  • This actually brought a tear to my eye

  • I Remember the is song when i was in high school. Awesome. Why would you dislike this??

  • can't believe that this was written before i was born! feels straange! Such a beautiful song tho!!

  • I'm A Huge Comic Book Fan, It Was Horrible When Superman Died. It Was A Statement. I Don't Think It's Funny To See A Fat "Green Lantern".

  • ive always had a crush on brad roberts

  • this isnt a bad song overall! but i've heard better

  • @kunkler2011 lol bitch there is no better, go listen to ur fucking new age pop music homo

  • who else clicked the magic lamp to come here?

  • @fifi1o you shot me!

  • This song is very hard on Tarzan.

  • @thirteen3 He's a big lad that Tarzan and can look after himself,Bro'!! But, if I were him, I'd still thank you for caring!!

  • Nataly Dawn fans seem to be immature trolls.

  • Seriously everyone? "Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job"? That's horrible writing. This song is a bucket of puke.

  • @Steeveriffic y dont u make a better song about superman u ignorant fuck

  • Superman embodied the values of a bygone era, and the song makes his passing a metaphor for modern society's loss of those values. On a personal level we're reminded of childhood heroes diminished and forgotten with our own loss of innocence (as in Puff the Magic Dragon). There is despair over lost faith with its obvious religious overtones; but Superman is a secular hero, and this despair is also very much a lament on the ascendency of postmodern anomie and loss of faith in humanity itself.

  • Ellen Reid is the only reason I like this song.

  • i cant listen to his voice with out thinking any second hes going to break into "mmm mm mm"

  • This reminds me of "Funeral for a friend"...

  • Great, great song. CTD is more than mmm mmm mmm

  • A nice Winnipeg source. Very Sweet.

  • Love this song..although I like Natalys version better. It would be interesting to know what Brad Roberts thinks of her cover.

  • what a beautiful song

  • Let's all remember Christopher Reeves, Superman!!

  • One of the few songs that makes the hair onmy head stand up.

  • Oh, they're Marxist, or are they saying that charity is virtuous.

  • Honestly...703 thumbs up for "The Magic Lamp brought me here"? How dreadfully sad.

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 Why would that be sad, at all? This is an old song, and a popular, talented artist did an awesome cover of this classic, also awesome song. Dreadfully sad? I'd probably save that for something like child abuse or earthquakes, but ok.

  • Canada your music is awesome.

    Cheers from England. :)

  • @Bloodshotshatterbone When people from England are complementing your music you know it's awesome.

  • His voice is so... *sighs, smiles closes eyes*

  • I really love the choice of words for this song. This is exactly what is missing from todays music. Creative lyrics + melody + passion = 90s alternative.. How I miss it :o(

  • My social sudies teacher got me into this song today XD

  • Batman is the greatest superhero, he has money and all of the toys to go with it. GIVE ME TOYS!

  • @SuperMatchstickman he's not super, no super powers. i'd take superman's powers and use it selfishly

  • the magical lamp brought me here :D

  • I always thought that Lex Luther was Superman's archenemy, not Solomon Grundy.

  • @carewser Grundy rhymes better with "money"

  • "Hey Bob, Supe had a straight job. Even though he could have smashed through any bank in the United States. He had the strength but he would not."

That's my favorite line of the song. To me, that's what makes a super hero a real hero. It's not that he goes out and stops crime. It's that he doesn't abuse the incredible powers he's been given.

  • @foodlovingpig I love how wrote you that, I think every man's action should be put into perspective given the situation.

  • @foodlovingpig Those words, and the whole way the song is put together, very moving to me.

  • this was made a year superman's death in the comics.

  • I miss Linda hunter...

  • bellísimo tema

  • Okay, so the woman is Wonder Woman. The dude in green is probably Green Lantern, maybe Green Arrow. The guy in the red is some incarnation of Flash (there are so many). What about the yellow and blue guy? Who's that supposed to be? If anyone knows, it'd be great to hear from you.

  • @SpeedBoostFilms for a very brief time superman's colours were changed. and if memory serves his costume was yellow and blue. maybe the guy in yellow and blue is revised superman? just a theory....

  • I love this

  • i think both this song and nataly dawn's cover were really good, i see nataly's as something i would listen to maybe a little more often, because this one is kinda slower

  • Brad Roberts had you sympathizing with Superman after you heard this;that's how great of a voice he's got.

