  • I'm 19, and I'll probably have to have the laparoscopy done for endo... how long did it take for you to recover and how much pain did you have after the surgery?

  • Simple & minimal use of instruments...

  • These videos are very educational. Thank you. I've had mechanical endometriosis after a cone biopsy that caused so much scarring it sealed shut. So nothing could get out, and the endometrium back flowed through my fallopian tubes, against the ovaries, and into the pelvic cavity. I did Lupron injections off/on for 3 years. It was a God send, but just can't handle the side effects anymore. Going in for hysterectomy and removal of left ovary, maybe even bowel repair.

  • @musclechic2001 I wish you the best. Lupron was a God send for me as well, but I'm too emotional on it. I just fight thru the side-effects tho, as they are worth the relief. I'm on my second treatment of Lupron, but I'm getting the really bad cramps again and will probably have to see my fertility specialist again for a third lap.I can't get a hysterectomy, as I am only 20 and there is no doctor that would do that on someone so young. Endo is hell and something I wouldn't wish on my worse enemy.

  • (continued) I've heard of too many cases where further surgeries just cause more pain. This is one disease the medical community dosn't have a handle on. I don't blame them, but I wish they would start learning from all the women that continue to have problems rather then deny there's any problem. It's never been about my imagination and never will be, but there are a lot of doctors will tell you it's in your head rather then admit they couldn't cure the endo.

  • @Laurieb2851 There is no cure for endometriosis. The best that doctors can do is offer treatment to alleviate the symptoms and improve chances for fertility, but the pain will come back. I have endometriosis myself and have had two laparoscopies and have been in a Lupron-induced menopause twice to treat it. After 5 years of not seeing my fertility specialist (OB/GYNs refuse to take on my case), I am now starting to get the characteristic debilitating cramps back. (continued)

  • @Laurieb2851 (continued) I have had endometriosis since I was 12, and it has been hell of failed treatment after failed treatment, so I know how it feels. However, laparoscopy does bring temporary relief of pain for a short period of time. They have been doing research on developing better drugs to treat endo, but the latest one proved to change thicken the endometrium, which makes endo worse. And they also found out that it is probably genetic, as those with a family member are 6 times (cont'd)

  • @Laurieb2851 (continued) as likely to have it if someone in their family did. Also, hysterectomy, tho a good treatment option, is not the silver bullet. Even with all that stuff removed, endo can come back. However, despite all this, research is being done into the cause and treatment of endo. A few theories are being proposed and some drugs are being tested to treat endo, so a proper treatment may be on the horizon. Women may not have to live with the pain of endo in the future.

  • @christiangurl199117 It would be such an enormous gift to women to have an effective treatment for endo. I was one of the lucky ones in that I never knew I had it because I had no pain. It wasn't until I was given a steroid prescription that raised complete hell with the endo, fibroid tumor and other misc. things that I had unimaginable pain and needed an emergency hysterectomy - except it took 6 months to find out what happened to me. Will send you a message soon. Lots to say - no room.

  • Hi! I'm 31, no kids, and I have endometriosis chysts on my both ovaries of about 2 cm. I suppose to make an laparoscopic intervetion but some doctors also told me that is saver to be a normal surgery because the risk to reappear is lower. any recommendations for me on what to choose? thanks!

  • @vyivye Have you considered a naturopathic approach?

  • @gregsandyas2006 They yellow stuff is adipose (fat) tissue. It's supposed to be there. This is not a D & C, it's laproscopic removal of endometriosis, a surgical procedure.

  • What is all that yellow stuff? Is this a D n C or what?

  • hysterectomy is really not big business at least in the U.S.

The $800 quoted is the federal medicaid rimbursement go ahead and look that up.

"reaching in and grabbing the uterus with both hands is perfectly normal with a laparotomy. In the laparoscopic approach I use a morcelator. That is a glorified sink disposal mechanism. That would look no less gruesome to the layman's eyes I presume. What is your suggestion for taking out a uterus? magnetic levitation?

