I have only beaten this game once, and it was on the SNES and it took countless hours of searching and working through the game, and at least 20 or 30 runs where I only got to level 5 or so and died / quit (stupid spiders). Finally wound up making a "base" on level 7 where I dropped all my stuff and got good with all the portals and finally whooped up on this game. That was like 3 years ago, and I haven't played it since...
i think that you have made few mistakes during this run.
first of all, you should take alternative route in level 1, its faster and if you are quick, you dont have 2 fight few kobols/snakes. also in level 2 it pays to have thief with picklocks, you can use picklock on one door and save silver key for level 3 (you must place it into hole that shows blue button and then take hole to level 4).

It seems as if he uses the dead characters as "quick item" slots so he doesn't have to go to the inventory screen.

Fantastic , I have finished Eob 1 more than 20 times and I am not remember to play it in 10 minutes only.
Why he killed all of his charachters? Might the only one charachter he has , levels up faster , because of not spread of dead characters experience.
When the Eob4 will be out , I challenge you to finish it in 10 minutes.
