is the last place people should be rejected for something beyond their control. How about figuring out where to place him in the church during the service where he'll cause the least disruption and simply pray for the person for crying out loud.
dirty catholics, they disgust me. Kicking that poor kid out because he has a disease... Join a non-denominational church and most likely they will not kick you out
I am absolutely disgusted about all of the comments people are making about this kid. It's not his fault he has autism, he was born like that. These people need to find something else to do besides making derogatory comments about people with disabilities.
As a mother of a severely autistic boy (vidoes under kgaccount and cdfoakley) I am amused by Norby....this poor young man spends his time verbally assaulting autistic and disabled persons...as for video....I bring my son to church, but if he starts screaming... I re-direct him OUTSIDE...as to respect other people's right to worship in peace...I understand the mom wanting her son included, but when he urinates or hits people, it's time to step outside for a re-direction...
What no one is realizing is that Autism is covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. The church is supposed to make reasonable accomodations, according the family however, the church is not making those reasonable accomodations. The family can, legally, sue the church for failure for following ADA Regulations. If anyone needs to go to hell, it is the parrish leaders and the others of the parrish that are not accepting of all of God's children.
The boy has severe autism. If he is violent, and in danger of people at the Church, there is nothing wrong or unGodly with them not allowing him to attend Church.
He didn't get kicked out of Church because he has autism, he got kicked out of Church because his behavior was disturbing and dangerous to others.
You are disconnecting autism with behavior. The two are linked. Autism isn't the flu. It is a BEHAVIORAL disorder. I have two children with autism and am in seminary studying to become a pastor. Although I am not in the Roman Catholic Church - no one wants my kids in church either, and they are always turned away from Christian Schools. Apparently, the poor and unwanted are no longer the treasure of the Church....hypocrisy in the name of Christ.
Because your children are the only ones with autism? No. Autism is not a behavioral disorder-- it is a neurological disorder. Get your facts straight please.
How many kids with autism do you have? How many churches have your autistic kids been kicked out of? How many parochial schools have your kids been denied entry into? Of course it is a "neurological disorder", but how does this particular "neurological disorder" MANIFEST itself? Through BEHAVIOR. Get your facts straight . I live in the world of reality. You live in a world of theory and correct nomenclature - becuase thats whats really important, right? Get a heart please.
"Autism is one of the mental, emotional, and BEHAVIORAL DISORDERS that appears in early childhood" - Mental Health America. But of course, you much wiser than the NMHA. "Get your facts straight please."
Not all autistic kids are going to get kicked out of Church is what I'm saying. The boy in the video's behavior was particularly violent. He was denied church because of his behavior, not because of his autism. Every autistic behaves differently. Most behavioral issues are the result of sensory problems or lack of impulse control. And yes, I have family members with autism. Also, if you're seriously studying to be a pastor I would start practicing to be a bit more kind.
"Also, if you're seriously studying to be a pastor I would start practicing to be a bit more kind" If you are serioulsy a Christian, I would start practicing more charity. Take your own counsel before offering it.
you know, its not adams fault. im catholic, and my little brother has autism. the priest at my church smiles. and its just a weirdo priest. we should give the priest grief, if anyone.
I am a minister and this IS NOT RIGHT to do to this family. I do not condone this action and I aplogize to the family that a so called god loving man would do this.
I saw the whole story and from what I understand it was the parents who refused a section where they can sit alone with their son, and also a whole cry room was offered to them and they refused this. He is violent, and untill they can help him control that they have to understand no parent wants their children injured. It hurts, regardless of who inflicts the pain.
My husband is a Pastor,we have a child who is living w/Autism.Everyone is understanding & accepting of him.Yes, he does hit other kids, hums & stems but no one is shocked or offended by it. We do however intervene if he hits another child & remove him 2 the childrens room if he is getting out of hand. I dont think it was appropriate for the church in the case in question 2 kick them out however the family of the child above should of intervened & helped control their child. Safety's always first
Jeannieprescott has the news coverage with more explanation on the church's side. and after having watched that one, I now see more clearly the side of the church. They have tried to work the family. The family hasnt cared about anyone else. I dont blame the church. Plus they are still trying to work things out with the family. Other people are being affected by the actions of the boy.
well, yes but its not like this kid has any damn clue that hes doing anything wrong. ANYONE HERE WHO IS BLAMING THE KID DOES NOT UNDERSTAND AUTISM. i have studied it for ten years. autism isn't the luxury of downs. all autistic kids are completely different. obviously, this kid has it severely, and so does my brother. it took my brother 6 years to be able to connect words with foor. you cant talk to him and expect him to understand.
This is a no-brainer! Any person who disturbs the peace can be arrested; and to have this kid in church (?). How can you get more disturbing than letting anyone, autistic or not, be allowed to attend church who exhibits this kind of behavior. I am curious if the paster had offered to see the family at their home, I would be extremely surprised if the paster had not given this option. To mrkymk - you certainly are not a Christian just reading your remarks gives you away; you appear to not get it!
I love my son more than anything... and he can be aggressive at times... I couldn't allow him to do things like that in church, to other people, or to himself. I would hope that the pastor would minister to the family in a different setting. I don't think it fair that the other people there to worship have to go to church in fear of being hurt. No-one, regardless of their situation, has the right to hurt another.
I have seen some teens and pe-teens with that type of severe autism. I could still hear him in the background humming like a cow as his mother speaks to the camera.
if indeed the kid cannot be mainstreamed in any meaningful way, did the church offer to minister to the child and the family in another setting? maybe this is going to court because both sides are acting obstinately? i'm no defender of organized religion, but the tone of this report is troubling and biased.
There isn't much of a gray area here. He pissed on people?? He hit other children!! He spits on people!! For crying out loud, what about the rights of OTHER people. This lady doesn't give a crap about other people, she apparently believes her family is the only one that matters.
@NODAK1979 If she only cared about her family, then all the other kids would be in trouble too right, well I know those kids and they say that the Church cooked this up. They are in no danger, neither is anyone else. You are probably someone from that church who conspired to cook up the false incidents.
@NODAK1979 you are so cold !! she has lived caring 24/7 for 13 years of his life and to take him to church is so bad !! they do restrain him !! he's not getting away with these things !! do you even know anything about autistic children ?? he doesn't understand the world and is constanly learning !!
i can see where both sides are coming from yes he is disruptive but he is also a person who has rights to go to church and by calling religous leaders idiots u just proved yourself to be the true idiot a common solution needs to be found but it is not black and white both sides have valid points
yes all people have the right to have an opinion but mrkymk u have just lost yours
Are you even paying attention to what is happening? They are not trying to keep him out because of discrimination. Just because you have worked with some autistic people does not mean that none of them can ever be violent. This is an extreme case, obviously. He has hit people in Mass - he is not able to control his behavior, and apparently neither can his family.
This proves once again religious leaders are idiots I work with autistic kids and they are not dangerous they are just different the religious do not like anyone who is different look it was the blacks then the gays now the church has a new group to pick on, the mentally retarded and people with autism nice going catholic church you once again have shamed your bigoted institution we all cannot wait to see what the pope has to say about this one
He wasn't kicked out of church because he had autism. The news release from the church said that he was kicked out because he was violent and dangerous and the family would not even try to sit in the cry room or mediate or anything!
I've heard of people being banished to Hell because they committed bad sins, and I've heard of people being sent to Hell because they didn't accept God as their saviour, but never in my whole life have I heard of someone being kicked out of church because they had autism!
Does that kid like french fried pertaters?

