Wedge Antilles probably got the Distinguished Flying Cross out of it, while the Y wing survivor (Keyan Farlander) gets no glory at all.

In the novel, Luke talks with Biggs and a couple in the desert. At least Biggs wasa friend to the end. That couple sold out Luke to the Empire in more than one story.

@Thorg100 The death star had to recharge for 24 hours after every shot.

So they could have simply blown yavin to bits ((Which makes sense I mean the main planets explosion would probably destroy yavin 4 as well but....)) if it didn't work they couldn't shoot until enough power had built up again.

@The559California They were probably reserves or less experiences Pilots. Alliance Command probably realized how dangerous the mission was so they probably sent their most experienced pilots and even then, only 2 of the 30 made it back alive.

the work they did with the details is pretty amazing. Think about the models and the SOUND and the MUSIC! The sounds of the tie fighters and the lasers and chewbacca and Darth Vader is really good. Pretty strange(but awesome) that they dared to lay down so much work on this movie without knowing it would ever pay off!

@wantsvictory Consider the tech of the mid-70s, tho. Star Wars became the state of the art...far exceeding the typical effects of the day. For it's time, it was groundbreaking. The tech simply could not do what George wanted, which is why he redid it years later when the tech COULD do what he wanted.l

So much has been gleened, sampled, parodied, cliched, etc since this movie changed cinema forever, that to find someone has posted an original clip is heartening. As pure escapism this movie still takes the viewer away from things for a wee while. It's easy to be sarcastic & send this up but to be original like Lucas was will always be looked upon as genius to those in the know. xxx
