@mikeshemi72 I've been told some..............interesting things about this man. Was looking to possibly convert the Atkinson into a museum a couple years ago. I got talked out of it by a lot of people who were very active in the carferry community. The primary reason was Scotlund. Too bad...that ship has to sit there rusting forever :(
I rode to Wisconsin on this ship when I was much younger, having grown up in the Ann Arbor homeport of Frankfort,MI. There is also another another Ann Arbor boat Named VIKING that last I saw it on boat nerd.com was in Mennomie
I did a bunch of research on this ship. I was looking to convert her into a museum but her condition is too far gone. Plus there are too many fees attached to the ship right now. The owner got in way over his head when he bought her. The ship is currently padlocked because of all the liens against her.
The story I got weas a man bought her-him?Was going to put a tire recycleing plant on it and float aroud and do junk tires?But there was talk about it could sink with a couple millon tire on board,so that didnt happen so there it sets.we toured it completly a few years back,that was very interesting,other than that ??GEO
They just scrapped the old girl unfortunately a few months ago

Its in Detour Mi,at the old coal dock,if u go to google earth find detour,follow the st maries river north about 5 mi you can see it docked