  • @zfxcvgbhnjmk: Addendum - Let us not be to get to forget office visits, prescriptions and follow ups which can run another total of $5000. Also what would it cost ($) if the patient runs into post op complications? Do you think the generous trustworthy doctors or hospitals will take care of the problem for free or will they charge for their corrective actions?

  • @zfxcvgbhnjmk Good one, but as there is no metal in the uterus itself (not unless you put a lot of surgical staples in the uterus), there is no way that magnetic levitation would work. And I'm sure that someone would sue for malpractice if you did it that way.

  • Please, please, please get a second and third opinion before even thinking about a hystericalrectomy (LOL). Educate yourself on-line before letting ANYONE cut into you. I was butchered & now have chronic pain, can't walk well and huge problems with my left leg and hip. The dr. slipped during surgery & cut thru nerves, main artery, and muscles. Found out later they're other surgical procedures that could have been done. They get big buck for the hysts. People have died fr what happened to me

  • big bucks for hysterectomy? It is medicare reimbursed for $800.

the surgery is roughly 2 hours laparoscopically.

That is hardly big bucks. OB gyns are increasingly avoiding doing them because at current malpractice rate they lose money on them.

(that $800 is not profit its revenue doing surgey costs money.)

15 years ago the usual reimbursement fee was $3000 to give you an idea.

PS: I am very sorry to hear of your experience. Most common surgical collateral = ureters.

  • @zfxcvgbhnjmk Don't know where you're from but hysterectomies here are big business! Ca Ching, Ca Ching! A chance of a malpractice suit is next to nill. It just don't happen here. I am not alone in what happened by a long shot in fact a 15 yr old died. THAT scares the hell out of me.

My OB/GYN was in such a fucking hurry to go skiing that he reached inside of me with both hands and pulled everything out that way. THEN the big cover up began. I'm screwed for life & he keeps getting richer.

  • @zfxcvgbhnjmk: Sorry pal, but I am in the field and hysterectomies are good money. Physician service about $1700, Anesthesia Services $1200 & Hospital Services with stay $6000 = Total cost for a 2 1/2 hour surgery $8900. Now let's say the hospital does only 10 a week - that is $4, 450, 000 a year. That is not too shabby.

  • 33 yr old. Just been diagnosed with Endo, due a laparoscomy soon to laser cysts and check to see how bad the Endo is. My Gynacologist says there's a good chance I might need a Hysterectomy. Had problems with my pelvis since I gave birth to my Son, and had SPD too. Seemed to disappear when I had my daughter, but is now back again. My womb has 'moved' and is in the wrong place apparently. I think I'll opt for the Hysterectomy if asked. You live your life with pain and get used to it I think.

  • i'm 41 and i had endometriosis 2 years ago.i underwent laparoscopic surgery in 2008 and just last year i underwent hysterectomy.it has been 7 months already since i had the surgery but i still feel the pelvic pain that i used to feel before and it's getting worse.when i went to see the surgeon (my ob-gyne) 3 months ago,he told me that maybe there is something wrong with my bowel and it's not the endo that's causing the pain.

  • @AimeeLG11 I had the hysterectomy and was a complete mess inside. My pelvis was so compacted they had to look for my uterus and when they did find it, it had taken on the shape of my pelvis bone. I think this is just flat out a nasty surgery and I'm not so sure all disease can be removed. I've come to the conclusion that I'm not having any more surgery unless it causes problems with other organs. (I just had to have my bladder hooked back up.) (Continue)

  • im having this surgery tommorow, and he said he might have to take the whole ovary out..im worried because i want kids.i know ill still have the other one but ...

  • I have endo since my 15th had an operation 1,5 month ago to relieve the pain. During surgery they saw it was worse then they thought, now they removed like 90 to 95% because it was attatced to my collon and they didnt want to cut there. Hopefully it will stay away long enough 'cause the pain was killing.

