You got your legs really wide. That's wide even for a low bar squat. Squat lockouts mostly hit the glutes and and vastus medialis, so the advantages of keeping your legs wide aren't there like they would be for a full squat, so you can make it a bit more comfortable if you bring your feet in a bit. Still, nice reps.
doing squat lockouts with supra maximal weight really seems to turn on that CNS and makes full rom squats with normal weight feel noticably lighter. I was going to start doing these more.
@FieldBoy111 I agree, they certainly do...although i only do these once in a while.the cns and entire body can get burned out as a result of performing these every week...kind of like heavy every week [max or near max weight]...i usually would do 2-3 sets of walkouts/ins before full rom squats..every 2-3 weeks..the partials/lockouts..as seen here are just something i would do ounce in a while..just for a change.
i get the idea of this movement its to just get your body to get use to really heavy weight but dont call these squats there just lockouts and are more of a method of training rather than an actual squat.
@bennieandscooby I'm at a lighter bodyweight now,so,i'm not really sure what my max is...i'm performing just as good, maybe even better at a lighter bodyweight...my raw back squat is usually over 3X bodyweight [just below parallel depth] for 1 rep.Alot of old school ''strength/power gyms'' or ''hardcore gyms'' have the old gold york 100lb. plates...i even know someone who found a couple at a scrap/junk yard...1 man's trash is another man's treasure, lol.
@cmbrock100 I think you shouldn't underestimate this. If you can't squat at least 500-600 lbs, there is no reason for even trying one rep with this weight. It might be short range of motion, but surely hard as hell.
@scgamerd you get more used to lift heavy stuff. I often do these partials just before I go "all the way" down on squats. It helps me to stimulate the central nervous system ( weight feels lighter as it actually is)
LMFAO FAIL, this a total fail, this isnt working anything but putting pain in ur lower back. And were not being trolls were speaking the truth because you'll just have major issues when ur older
dude, don't listen to negative people telling you you're not doing squats or whatever...you just picked up 1000lbs...any way you did no matter the distance is just damn cool man! good luck to ya!
Jamie Lewis - new holder of various powerlifting records - swears by partials and lockouts.
Christ, you people listen a bit to Rippetoe, or someone who basically just quotes Rip, and you're off to the races. There's a whole lot more to strength training than squatting past parallel - and give me a break with "ass to grass" because even most O-lifters that I've trained with don't do that.
@ClarkNThomas The gold york plates are 100's...a true rep of 430?I have done over 400lbs. for 20 reps...raw,below parallel, weighing well under 200lbs...check out my channel.
@xDoomx735 ok well if those plates are 100 pounds, you just did around 1900, and you definitely didn't underestimate it that much. also, i'm 15 and i can do 350, so being able to do 400 is not that impressive. i'm 145 lbs....
While I dont really dont agree with this type of training method on squat. I would like to note that the US "Olympic Style" Weightlifting team trains with squat lockouts....They generally use more range of motion but they use this as a viable means to develop quad strength.....stop talking crap about people unless you are a trained professional or a gym rat that knows what they are talking about
This is Lockout training, If you dont understand it thats not this guys problem, there is a purpose for it if your a derp and dont get it thats your problem and this vid does not claim to be a squat hence the " squat lockout" also 98% of the keyboard warriors here doing chair sits and finger reps whining about this vid could not do a 1000lb lockout, no where even close.
I'm not sure why people are hating on this guy.... They obviously know nothing, if you're experienced in weight training you would know that you would train your lockouts to help your actual squats/deadlifts/bench/etc.
gud on ya!....love how at the first part of the rom is just bending the bar, since its so heavy, to even move a weight like that regardless of rom is amazing.
@xDoomx735 nice work. lockouts are key in getting stronger with any lift and i'll be doing more of them as well. BTW your wasting your time even replying to all these ignorant people that know nothing about lifting.
Its called a back/hip lift. strongmen do them all the time. LOL at the haters who probably don't lift, or they consider curling 5lbs in the power rack "hard training"
And I suppose you haters will all go to Brain Shaws page. (2011 Worlds Strongest Man) And talk smack about his half squats with a spyder bar. Which were only a few hundred pounds heavier than what this guys was doing.
@aznrevolution19 Lol,why don't you take a look at my channel to see the ''full reps'' i do...i can see where the anger and jealousy comes from, not having any videos of your own...and possibly some insecurities and other deeper personal issues.
@2faxil Puts huge strain on you nervous system, can help unleash a massive hormone production in your body, also helps to condition it for lifting more weight than you used to, gets the body ready (if you about to compete)
In order for this to be a "squat lockout" shouldn't be off of a high box box? You are probably overloading to ~180%. is that really beneficial to your training? Your overloading your upper and lower back, you start in the right position with your but back and chest forward, but immediately situate directly under the bar, now relying on your spine to carry the weight instead of your erectors. The only thing you did right was do this in a squat cage, thank god you didn't try to walk it out.
@spenca209 lol,i have walked out over 1000lbs....held it for time, then walked it back in without a problem. If you bothered to take a look at the videos on my channel, you would see plenty of walking/moving with heavy weights.
@xDoomx735 injury, hurt, all the same thing. Put too much tension on quads etc. Ass to grass are the safest and best squat. I don't know why you would want to waste time locking out on 1000 lbs when you're only moving 2 inches with a great possibility of injury.
@ltdshred1 Lol,first of all squatting is sitting back, not bending down so the stress/pressure is on the hips.glutes, hams and very little quads,i don't feel anything on my knee's at all, read the comment up top to see why exactly i do these...then look at my channel to see that i do full squats.
@xDoomx735 I looked at some of your videos. Those are parallel squats, I'm talking about this /watch?v=WK7m6I5m6gY. I was refering to ATG as a full squat. And I never said anything about bending down.
@ltdshred1 Ok,i understand now, what your referring to as a full squat is a olympic style squat, which is total opposite of my squatting style,i have a stance that maximizes my strengths but also restricts from squatting to the depth your talking about...although i can and do break parallel [depth required in usapl/ipf] with my stance.I do use the olympic style squat and the olympic style squat goodmorning squat every 2-3 weeks...which have given me great overall results.
@xDoomx735 Yea. Olympic squats are super-safe and in my opinion a lot harder. That's where I think it counts. I do a lot less weight compared to powerlifting. But still impressive powerlifting squats though
@ltdshred1 Thank you,Yes,i agree they are harder, high bar,close/narrow stance, atg, are the most challenging for most people including myself.Have you ever tried olympic style goodmorning squats? They add even more of a challenge, but the results you get from them are great.
Just holding this weight for lockout is impressiveas hell in itself. If anyone wants to test the aforementioned principle of priming the CNS by holding a weight at lockout which is substantially higher than than their wroking set you can simply at 40 lbs to your bench, hold it at lockout (treat this as a set) and then reduce to your working depth.
These are also called Heavy Supports. As xDoomx735 mentioned, this isn't for building any muscle group whatsoever. The main purpose of doing this exercise is to prime the CNS for lifting loads that are way lighter than the loads you use here. I've found that they help with one's 1RM. T-nation has a few articles lying around that discusses this exercise in full detail. This is one way to train smart, props to Doom for doing them.
@latchbox Thank you,it's great to see someone that knows what their talking about [you and a few others here],your knowledge and understanding is appreciated.
It's nice knowing all the dislikes for this video come from mentally challenged people INCAPABLE of reading previous posts that would lead to them being enlightened on why these aren't full squats.. haha. These are nice. You should definitely wear shorts so we can see your quads and film from the side or something.
The main aids of lockouts in my opinion are being able to handle more weight loaded onto your back, and the tendon strength in your knees, back and hip that are developed when you hit up a heavy partial squat. And no matter what anyone says partial movements can be great mass builders.
@Draykid Indeed they can. I'm an amateur powerlifter (trained for 18 months from no sporting background and am aiming for a 1000lb total soon at 215) nowhere near this guys class but I know the value of rack pulls and board presses in my work. If you can grip and lockout 500 on a rack pull, you go into a 405 KNOWING your grip won't break, KNOWING your back is strong.....all about willpower.
The next time this guy picks up 500 out the rack it'll feel like NOTHING
It helps with bar acceleration from that point up when he squats with lighter weight. Its a great exercise to do if he has trouble locking his squat out from that point up and helps to get his body and nervous system accustomed to handling heavier weight when he does full squats
I'm not bashing the squat lockout, thats understandable and I guess these retards don't understand what its for. You could just do box squats, keep the weight on your back at all times, but too each his own. I'm worried about why the hell your stance is so wide? You're big toe should be under your arm pit :x

