Thing that always gets me in the end there, is that the girl could have been saved if she'd have just stuck with the indians a bit longer, but it was not meant to be.
@mickel1470 Like wise with you in sounding stupid. If you consider standing there and getting whacked after many times "sweet" then you have poor taste in fight scene. Stop kissing the director ass, there wasn't anything "sweet" about this fight scene. If anything it's one of the most boring and pathetic so called fight scene in film history. And just because you do not agree does not give you the right to call me an idiot, you pathetic little asshole.
What I really love about this scene is that Magua has been such a tough fighter through the whole movie that he seems invincible. Then Chingachgook kills him like he's swatting a fly. From the look on Magua's face even he can't believe it.
When I first saw this movie, and I was very young, I had started watching the movie right in the middle of it. The first person I saw was Hawkeye, and I thought I was watching Braveheart.
Best ever! No long drawn out ridiculous fight, some stupid wanna be motivational speech to get someone "pumped"! not too many scenes that you can watch for 6 minutes and feel every emotion without A WORD BEING SAID!!! Amazing!
The final scene was one of the greatest moment in film history, breathtaking, stunning, touching acting with the beautiful scenery of Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carlina. Jodhi May as Alice was beyond words and later became one of the best actress in UK. Love her.
@ben4056 Yes Yes. It WAS his scene. Until right about 5:11. And regarding his mercy lets not forget that he wants to take her to the Hurons of the Lakes to see if the elders there will give him leave to kill her. and yes come night fall his body WILL be ICE.
Although this is one of my favorite movies, I really hate to watch this part with my dad,...not because he'll say something I wont Like...But because a father Should Never see a son Die
I have to admit, when I watched this today in American History at my college, I about cried during this scene. I have seen this movie before but it has been a while since I seen this last. So much tragedy occurs during this scene you can't help to feel sorry for everyone in this. No one wins in the end, it's just that some of the characters survived, all of them lose something.
But, I have to admit hearing it in full surround sound was badass. The action and the music is 10 times as epic.
Two things you should never do after carving a guy up and throwing him off a cliff: 1. don't let his sex slave girlfriend walk up to that same cliff and 2: don't engage in personal combat with his very motivated dad - just shoot the guy!
@kilo4521 No, it's not fake. Probably just a gray-painted canvas stretched over the real boulder that is there, to protect the actors. That pass-through is incredibly tight ( I have been there and climbed this, the North Trail), and there is no way that Hawkeye could "run" through that aperture; they just made it look a little more dramatic. Narrow trail, and it is protected by stanchions and chain-ropes in real life.Peace:-)
To Youtube regulators who constantly regulate such clips like this, don't. Scenes like this spawns more interest from many fans like myself whose VHS probably is very old and is looking for a modern replacement, or have yet to buy this for a collection due to whatever reason. Bottom line is, clips like this promote sales for original companies that release it. Don't do us a dis-service and delete this. Thank you.
say what you will about magua but when he knew his number was up - he went out warrior style. he stood there on his feet, leaning into Chingachgook, defiant to the end. Chingachgook also pity's him as lays into magua for the final blow. brilliant scene on so many levels. one of the best sound tracks ever recorded.
@yarbles67 You missed the point of the scene. Chingachgook had no pity for him; it was just the opposite. Maguam the cunning, was outdone in the end by an old man.
You don't think in the back of Chingachgook mind he felt bad he had to take out a fellow indian? Even though Maguam was from a different tribe - they were more 'brothers' in the bigger scheme of things. I know Maguam had it coming but it just seems Chingachgook had a certain look that implied he felt somehow regret in having to take him down.
@yarbles67 OK, either you are just trying to be funny, or you are the dimmest bulb I've come across. Magua just killed his only son; he did not have anything but pure hatred for him. The look he gave him was pure contempt: '...I saw you die...' You think he thought he and Magua were brothers? You don't understand anything about the Indian civilizations, and definitely not anything about the Mohicans and Iraquois. That was what the whole story was about, were you asleep in the movies? Read more.