  • Because of all the comments, I went to check out this Nataly person I've never heard of. It was awful. Fucking hipsters ruin everything. I can't get over how terrible it was. I hope I never hear another one of her songs. Her voice is mediocre, and she managed to make the song boring as hell and lose all its feeling and soul.

  • @Buddy1306 I agree with you it was terrible. The original was way more deep and meaningful.

  • @Buddy1306 I am going to stop hanging onto the bandwagon and saying I "rather liked" Nataly's cover just so I wouldn't get run over by the cars driven by fans of Nataly's cover. Alright, here goes.

MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY. Her cover did not have half the melodic beauty CTD's version did; her voice has no strength or resonance; even the music video was obnoxiously...hipster-esque! For lack of a more fitting term.

For God's sake, Nataly, spell your first name correctly and use your goddamn surname!

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 she was really good though. She does an amazing job and her band is very good. Maybe a poor choice of song.. or maybe not. But in either event, it changes the entire feeling of the song.

  • @Buddy1306 Totally agree. Went to listen and only had to hear about 10 seconds to know it was crap.

  • Just wondering...why would anyone dislike this song? Or this version of the song, for that matter. The piano is beautiful, Roberts' voice is incredibly haunting...Like, if you're going to just go and say you think this song is bad, could you tell us why? By the way, even though I unquestionably prefer this version, I think Nataly's cover was very creative and reasonably enjoyable.

  • LOL @ the people liking this "natalie". Probably all 15 year old hipsters who live vicariously through imitation not creation. go play more laptop.

  • @AdamPhool Try harder.

  • What a ridiculous song. Nataly beat the hell outta this guy.

  • Awesome!!!!!!!

  • this is an incredible song!

  • Loving the magic lamp Nataly

  • Nataly wins, sorry :D

  • HAHAHAHA NATALY DAWN OWNS YOU

  • 00:46 - 00:55.. He is not wearing a costume under the suit :|

  • heyyyy

  • "I Tarzan, you Jane"

  • This dude's voice is so deep it makes me entirely uncomfortable lol

  • @thegreatNEb

Maybe it's about the actual Death of Superman... plus Clark Kent made money at the Daily Planet and Superman was never paid for the merchandise.

  • @ACE0HUNTER This song came out after the Death of Superman

  • @OhmgrownCron

I think you mean before? This song came out in 1991, the Death of Superman came out in 1993, though there was build-up to the story since Crisis on Infinite Earths in 1987... so make of that what you will.

  • Thumbs up if u had to listen to this for School!!!

  • I was sent by the magic lamp too!

  • So I just heard this guys vioce and I was like " has to be crash test dummies! " lol and then all I could think of was Mmm Mmm Mmm! HA HA HA

  • man what a weird videoclip...

  • This is lovely and sad. I once knew a Superman. And I do sometimes despair the world will never see another man like him :(

  • Always loved this song, but I have to admit... Nataly's version has won me over.

I swear, if that woman would sing the phonebook I'd listen.

  • @casanoverj I'd say the same thing more so about Brad Roberts, though I kind of agree with you too.

  • @casanoverj I did like Nataly's interpretation, but the original is better in my book.

  • Both his and Nataly's version are amazing!

  • Nataly said come so I did

  • aahhh the magic lamp lol, and the beautiful nataly dawn

  • I came here because my English Class had anylyzed the lyrics of it. ^_^

  • @HarukiMegumi And what was the conclusion?

  • @iveena Superman is active and honorable (Because he didn't break into any banks) while Tarzan was passive though he was entertaining. (The diffrence between Marvel and Disney.)

  • @HarukiMegumi Superman is DC comics, and they ripped off the original creators of Superman.

  • @OhmgrownCron Ah, I hadn't known that. Superman isn't exactly my generation or interest ^_^;; Though I never thought something as awesome as Marvel would steal, Other from legands like the Norse that they made Thor from though.

  • I came here because of Nataly's magic lamp!

  • I to came here by way of Nataly's magic lamp. There appear to be many of us.

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one who travels by magic lamp. Great song but I must confess it was Natalie Dawns cover that I heard first. Both versions are great.

  • The magic lamp sent me here.

  • @juanitaetpedro tu es bien rigolote juanita :)

  • @juanitaetpedro And that video is a lot better!!

  • @juanitaetpedro Me To!!! love those magic lamps

  • @juanitaetpedro Me too... heard the song plenty of times, but who can resist a magic lamp?