The main purpose of doing this exercise is to prime the CNS for lifting loads that are way lighter than the loads you use here. I've found that they help with one's 1RM. T-nation has a few articles lying around that discusses this exercise in full detail. This is one way to train smart, props to Doom for doing them.

tatornoob 6 months ago
You're only gonna fuck up your hips if you do this. I don't really see the point in doing this kind of lift

@TigerArm93
Find me one example in the history of lifting of a guy who fucked his hips over by doing short range exercises.

It's nice knowing all the dislikes for this video come from mentally challenged people INCAPABLE of reading previous posts that would lead to them being enlightened on why these aren't full squats.. haha. These are nice. You should definitely wear shorts so we can see your quads and film from the side or something.

great movement for increasing your squat builds great stability when holding the weight at the top when you do a full squat

The main aids of lockouts in my opinion are being able to handle more weight loaded onto your back, and the tendon strength in your knees, back and hip that are developed when you hit up a heavy partial squat. And no matter what anyone says partial movements can be great mass builders.
Draykid 10 months ago
@Draykid Indeed they can. I'm an amateur powerlifter (trained for 18 months from no sporting background and am aiming for a 1000lb total soon at 215) nowhere near this guys class but I know the value of rack pulls and board presses in my work. If you can grip and lockout 500 on a rack pull, you go into a 405 KNOWING your grip won't break, KNOWING your back is strong.....all about willpower.
The next time this guy picks up 500 out the rack it'll feel like NOTHING
pisswizzard 10 months ago
Great job on the lockouts. Doing these are brilliant for overloading principal and getting your body used to more weight.
csjs123 1 year ago
It helps with bar acceleration from that point up when he squats with lighter weight. Its a great exercise to do if he has trouble locking his squat out from that point up and helps to get his body and nervous system accustomed to handling heavier weight when he does full squats

lockout squat is pointless works on dick nuthing
fesuma 1 year ago
I'm not bashing the squat lockout, thats understandable and I guess these retards don't understand what its for. You could just do box squats, keep the weight on your back at all times, but too each his own. I'm worried about why the hell your stance is so wide? You're big toe should be under your arm pit :x
