i think this was from the live concert HBO showed in the late 70's .a huge spaceship landed on stage and the band as in it. very cool for the 70's.

@ganspernanthy - i saw that spaceship live in Lexington Kentucky back then. It was truly amazing. The top slowly rose with lazers everywhere and smoke, as he slowly walked toward the mic and started the concert with 'can't get you out of my head'  .It was massive

Yea it was released in 2006 and is available on Amazon just make sure you get the ''special edition'' one without the Discovery vids attached, BTW If you go to the FTM ELO site there is news that the entire concert may be released shortly

Thanks ELONut, think i may hang fire if the full concert is possibly on the verge of being released. The sound on this version is so good and as has been commented, "kicks ass", you wonder why we've had to wait to finally rid our selves of the unsatasfactory original.

I have no idea! But in my opinion this should have have been corrected many years ago! it has been damaging to the band.s legacy, Hopefully this will shut up those so called experts who shouted from the rooftops that ELO faked it live!

were can I get a copy!! I own the vhs, its really only 3 songs that sound like theres a recording playin with the band, Standing in the rain, sweet takin women, turned to stone. Yours, turned to stone and standing in the rain sound totally live!!I have'nt heard your sweet takin women version, now I seen this concert in Detroit and Cleveland, and it did sound like they used some backing vocal recordings on "sweet takin... well thank you so much!! let me know where I can get this."another elo nut"

@ELONut Thanks so much for these posts!! Never had the opp. to see them live due to military service, friends at home did in Philly, said they were awesome!!!!! Most people hopefullly never bought into that whole "fake it live" rubbish; those who did lost out and are idiots. Jeff and the band were consummate musicians who never would have denigraded their craft by faking anything. Turning my kids in to fans of real music by showing them ELO, Beatles and other great bands of that marvelous era.

Not trying to say they are lip-syncing which they aren't but if your listen around about 1:55-2:02, you can hear the backing track of the song which they used to keep in time.

Actually, that's the electric piano part that Richard Tandy plays during that song that you're talking about.

I think what you're thinking of is a click track, which the band probably did use, which would have sounded like a metronome, goign at the tempo of the song. It wouldn't be playing 32nd notes like you hear during that bit.

ELOnut, I don't have the remastered DVD of this show yet, so I want to thank you for posting this and letting the critics, because the true ELO fan always knew, that the band wasn't "phoning it it", (pun intended), on live Turn to Stone, Sweet Talking Woman and Standing in the Rain. I caught the flubbed line too. So what-nobody's perfect--that's what makes playing live so great.
