i know that, the reason why konoha told him to, was because the uchiha clan thought that konoha was discriminating them, so they started to act, itachi was the spy the anbu sent to spy on the clan, they got suspicious, then told itachi to kill them off, itachi had seen many little children get killed in a great war, and he loved sasuke, he didn't want to see children die again. so, he spared him

Well, Sasuke kills Itachi, and then later finds out that Itachi was a good guy, and the leaf village have him orders to kill the whole Uchiha clan, but he couldn't bare to kill his brother, Sasuke. So, he let his brother go and had to become a rogue ninja because of it. And then Sasuke becomes obsessed with destroying the leaf village. There... I liked Itachi alot better after I found that out :)
