@zcxvasdfqwer1234 Dude it clearly says at the description: "Please note that this is a simulation which shows the creative possibilities."
If you look at the banners @ 1:24, they all appear to be 100% SOLID...whether if they were in fact frontal projections over the building's facade, they would have a certain transparency to them and you would be able to see the architectural detail of the wall trough them. Light isn't a solid, therefore if can't block the view of something being lit by it.
This would bring Times Square to the next level. They did something like this with lights to Philadelphia's City Hall a few Christmas's ago. It wasn't animated, but the projections traced the building.
@fielmaso The author clearly stated it at the description by saying: "Please note that this is a simulation which shows the creative possibilities."

They don't actually say this is real live projection, I think it's from their pitch (ie mockups for client before the event) because the real projections are shown on their channel marked "Live performance" and they are not nearly as slick-looking. In this version, nobody walking past the cathedral stopped to watch - which in real life, they sure do when something like this happens. Undermines peoples confidence in the technique to infer this is real, though. Stick with live camera versions!
This is so real :) believe me...they make a background of the building and add some maya/3dmax 3dart on it and then project it on different angels, very cool done ofcourse with the best hardware availeble :P
Now there's a major question to people who say this "is real" -- have you ever tried to do light projections yourself?
If you project a white circle on a non-white building what you get is a lighted spot on the building. If you project a "blue ball" on the building -- what you get is a significantly less lighted spot on the building -- there's no way you can project a shaded blue ball on a non-white background with an RGB light projector as in 0:16
Pretty sure this is real to anyone saying it isn't. It's wonderful use of size and shadow orientation to fool the human brain into thinking it isn't. They use the fact that the building is already fully shadowed to their advantage and stop projecting light in certain areas to create amazing effects. If it isn't real, it's totally possible.
The 3d 'projection' on this video looks quite different to the projection they show on the website. On the website it looks like it actually could have come from projectors.. on this video it looks much more like post-production.
very suspicious indeed. spectators seem too uninterested and also if you stop the frame on 2:14 the projection goes outside the canvas and projects on the sky -- what the heck?
the same video from different angles doesn't tell a thing. if you have built a 3D model for this it's not a big thing to do the tracking from two angles.
i dunno if the video may have been enhanced in post. but it's not fake. if you actually check out the web page displayed there's another vid with projection viewed at other angles. and in that vid you can actually tell a lot more that it's projection.
Gah, I want to believe it but the more times i watch it the less convinced I become. If you look at the giant banners flapping at 1:25 they look really smooth and consistent, yet the materials underneath them (particularly the boundary between the stone and multi pane windows) would reflect the light in drastically different ways that you just can't compensate for with a projector.
I think this is some prototype work showing off what they hope to achieve. Still fun to watch regardless
Surely fake, the light reflects uniformly on all the surfaces. Notice windows. It's only lighten or overlay effect in software. Birds are artifical, too.
Totally a fake, the people walking by dont even stop for a moment to observe, ya know, if I saw somethin that amazing i would stop at least for few minutes....
Fake, as you can see at 1:39 where the yellow blurry thing also covers the people in the front, the effects have been added later. Looks cool though :D
surely that proves it's not fake. If it was done afterwards they could have easily made sure the blurry light went behind the people rather than other them, which is what would happen if they were in the way of the projection.
Fantastic. The skeptic in me thinks that this is a mock-up demo of a possible technology. The comment does not say that these ARE being projected. Only that they WILL be.
Nice but unfortunately it is a fake superimposed animation. see at 1:03 the white balls are visible outside the bldg! but the effects dont stay registered with proxy geometry, so the camera has to be exactly at the projector (there would be occlusion shadows of the columns due to parallax between camera and projector) 2:06 .. Any illumination creates secondary scattering and global illumination. This would be visible on street and neighboring buildings. This is missing.

Totally fake. No projector is able to give out that much high def yet, especially when its still light out !!!!!
Further more that kind of projection is bound to attract more than two spectators.

A cinema projector could.
But you're probably right about the spectators :-/
Nice concept, though...
