This is some serious bullshit. You can manipulate the statistics by saying "the total of national wealth" and not clarifying your meaning, sure. More than 20% of the US budget every year goes to defense. Almost $700 billion, several hundred billion more than any other country.

This is bullshit. Federal Reserve System has recently put America in 28 TRILLION dollars of //additional// debt, and we have unfunded mandates to cover derivatives losses out to over 200 TRILLION dollars.

Corporations that produce military hardware receive a big-big chunk of that under the table funding, laundered through the Debt Syndicate banks.

IF military spending is only 4% of our GDP, and Military spending is over half of our collected income tax, then this perspective is misleading. 4% is PLENTY, considering our large budget. At any rate, total government spending needs to be brought down to size. Federal, state, and local government spending combined have reached like 45% of GDP this year.

We can go ahead and make defense like 80% of our government's budget or whatever, but the point is that their entire budget need to be much smaller. Only around 10% or so of GDP is was total government spending should be.

How about spending 80% on defense, spend the rest on infrastructure roads ect, and and keep TOTAL spending (ie wasteful spending) low? 80% of an 800 billion budget is a lot better than 20% of a 3 trillion dollar budget.

Well the defense spending always goes up during a time of war, but two things. First, we are in a war, and our soldiers could do with better equipment (there are no rifles which are far superior to what they now have) and second, we need to have the money to have the technology to stop another 9/11