...or Nataly Dawn, for that matter. =)

  • His voice makes me smile. :D

  • I want this song playing at my funeral. Such a great song.

  • Brad is a so beautiful....

  • what do they have against Tarzan?

  • @capngeeoff actually, it's tied to comic book lore. at the time superman became the pioneer of superheo comics, most stories featured pirates, soldiers and mythological titles. tarzan actually had a comic at the time called tarzan king of the jungle. brad, who wrote the song, is a comic book junkie, and a huge superman fan, just like me. godspeed

  • this is fucking creeping ..did you know that this music video predates the infamous 'The Death of Superman' storyline!

  • A bittersweet deathknell to a different way of life.

Crash Test Dummies remain rare and wonderful.

Sometimes I despair the world will never see a band, like them, again...

  • wow, this is sad.

  • Who else could have ever written such a sensitive song about a comic book character. This song also really shines on a quality hi-fi system

  • is this about superman or tarzan?

  • @1andrewman1

It's about the evolution of super heroes from primitive to modern. From this premise the song first of all infers that Tarzan might exist because society keeps him in check, and even though Superman is superior, if he existed he would be jealous and probably jaded. It's the old vintage vs. new concept. The sky-scraper boasts unchecked power, but the giant and ancient tree, primitive it may be, reigns superior in the end because of its simplicity. My take anyways.

  • BEAUTIFUUUUUUUUUUUULLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!

  • in hindsight this reminds me of watchmen

  • @geeloof My god! I was just thinking the exact same thing! Totally spot on.

    ~X8

  • once there was a girl who had these spots all over her body, when they made her use the changing rooms, the kids saw all the spots on her body. she then had to explain that they'd always sort of beeeeeeeen theeere

  • this song is 1 of the most beautiful songs ever

  • одна из песен моего детства.

  • they know how to pound it

  • One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite groups. This group is so much more then MMM MMM MMM MMM.

  • i want to marry his voice :D

  • July 25 1991... my deceased brother of 20 years ago today requested their tape single..... I didn't have enough money to buy a CD at that time.. so I decided to surprise my bro 6 days after his 18th b day and buy the whole album on tape instead.. I qeued up the tape for him in his tape deck..to this song precisely as he asked.. I thought you don't have to pay me back either... to never have him return to me again.. R.I.P Bro.

  • Solomon Grundy to be in Batman: Arkham City.

  • i am in love with his voice :D

  • Superman still fights for truth and justice.

    Just NOT the American way.

    Do you blame him?

  • @nbelsky Darn right! The American way sucks!

  • Apparently Lex Luthor voted 68 times.

  • id have this song played at my funeral but im not worthy of it

  • @KantorekBaumerB14 Yeah that would be a bit indulgent.

  • @xXGhilliedxSamuraiXx i just like the song really and its the only really sad but also funny song that isnt a cheesy pile of shite that i can think of. obviously i wouldnt actually have it played at my funeral. or

  • Super heroes are fine, but only Thor is a God. ;)

  • Nice touch to have the video set at Superman's funeral. Haven't heard this since about 1996-ish. Glad I stumbled on it...

  • Crime also doesnt pay!WTF!

  • Has anyone noticed that all of these lyrics sound absolutely ridiculous over a serious violin tone?

  • @scaggs59 i think thats kind of the point

  • @scaggs59 I like to think of it as irony. There's this band I love called They Might Be Giants who often write dark or otherwise strange (and almost always ironic to some extent) lyrics over cascading pop melodies.

  • we all love Superman, dont we?

  • Always a good song to listen to...

  • We love this song, in fact we wrote a superman song ourselves. Please check it out and let us know what you think. It's called Superman's Lament by Deceptively Innocent. Thanks!

  • 66 people would have joined Tarzan in the jungle.

  • Crash Test Dummies really nearly bring tears to my eyes. I'm 17 and truly despise what most people my age enjoy, this is true music, not like Ke$ha and Asking Alexandria and Lil Wayne

  • Listen. This song is about religion. And the worship of heros. Superman is Jesus.

  • Listen. This song is about religion. And the worship of heros. Superman is Jesus.

  • what a sexy voice....

  • I remember when my mom used to listen to this while we took family road trips, I was about 4 or 5, I am now 15, you really never leave songs that were in ur childhood.

  • love this one

  • 66 people are former spokespersons for Aquaman.

  • @phishtrey OUTRAGEOUS!

  • I actually like this song... ;)

  • I LOVE this song, but don't u think it's a little unfair to compare Tarzan to Superman?

