I don't think that interviewer was idiotic...She had planned questions, and the way she came off seemed ditsy, but it was probably just because she was told to act that way. And she was probably nervous, you know? There weren't that many female reporters back then. She probably felt honored to interview The Beatles.

To tell the truth, I was a little afraid for her because of his famous acerbic wit, I thought he'd decimate her with some barbed remark because she was so obviously idiotic.  Instead he took pity. Okay, so I am in love with John, but I noticed how Ringo was being all cute and funny after the reporter made the "bunch of British Elvis Presleys" comment what with the shaking of his hips and the "It's not true. It's not true!" chanting. Then John, simultaneously, said "He must be blind." Then, looked over at Ringo, and started dancing, too. Gah, the unorigionality from John kills me, but his other times make up for it. GO RINGO!

Someone shouts to the guys "Tell Murray the K to cut that crap out". Not sure what's the person is talking about, but Murray the K was a disk jock (in NY I think) that was a big supporter of the Beatles when they first started getting airplay.

Murray was playing the Beatles non stop and promoting them like crazy. By the time they got to the US, the number of people who loved them and the number of people who were sick of them was probably about the same. You know how the press can hype something until you're sick of it.

Some reporters wanted to take them down a peg or two, but they didn't expect them to be so charming. The press was used to dealing with mindless teen idols. They weren't expecting talented & intelligent artists.

The Beatles had to leave their mikes and walk up to the reporter, and lean downward. It gave the impression of an adult talking to a child, don't you think? Especially with her simplistic questions. Yet, consider, the Beatles were new, and she probably had to ask general-type questions. Its like, "getting to know you" questions. Thanks for the post!

But the way they had to walk to the edge of the stage one at a time was definitely a weird way to interview them.
