After #9 repair I have finally obtained a new PS3......my opinion...SONY knew there was a defect...they did not roll out a "slim" PS2 till after the lifecycle was almost dead and the PS3 was very well on it's way to being a reality...now the PS3..just 3 yrs into it's life cycle...they planned and had a PS3 slim released somewhere between the 4-5 year.....they eliminated backwards capability first, then two USB ports...the design was clearly flawed just like with the 360....

@HanifProductionz yeah, first turn the switch on the back off. disconnect hdmi/redwhiteyellow etc, disconnect lan, than turn on switch DO NOT TOUCH THE ON/OFF BUTTON ON THE FRONT, instead touch the eject button when the red light continues to light, no flash. the ps3 will eject the disk and than cool very hard. .. good luck (i have the same problem, only i ejected the disk)

i had this with my 60g but i put it in the playstation box upside down so the vents faced me then let a hairdryer blow on full power around the all the vents for 15 mins it got real hot then i took it out the box and let it cool for 45 mins switched it back on and it worked fine ( something to do with the solder they use. not led based and cracks easy causing the yellow light. when it cools it seals the cracks and saved me £200 on a new ps3

No, games that are on both consoles are usually better on the Xbox 360 due to the PS3's limited RAM (256 MB? Please Sony, wtf?). So third-party games are almost always better on the Xbox 360 (better textures and the like).

But the PS3's exclusive games are much better looking than any Xbox 360 game to date. Example would be MGS4. It CAN NOT be put on the 360 :P

Developing games on the PS3's Cell Processor is more difficult to do. Hence why most multiplatform games look better on the Xbox 360. The way to develop games with the Cell Processor is harder than the Xbox 360's processor (whatever it has). That's why it's expensive too :/

But Uncharted 2 got it right and beat every game's graphics out there :D

The light would only trigger if the system is kept in very very close quarters with no breathing room, and it over heats. Also, if you dont keep it clean, that can cause overheating too. It also doesnt hurt to back up everything on your hard drive on to an external one incase something were to happen.

Don't send it to any repair shop. Send it to a Sony store and see what they can do there. If it's more than $150, then you know what to do. If it's less, fix it there. And don't buy a brand new system. That would cost you $300 at the least. And especially don't buy a used system off E-bay.

its not a HDD problem. the ps3 somehow stores its operating system internally on the RAM, for the sole purpose of being able to switch HDD's freely. if the PS3 boots up and the HDD is corrupted or not plugged in the OS will boot and display an error message normally Hard drive not found. whats happening to the ps3 in this video and unfortunately mine is the PS3 is showing a yellow light before booting up or hardly even turning on. all that happens is the fans run then the system crashes, cont...

yea, in warranty and it's free...standard warranty is 1 year just buying it from a store, extended warranty is 2-3 years. And if it breaks and you get it fixed the warranty for that is 3 months. If it breaks out-of-warranty it is $150 for a refurbed edition.

This just happend to my original 60gig PS3 last night, it's now flashing green, yellow then red and turning off, i've used it a lot since i got it when they first came out but i bought two new things recently and i have a feeling one of them killed it, either the LED Pelican controller & or Sacred2 both are suspect due to heavy graphic use and or power consumption, the real problem is all the new PS3 don't have SD Pro memory slots or PS2 compatibilty so that sux and all game saves are lost :(

Yes all the PS3's will play PS1 & PS2 games bought through the Playstation store but only the original 60GigHD PS3 would read and play the PS1/2 game discs from CD.

i just became a victim of this problem....they sent me a refurbished one which i DIDN'T WANT...all my game saves were pretty much ruined cuz they only work right on the PS3 they were created. luckily i had just backed up the Hard Disk so I could upgrade to a 320 gig...that's the only thing that saved some of my game saves. it's 150 bucks to send the thing in...they didn't even work on it or tell me what was wrong! i'm assuming it overheated cuz the AC went out at my house for a little while.

yeah..i at least wanted to know what caused it. i had a 60 gig with the emotion engine by the way. they replaced it with the same kind at least...but i really wanted my original PS3 back so my backed up saves would work. on the refurbished one, most of the saves still worked, but all my PS2 saves were lost and most of the games with online saves (like street fighter 4, killzone 2, tekken 5) didn't restore. call of duty 4 restored fine at least.

3. keep it off the floor

4. when you see it flashing while playing turn it off