  • @DowntownBoyz17

    Thats the idea

  • Superman would have to be killed (or fake his own death) because mankind has to learn to solve its problems on its own. A being that powerful would be feared and resented by most of humanity, There is a reason that in all religions and mythologies (the two are the same, in my opinion), the God(s) always existed apart from mankind.

  • @IvanMtl When did mankind learn to solve its own problems?

  • I am 13 years old, I like the new songs they have, but I still consider this to be the most heartwarming and best song ever. I cry when i try to sing along <3

  • @GlassAintFull hey man if you're thirteen and you're listening to this good job buddy.

  • @GlassAintFull I'm 6, beat that!

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ Then why the fuck did you click on it?

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ get outta here

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ Your a fag..

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ why are you here

    fucking troll

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ Hahahahaha...I'm imagining a 7-year-old writing, "And sometimes I despair the world will never see another man like him." Really, I can't imagine a 7-year-old having such a sentiment, and if one did, s/he wouldn't put it in such a sophisticated way. XD

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 lol... not sure you why you seem to think thats an amazing sentance... honestly, the lyrics of this song are terrible, good job "superman never made any money" no shit. tarzan was an ape, w/e. lyrically, this song could have easily been written by an elementary student.

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ *sigh* I have no use for narrow-minded people like you. Just THINK about the song. Think about the point it's trying to make. Superman did all of this work voluntarily because he was such a good guy. So what if this comparison between Superman and Tarzan is obvious? It's insightful. If a 7-year-old wrote this song, one would think an adult assisted him/her copiously. You don't think so? Lol. By your logic, any song could have been written by a 7-year-old!

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 most songs easily could have been. obviously i get the concept, its blunt. on of the reasons why this song could have been written by achild... theres nothing to think about in the song. supermans such a good guy? hes a comic book hero, why are people crying and being touched by a song about comic book characters. i have no use for a song. listen to 'facing what consumes you', or 'straight to your face' by hatebreed, maybe you dont like the music, but lyrically, theyre great

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ Well, I personally am not touched so much by the lyrics, but the music does things to people. You can't tell me the music in this song isn't great. I like the contrast between the music, which makes the song sound like a funeral dirge, and the lyrics, which aren't haunting, but I consider them insightful. This song explains just how great Clark Kent was---he often wanted to quit, but his principles always kept him from doing so.

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ Alright...the lyrics to "Facing What Consumes You" were good enough, but the topic wasn't the most original. I believe if it were a song closer to the sort of genre I like, it would be fairly good overall.

I think a comparison of fictional characters is an original topic, even if it's not as interesting. I wonder yet---why do the singers feel the need to scream these lyrics? Surely, there's a better way to channel their rage, and they'll destroy their voices before they turn 40.

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 its just a more energetic way to express yourself. and its not about something stupid like superman never made any money, its a real subject.

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ I beg to differ that the subject matter of this song is not real. You just have to have a really open mind and dig deeper. But we shall agree to disagree because I suppose you just have different tastes than I and some other people. I can't imagine why, but that's how taste works.

  • @YourFaceWillDie468 fair enough. but i have to say, id take the subject matter of this song over any rap or hip-hop cluster fuck

  • @RESTxINxPIECEZ are you serious..? You're clearly not hearing what's actually being said in this song. It's not about superman.. that's just a clever cover so that people who can't see beyond what's right in front of them won't get wise too fast.

    no offense..

  • @GlassAintFull that is only your stupid hormones making you into a sad person. dont worry, you will grow out of this cry baby stuff and move onto real life situations worth crying over. no sense in crying over superman when your wondering how to pay for shit. your welcome

  • @ill7291 And your a stupid son of a bitch. I doubt you'll grow out of it. Your welcome.

  • @GlassAintFull Ill forgive you for that, im sure your raging hormones are making you a moody smartass. and when you said your welcome, its really supposed to be you're welcome. dont fret, you will learn that once you get past the 5th grade lol.

  • @ill7291 Oh? Congratulations on making it past fifth grade in-between when you posted that and your first comment then. Don't fret, you'll learn the rest of where to put apostrophes in grade 6.

  • @GlassAintFull haha, Im glad I could teach you a new word,"fret". lol im an adult and have knowledge that surpasses your own so your stupid comments are just funny to me. You would be cute on "Kids Say The Darndest Things", but im sure you are too ugly to be on t.v. and you're so young that you dont even know what im talking about.
