Also the m249 has an upward facing grip near where the stock meets the firing mechanism for easier transport. A few quick google searches will prove this. Plus the m249 was released in 1984, the same year this movie was filmed. Also by the bullet casings, you can tell it's 7.62 ammo. The m249 uses 5.56 ammo.

@JRoqueProductions I'm not hating or anything but the m249 saw was developed in 1984 nine years AFTER the Vietnam War ended. This movie is based on the Vietnam War. You can even tell this is not an M249 SAW because the SAW is more compact and the m60 is larger and the front sight and just the whole weapon is quite noticeable. Also the m249 would have a much faster rate of fire and i'm talking a drastic difference in fire rate M60=600RPM while m249=100RPM that's a 400RPM difference.
