Albert was the first of the greats I got to see as with @TheBlackycat it was long before he passed away and as the great man played his guitar next to me in the audience walkabout he blew me away he was awesome
WOW!!!! Saw AC at the Town and Country Club in the early-mid 80's. The band was as tight as a nut, and did a fantastic 20 minute set before the boss came on and blew everyone away. A great musician and showman who gave so much great music to us all!!!
Shortly before he passed away AC played 2 shows at a local club. I got tickets for me and my bro to the first show. It was a great show. He blew us away. During the encore we ordered a pitcher of beer and as people are leaving the first show we sat there drinking our beer. Next thing we know, folks are filing in for the 2nd show. We decide to stay. Another great performance. Albert passed away several months later. Only time I ever saw him. Damn glad we bought that pitcher.
People ask me why I never go to concerts...........If guys like Albert Collins where still around then they would ask me why I am always going to concerts.
@70goldtop Because Stevie Ray amazed everyone including Albert. You need to learn just what these players felt about eachother on a personal level before you make insulting comments about any of them.
Albert is never going to rest in peace!! He will play for ever and Im sure he is playing right now!!! He's been playing in my room for the last 2 hours ... ;-)
I LOVE this man's music! What a tremendous gift he gave to this world. His body of work is fantastic. If you can listen to this stuff without shakin' that thang....time to check if you have a pulse!
@DanielGrozier Not sure who you think is the Master or Scholar, but there's no comparison in my opinion to the ones who learned from the folks before them. There would be no SRV without Albert Collins, i was merely pointing out the homage that SRV paid to Albert Collins. Anybody could say SRV was better, and they may be right, but he wouldn't be the player without guys like Albert Collins and King, so it's a mute point. certainly no disrespect intended.

@2009framat wiki and several other sources i've read concure that Albert tuned to an "open F-minor" tuning (low to high: F-C-F-Ab-C-F). i should know, cuz it was his tuning that drove my sister to collect virtually every tune he ever released trying to figure it out by ear!
It is basicly the same tuning. I saw him live in 1980 (sitting 2 or 3 meter from the stage),1981,1983 he played then in an open d minor with a capodaster around the 3. -8. fret.
On the vynil of ICE PICKIN you can read it in the liner notes, too.
@2009framat yeah, that's probably it. either way, Albert was amazing and nobody I"VE ever heard has sounded like that! he was truly one of a kind and a great inspiration to the rest of us! what i always found truly unique about him was that he drew most of his influence from the B-3 and you can definitely hear it when he plays. RIP Albert
@Realitytourist not that the comment was meant harmfully but in this genre i only listen to the black guys seems they have more sole then the white ons. it just came to me you hardy see a black guy using a pick.
Holy shit this guy's good. It's kind of funny how he sort of looks like this crazy old man with standing with this weird stance, and then when he busts out a lick with that grin on his face it's like, "Jesus, FUCK, I'm I really hearing someone play the guitar *that* well?".

Wanna hear something funny?
One day, I heard an Albert Collins tune and decided I was going to learn it because I loved his style.
If that's not funny enough, I didn't realize he was finger picking until there were licks that didn't make sense with a pick.
That's when I gave up.