  • Hi i had endo 2006 the doc gave me progesterone tabs, now the past 12 monthsi have all the symptoms, pain is servere now 9/10, im 27 and have an ap mon am seriously bricking after i saw these vids, im hoping the pain finally goes aswell as this curse coz thats what its like and finally get my life back! poor buggers it looks really painful i hope all the gals whos had this finally gets they're life back and have the babies they have dreamed of. • hi, i am 18 years old, ive had endometriosis sincei was like 13 years old. it sucks! every month is the biggest struggle ever, and i know it hurts a lot but pleaseee do NOT get the surgery! it doesnt take it away, it only relieves it temporarily but it will ALWAYS come back. my friends mom has it too, shes had like 6 or 7 surgeries, and shes still in severe pain. it doesnt help, its just a temp. relief, and even the doctor will tell you that, if they dont, they just wnt ur money. please b carful

  • @dolfincutie It doesn't always come back. I have a friend, who is now pregnant, who had surgery for endo. A few years after her endo surgery she had her appendix out and they said there was no sign of the endo.

I had my second operation for endo last year, and while I still get pain each month, it's nothing that panodal can't fix - which is the normal for most women without endo. Having both surgeries was the best thing to happen to me. I don't regret it and fully reccomend it.

  • I'm 20 and am hopefully getting a lap in April. My doctor thinks i have endo that may be made worse by scar tissue in my abdomen from previous surgeries. I'm quite worried now about this op.

  • This scares me. My doctor said i have it and they were supposed to call me back to have surgery done.. but they never did. It's been like.. 4 months. And i have like FORREL serious pains... like so bad i can't breathe! Okay? And i REALLY feel bad for this lady. Geez. I'm 17 about to turn 18 in 5 days.... Just saying. I hope mine isn't this bad...... :(

  • I'm 16 and I had a laparoscopy a few days ago. My biggest fear was that the doctor wouldn't find anything and it would turn out I just had issues dealing with pain. In the end the doctor found severe endometriosis all throughout, it extended as far as my diaphragm and covered my ovaries- a potential in infertility. I am so glad that I was diagnosed early and that I had a doctor who was willing to perform surgery on someone my age.

  • I'm 18. I was 17 when I had a laparoscopy. Nealry didn't get a laparoscopy 'coz the doctor said I was too young to have endometriosis. & I did have some, so if I hadn't been so persistant I could have got it as bad as that!

  • I have endometriosis and i have 12 pictures of mine being done, and i only had 3 spots and they were burned off. I feel bad that you went through this, but still I personally think the worst part is waking up from anestisa after getting the tube removed from your throat! THE WORST HACKING EVER!

But i woke right up and stayed up after the surgery i had full enegry and never sat down that day! It was a breeze.

  • Holy smokes... I'm 18, and I have endometriosis as well. I have a gyno appt soon, and I seriously hope that I could get this procedure done. I don't understand why women must go through pain such as this for fertility reasons.

  • ive had endo for 10 yrs and im sick of the pain so im having a hysterectomy on 8-10-09 im so scared im only 29

  • @zayasmom99 There are alternative therapies.

  • i had grade four endometriouses......I did not went through any surgery .................I am taking treatments for infertility......after 11 years once again laporascopy was performed.......doctors did not find even a trace of endometriosis in me.....I did not took any medications.........

  • @asmaMs20: Have you tried a naturopathic approach.

  • omg it just looks like they are stabbing and hacking inside of her!

  • That's the uterus... and behind it is adhesions from endo... jesus... I hope they don't find it THIS bad in me on thursday... poor woman!

  • im guessing this is somewhere in the abdominopelvic cavity...and the surgeon is removing an infected/inflamed organ...severing it from its fibrous capsule or whatever isolative covering protects/wardens it off from the other organs...I have no idea...that is a lot of endometrius tissue!
