Blackmore has always been a genius - who is quite mad. This version actually makes a lot of sense. And with Gillan unable to get anywhere near those high notes anymore, having a female vocalist for this song maked much sense. I like it!
Is it possible for people to just listen to/watch these videos without creating an argument out of it? Let's just sit back, listen to the music, and go back in time to the old days. Relax.
@mincemeat99 how can this be a cover when richie blackmore made it??!! yes he made it for Deep purple but he made it and he is playing here!!Blackmore*s night is SO good music!!!
I think this is an awesome cover.. really nice guitar job at the beginning .. and plz guys stop comparing covers with the originals.. if you really don't want to hear something new just stick to the originals forever.
THE ARRANGEMENT,THE FEMALE VOICES AND OF COURSE RITCHIES BEAUTIFUL GUITAR .
IT IS NOT AND IS NOT SUPPOSED TO BE 1972 DEEP PURPLE.
I HAVE SPENT 35 YEARS LISTENING TO DEEP PURPLE,AND I AM RITCHIES GREATEST FAN AND THIS IS A GREAT VERSION-THAT DOES NOT MEAN I DON'T LIKE DEEP PURPLES VERSION ANYMORE.
HOWEVER I DON'T REALLY LIKE THE MOND TANZ OUTRO-I THINK IT SPOILS IT.
THE ORIGINAL MOND TANZ WAS A GREAT SONG THEY HAVE MILKED IT DOWN!!
Ritchie (like many from his former colleagues) has got his ears in saturation after decades shooting thousands of watts with Deep Purple, so the sly man - modern bard - got his "buen retiro" amongst beautiful handmaids and naiads playing sweet music and enjoying baccanales in fairy location.
What complements Candice's voice and makes it sound more angelic are the equally angelic voices of "Sisters of the Moon" Madeliene and Nancy. They have a true gift and I wish they would perform more. They can stand on their own. With voices like that they have to be classically trained or truly gifted. They are equally as awesome to look at as Candice. All three on stage are a feast for the eyes.
What a song - ... --- ... --- ... really great tune from yester-years..brought back to TODAY ; ; ; ; Candice n Ritchie Blackmore !!!!!! more more more!!!!
I think Ritchie is just indulging the little lady. If him and Ian Gillan can never make it up, maybe he should give Tim Ripper Owens a call when Yngwie has finished with him.
Candice could bring them both cups of tea and hob-nobs like a good little housewife.
Well, it's a bit like hearing Metallica sung by Britney Spears. Come to think of it, she covered Joan Jett's I Love Rock 'n Roll and it was so lightweight it nearly floated away.
No.
Get Tim Ripper Owens in I say and let Candice bake them both some nice cakes.
Oh, absolutely. I mean Candice can sing and I think the song "Locked Within The Crystall Ball" is actually quite good. But that was written for her to sing.
Hearing her sing Deep Purple just sounds wrong to me. But if some people like it then that's just fine by me.
Hell, this is crap. Blackmore might be genius at the guitar but with this version he ruined a great song. Candice has a good voice and is a good singer but she doesn't sing the song with the passion, Ian Gillan had.
And one more thing: the ending sound of the twins is wonderfully found out. (and sung).
It is a very good arrangement of the original.
The mediavel folk part is really not necessary framework, but the contrast is good: first the bad, then the good. After a bit suffer, the good is even better.
Well having been lucky enough to have seen Purple 71/72 and Blackmore's Night all i can say for pure power and making your ears bleed it was Mr Gillan & Mr Blackmore coming at u at 10,000 watts. Blackmore's Night i have to say Ritchie is playing far better technical guitar and a joy to see and hear. Theres always a special cheer when Rithchie picks up the Strat, he then taunts the crowd by putting it back down. Before treating the crowd to Black Night or Smoke on the Water.
Both are good arrangements in their own right but you cant seriously compare them. The lyrics are too masculine to be sung with a female voice. There's no weight behind them.
Common, guys. It's not that bad. Well, except for the "folk" part :) Who's really great in this one are Maddy and Nancy Posner - Sisters of the Moon. They are simply amazing. Too bad for Ritchie that they left the band.
Totally agree. I'm a Blackmore fan - and Gillan is my favourite singer (the young One), yet I say it is not bad, no problem with Candice. Moreover: it is catarthic (at 3:32) Thanks to the twins.
Anyway, I'm glad that Ritchie probably likes this hit so much that He put it into the repertoir of BN. The only from Deep Purple. (Smoke on and Black Night are only bonuses.)
Very true. Plus I'm not that crazy about an acoustic arrangement. Compare that to the heavy metal prog rock of the DP version and there's no question as to which music is better and more interesting.
I loce both this and the Ian G. band version! Both are great and i respect both musicians as well as all the other impressive and tallented DP musicians!

IAN GILLAN is the ONLY man who can sing this lyric persuasively.
Candise's vocalization is a little LIGHT.
Originally, this lyric contains much more HEAVY or SERIOUS matter.
