This man is the man who inspired things like Linux kernel, Wikipedia, Creative Commons and open source software like Firefox, LibreOffice and Thunderbird
I just spent 15 minutes trying to figure out how to install a popular program because I had to use the command line to do it and I haven't memorized all the commands.
@livinglegend1187 funny, most linux distributions can install software and libraries with a single command and that's it. perhaps you're using an archaic linux distro from 99 where you had to download and build the software yourself, however, i think it's much safer to assume that you're just retarded.
@colderplasma Nope. I have a master's ion computer science.
I downloaded a program (I think it was Truecrypt) and tried running the install script on Lubuntu. Nothing happened. Even when the right-click dialogue gives me the "run" option nothing happened.
Then I had to drop into command line and try running it there.
The entire process was completely shitty and totally unacceptable. Linux sucks for everyone except virgin neckbeards who love the command line.
NO ai programmi proprietari. Chi impedisce il softwere libero vuole il controllo dell'utente (R:S). Sono assolutamente d'accordo. La politica sta invadendo sempre più la rete...e non solo la politica (intesa sopratutto come controllo dell'utente) ciao
Free software is not about "no one benefiting" (sorry for the double negative) - the key is that the GPL license and similar mechanisms insure that the social good is maintained for the long term while allowing many to profit/benefit form the intellectual property in the short to medium term.
I didn't explain what i ment properly. I will give you an example - the Wikipedia - there can be (and there are!) attempts to block the editing of certain articles because of strong political opinions - a group of people - well organized and determined can try to bend a definition to their liking - it has happened. Other actions may include over protective and enslaving governments embracing free software as an excuse for increasing taxation and extending their enslaving grip on the society.
@csev exactly, and this is why the open source community is fairly quick to cover bugs and other glitches with open source software. for the social good :) I've seen alot of really wonderful nice people helping others out in this way aswell as offering advice and other help.
It is impossible: That's why it is a widespread world movement granting access for all the people not a political party. By the way. I don' t quite understand why do you provided "manipulation" as an hypothetical future situation while it's the Status Quo with proprietary software nowadays... That was totally hyperbolic...
BTW. Just to correct you, it's not Creative Commons that he predicted, it is GFDL (GNU Free Documentation Licence). It's used as a licence that covers all the text on Wikipedia (as well as many ilustrations/photos).
It's not that you're that off either. The main for some forms of CC licenses are pretty much the same. But GFDL is older, and Stallman criticized some of the forms of CC.
There is some concern that the date 1996 in this video is incorrect - I am looking into this - if the date is wrong I will have to delete and republish the video.

If you want to go live a cheap/fake life by copying all the trendsetters, go for it. Niggz out
i agree with iampenguinpowered. This has already happened. You know Wikipedia. Yeah... That's under a variety of permissive licenses, and it also has a large amount of info held on it. so heres one last thing for you PietroBaroni

Linux respects my freedom.
However... I don't give a shit because Linux sucks and wastes my time. If free software wastes my time then it DOESN'T respect my freedom.

@livinglegend1187 WUT? Why does Linux waste your time and what have that to do with your freedom?

Forget proprietary software. Yes it is possible, and has already happened to the Polish segment of the Wikipedia. To some articles at least.

Pero no ayudan a su prójimo; eso está muy mal, hackers, eso está muy mal.
Cuando tengamos bastante software libre para nosotros, hackers, para nosotros,
Desecharemos esas dañinas licencias para siempre, hackers, para siempre.
