The Mandinka aren't just a tribe, they were by far the most powerful empire of western Africa of the High Middle Ages. The Mali Empire was the Mandinka empire.
doG, I love this woman...her passion and honesty. Her voice ....
It's funny, I've never seen her as eccentric; not at all. To me she is simply a woman with opinions and a mind of her own and not hesitant to express them.
Drop dead gorgeous women who refuse to take on the roll of a Barbie doll don't seem to be popular in the Entertainment Industry and the press. How much of a stir would she have caused if she had been born with a penis? None.
@strato01844 RIGHT THE F ON!!!!!!! I like both Bjork & Sinead but comparing them just because they're both female is ridiculous & I'm sure it's insulting to women performers!!!
Bjork is theatrical, affected and involves herself with many collaborators to create "her" sound. Sinead is an original of the species - Radical, volatile, sincere, passionate and punk in ways Bjork could only hope to mimic. And I'm sorry, but her voice too makes Bjork's sound normal in comparison. All this is not to criticise Bjork, she's good but simply nothing compares...
Yes, I agree with you on that. Björk could never even dream to be as eccentric as Sinéad, in a good sense of course. I don't think that there's anyone who could do that, except Sinéad. Björk, just like you said, is theatrical and tries too much. On the other hand these two are hard to compare, and I don't think that Björk even aims to be the next Sinéad.
Sinead is a one off, so unique, a true gem who completely inspired the style of Byork among many others. Its a shame closed minded people got so nasty over what she did but us open minded folk are with her all the way. She had so much more to offer than she was able to achieve, bit like Phil Lynott. The singing in this song is incredible to say the least.
Not "way" longer. Bjork was born in 1965 and started singing at the age of eleven and Sinead was born in 1966 and started singing at the age of fifteen. Fact is though I was listening to Sinead since 1987 and no one over here had even heard Bjork until quite a bit later. First album I heard her on was The Sugarcubes in 1990 but most people never heard her until later when she went solo. I've known Sineads music longer than Bjork's and I think that is true of most people.
Kickass tune!

People can compare Bjork and Sinead for both being weird, and that's valid. Anybody trying to say that Bjork isn't eccentric is deaf.
The bottom line is that they're both totally different chicks with totally different sounds. Female isn't a genre of music.

I have to agree-I never would have thought of comparing the two before now.

You can't compare anything to that woman and voice... But I love Björks music too though Sinéad is the biggest talent we have on earth

Bjork has cited Sinead as being her favourite singer and an inspiration, so its not strange to draw parallel's , they are both good .
