No doubt about it, this is a great fill that's definitely going in my chops draw so thank you for that. But I have to point out you're way off with your description and understanding of it. It's all 16th note triplets, no 32nds at all. You have just two notes on the 1st tom (one-trip) and the "let" is the second tom. "And" is where the bass starts and continues the 16th triplets.

As i said though, great fill, and loving your work - I'm just a lil OCD with my theory!!

Do you ever include quintuplets in your fills/beats? like triplet = 3, then quintuplet = 5 :D Personally, I love to incorporate fills based on quintuplets, a really exotic rythm :D

I've made custom orders from Foxy Drummer before and they have decent wood where they make the sticks. I totally understand where you're coming from as my mom's mom, my grandmother is currently fighting her life for cancer as well. Mom would probably get sad if I mention this video to her since I have no funds to donate and especially on this day too.

On a side note, great lesson. Like the others on the comments, I doubt if those bass hits are really 32nd notes as they sound 'off' to my ears.

i was taught this by a friend and he called it three's and two's, also doing twos and two's (i.e 2 hand 2 foot) i am not a drummer, i am a guitarist who plays drums badly for fun but i can pull off convincing fills with this technique and i think too many metal drummers rely on this to sound fast when its not that hard.

"one triplet and do do bap" You are only playing six hits, not seven, when you demonstrate slowly. You are not playing the "and" after the triplet. I've counted it again and again and will apologize if I'm wrong.

Hmm.. I've listened a couple of times and read the comments, and I still don't think this fill flows very well from playing a groove. Even if it does fit the timing properly... it just doesn't flow. Maybe better as a stand alone or worked into a solo.

The fill is not out of time - although it does sound awkward in my ears I'm sure it just goes over the more common amount of counts, whether they be 16ths or 32nds. It may not be out of time but the awkwardness just doesn't sound very musical to my ears, Van should incorporate it into some jazz - that might be the place for it.

My God.. I feel for you Randy. I know this is off topic for this channel, but the critical question we need to start asking in regards to this monster killer is WHAT HAS CHANGED? 100 years ago, yeah there was cancer, but there wasn't a thousand different types and wasn't any where close to the massive epidemic it is now. A multi faceted attack has been waged on the population through environmental means and food supplies. This should be obvious to anyone that does a little objective research.

the fill you play is out of time, you can either play the crash and snare at one hit or play the fill like,... 1/8 before, cause it makes your rythm sound crappy

The fill is not out of time. The cymbal hit is the start of the next beat. If you have have 3 16th note triplets that equals half the beat. Then you have a 16th note on the & of the beat. You still need to fill the other 4th of the beat. That is where the 32nd note triplets come in. A set of 3 32nd note triplets holds the same value of a 16th note. Just as the first set of 16th note triplets holds the same value of an 8th note. RVP

@vansdrumming I saw in one of your videos that it isn't very smart to play fills that don't fit your beat, and you made an example, well this goes faster than the beat you play along just by adding the crash at the end, if you take it off or either play it with the snare, then it would sound better

iv been watching your video's for a while and i was wondering if you could do a lesson on those little flam fills that i hear vinnie colaiuta do so much. its like a flam on the snare and toms. but a few of them in succession. im sure if you look at just about any vinnie colaiuta drum solo stuff he'l be playing a bunch in them.

anyway yeah id love a lesson on those because if you teach it it'l probably become a lot easier for all of us.
