When the heart is stressed it releases a hormone that attempts to lower the bodies fluid level which will lower blood pressure and relieve stress on the heart. One of the outcomes of the hormone is that it can cause frequent urination. I asked him the same question..."Why do I have to urinate ever 5 minutes during and attack?"
@azadman123 Good question. The sources of AF are indeed the areas around the veins, but the atrium itself is the one fibrillating, the result of being "driven" by these sources. Being in AF and going at 300-500 beats/minute is somewhat "toxic" to the atrium, causing something called electrical and mechanical "remodeling," with replacement of healthy tissues by scars. The atrium sort of loses its tone, becomes baggy, and gets enlarged. It becomes a vicious cycle.