@yarbles67 He stood there because he was in shock, both from the wounds and the fact that an old *MOHAWK* just bested him and was staring him in the eye, so that Magua would have the time to think that he was going to die in a moment at the hands of an aging Mohawk, whose son he just killed. The Indians 'count coup' and that's the ultimate coup. It had nothing to do with him being a warrior.
@oldkame It is a "Gunstock War Club". There are various theories why this design was used, some say it was an independent design that coincidentally resembled the european muskets; others say that the Indians were impressed at how the Europeans used their muskets as bludgeons after they had fired them. This design could hit with remarkable power focused along the "buttstock" edge, penetrating bone and flesh. Later the design was made more lethal by the addition of a steel blade as we see here
After Uncas and Alice die and the music kicks back in , Chingachgook has only one thing on his mind. The audience is routing for him to kill Magua , The wise elder of the group becomes grief stricken, Vengence is all he has left . Do or Die !
The first gunshot after Uncas and Alice die tells Magua the fight's not over yet. Then all his men get mowed down, and he has to face the father of the man he killed. Time to die.
@RoyalDog214 Dude this scene was bad@ss. You think the fight is lame because magua just stands there...He was trying to fight but Chingachgook countered everything he did, which disarmed him, and literally broke his elbow and shoulder at the same time...lol. Chingachgook is a soft spoken complete bad@ss. Very emotional ending to a very good movie.
@RoyalDog214 He already knew he was beaten. If you don't have the witts about you to realize that then you probably should go watch something a little simpler.
@mickel1470 Yes because The Last of the Mohicans is "SUCH" a complicated film to understand. My argument was with the fight scene not the story line for the film you dink.
@RoyalDog214 go watch a starwars movie. He wasn't just standing there, he was getting countered, you're too much of a moron to realize that though, clearly. Go watch attack of the clones or something, kid.
I LOVE that despite Nathaniel being our hero...it is the father who delivers Magua's death. It is a quick death...we feel the pain the father feels in the cry and the need for vengence.
My God, what a movie! Wacth the arshole at 3:33 lowering his knife in his right hand thinking she is scared from it. Then watch him raise his left hand to signal to her to come to him that she is safe. A hand stained with the blood of her lover who just gave his life trying to save her. What an arsehole!
2:21 to the end, shows the pure rage and pain that a father feels when he sees his own flesh and blood killed, only a fraction of what is truely experienced is shown here
Great movie and book and great acting, but I have to admit I didn't feel for any of the non-Indian characters one bit, what the hell are you doing in someone else's land and even more, bring your colonial and genocidal wars ?
@dixxjamm I agree that the way the foreigners went about their business was horrible, but lets not pretend that genocide and war was not a part of many of the Native American groups lives before the colonials arrived. Not saying it was okay in either circumstance, but take a look at history before the blame of war is placed on one group of people.
@maverick2you This is like saying that if I have an argument with one of my friends, close ones or family, it's ok for you or someone from the outside to come an bust my balls...the thing is, there are things which we are forced to deal with because of fate and things that we do or are forced upon us by decision. In this case, those tribes were occupying the same territory for thousands of years, and just like everywhere, war was bound to happen. The whites came by decision and predatory intent.
One of the greatest scenes ever. Magua was mean, but Chingachgook was a might bit meaner, as the final scene shows. Wes Studi was awesome in this movie. His and Jodhi May's performances stole the show from the other more famous actors. Choosing North Carolina's mountains was a wise choice for shooting this film, the scenery was magnificent.
golden movies, never ever a film like this will come, it s time for stupid machine and robotics and genetically perverted stupids movies also some silly stupid actors just physically imitating the best actors of old times. lost world!!!

Great movie and book and great acting, but I have to admit I didn't feel for any of the non-Indian characters one bit, what the hell are you doing in someone else's land and even more, bring your colonial and genocidal wars ?
dixxjamm 9 months ago

The fight was over fast but Magua didn't go quick and he didn't go easy. By that I mean his death was slow and painful.

The weapon of choice that was used to destroy Magua is aGunstock War Club! Very great weapon! Very destructive!
GREAT MOVIE!