@flynavy16
So let 6'7 autistic beasts run around and assault people? Don't blame the kid sure, but why should we have to put up with his bullshit?

@Cakerolled how dare u call him a beast. My son is autistic and while it can pose problems autistic children are not animals.Assclown dipshit!

Your son should be caged with the monkeys.

To mrkymk - you certainly are not a Christian just reading your remarks gives you away; you appear to not get it!

ever read the third commandment?
it would be true that the parents would be sinning. and hes not disturbing peace. you are.

Oh the Irony.
The more vile form of abuse is to take children under 18 IN to the church to begin with.

Sorry if he pissed on me spit on me and or hit me. Parents would be in court, these are acts against the law. The parents are the retards...
mastior 3 years ago 2
if indeed the kid cannot be mainstreamed in any meaningful way, did the church offer to minister to the child and the family in another setting? maybe this is going to court because both sides are acting obstinately? i'm no defender of organized religion, but the tone of this report is troubling and biased.

There isn't much of a gray area here. He pissed on people?? He hit other children!! He spits on people!! For crying out loud, what about the rights of OTHER people. This lady doesn't give a crap about other people, she apparently believes her family is the only one that matters.
NODAK1979 3 years ago 24
@NODAK1979 If she only cared about her family, then all the other kids would be in trouble too right, well I know those kids and they say that the Church cooked this up. They are in no danger, neither is anyone else. You are probably someone from that church who conspired to cook up the false incidents.
101jir 1 year ago
@NODAK1979 you are so cold !! she has lived caring 24/7 for 13 years of his life and to take him to church is so bad !! they do restrain him !! he's not getting away with these things !! do you even know anything about autistic children ?? he doesn't understand the world and is constanly learning !!

i can see where both sides are coming from yes he is disruptive but he is also a person who has rights to go to church and by calling religous leaders idiots u just proved yourself to be the true idiot a common solution needs to be found but it is not black and white both sides have valid points
yes all people have the right to have an opinion but mrkymk u have just lost yours
shaunAlexanderr37 3 years ago
Are you even paying attention to what is happening? They are not trying to keep him out because of discrimination. Just because you have worked with some autistic people does not mean that none of them can ever be violent. This is an extreme case, obviously. He has hit people in Mass - he is not able to control his behavior, and apparently neither can his family.
valentine0311 3 years ago
This proves once again religious leaders are idiots I work with autistic kids and they are not dangerous they are just different the religious do not like anyone who is different look it was the blacks then the gays now the church has a new group to pick on, the mentally retarded and people with autism nice going catholic church you once again have shamed your bigoted institution we all cannot wait to see what the pope has to say about this one
mrkymk 3 years ago
He wasn't kicked out of church because he had autism. The news release from the church said that he was kicked out because he was violent and dangerous and the family would not even try to sit in the cry room or mediate or anything!
valentine0311 3 years ago 3
I've heard of people being banished to Hell because they committed bad sins, and I've heard of people being sent to Hell because they didn't accept God as their saviour, but never in my whole life have I heard of someone being kicked out of church because they had autism!
