Just noticed....when the board turned after the first question, there were 7 answers on the board. When he went to ask the second question, there were only 5 answers. Strange.
Good feeling that there was an error done by the Production Assistants. This was to be edited out but probably was overlooked. Happens a lot even today and especially in Movies.
occasionally they have a question with more than 6 answers, so they need the extra spaces. i've never seen them use all 12, but i think i've seen a question with 10 answers before.

IMO since they lived next door to the studio, they snuck into it a day b4 the recording of the show, stole the questions, then practised different answers over the whole night. Just before they started recording the show they each took two lines of speed because they didn't get any sleep the previos night.
