as othere here have written: i keep coming back to this video, i love it. although it's sad that it's not the whole song. any chance you'll complete it one day?
I have not looked at this video in a long time - but came back to it today. You always have people asking you how you made the video - over and over! And you always answer them. You must be very patient, and this beautiful quality shows in your art. Laura from Canada
After seeing this video, I looked Tunsberg up on wikipedia and it said it has a population of just 183 people? Really? Looks to have more going on in the video. Cool video btw, nicely done. Love this song.
@tommygunfeth Ohh right, thanks for clearing that up... this is in Norway then? I just assumed it was the Tunsberg in the States when I searched it on wikipedia.
The original version of this song has been one of my favorites of all time for about 10 years -- you've done a wonderful job here of capturing the majesty of the alternate track. This song is about portraying the grand beauty of small things in a simple and honest way, and your (very well done) video does just that. Two good friends walking around town and enjoying each other's presence is the kind of small but unforgettable moment Kozelek is singing about.
we haven't forgotten how to love ourselves...although sadly our idea of 'self' has shrunken from universe(outside of our what we know) to a small portion of brain desperately trying to grab the spirit in this world.
come check 'rainy day' in video response, it's on the subject.
@masonchumpia yeah the other version is sweet too on the albums. this one is from the vanilla sky soundtrack. not sure if it was rerecorded for that specifically or what. but its basically a whole new track!
There's probably no simple answer to this, but how do you get everything looking so "filmic" on that camera? I just got myself an HD Sony camera, but have no idea of how to get the same effect and range of tonal depth. Help!
It's very inspiring and would love to do something similar - I keep coming back to this video as it really transforms something that's fairly dull - walking down a road - into something magical. Great work!
@GodsLonelyMan666 Hey there, thanks for the nice comment :) The answer is actually pretty simple: "Get a 35mm adapter, the SGblade is a great option). This adapter allows you to use 35mm SLR lenses. With these lenses you can have a much more shallow depth of field (DOF) than with a normal video camera....
OR...
I would maybe reconsider the HD sony camera purchase, sell it and then buy a Canon EOS 550D DSLR camera.. Which is way more cheaper than a 35mm adapter... Your pick :P
I "have forgotten" how many times I've watched this video over the past year - I keep coming back to it. There's just something so indescribable about it, so honest and longing and moving yet so warm and calm - it's still completely sublime. You truly captured this song, it's so beautiful. Thank you.
PS Please finish the entire Red House Painters discography.
This is the most beautiful song I've head in a long long time. Nothing more authentic than to put the word "fuck" in a truly beautiful song. Amazing.....
it thought this was the official video :) but you made it yourself or what? wooooooow that's amazing, i wish i could do that to but i'm not really that talented :') and btw; your friends seem very nice guys to me ;)
As TheSpoovy commented, I also returned to this video and have to post again. I can't even remember whatt I said last time but this song is one of my ALL time favourite songs and this video is remarkable. You have found your calling. You MUST go into video in some way. You have a natural talent. This song and this video walk hand in hand, completely. Inspiring, my friend! Keep it up! ;)
i only have to say WOW! it is an amazing video indeed... you're gifted i wish i could do something like that someday, the way you captured every single, the beauty in the simplicity... congrats man... blessings.

this is a band i've just discovered...and the funniest twist is that this video was made in Norway which is the homeland of my fav band Kings of Convenience, and the country I really want to visit one day:) Beautiful song, lovely video guys, i wish i had some norwegian friends:)
I actually had to post again cos this gets better and better. You have a gift for cinematography and direction, bringing out the personalities of your subjects wonderfully, I feel like I know them after only 4mins! Really really great stuff.
