How in the hell do I get rid of this stupid name. I just joined, This song reminds me of driving my 1980 Z-28. The 80's were so cool, U was 20 something,
It seems like Ric Ocasek is mocking his guitarist with his air guitaring! It's like the guitarist is thinking "Alright!I'm gonna lock cool with my bad ass guitar riff!"and Ocasek's making fun of him by air guitaring behind him!"Check me out!My air guitar is way cooler than his real guitar playing! That's why the supermodel in this video will eventually marry me!"
I love the way this says Vh1 "Classic". When this video was new all the ones they called "classic" were old 60's vids, mostly black and white and poor quality. This still looks as crisp as it was when it first aired. Who ever thought that the 80's would be 'old'??? I mean, it was so new and slick looking when we were there!!....Getting old sucks!...
That has to be one of the classic guitar solos. It's as catchy as the one in Steely Dan's Reeling In The Years and both are a couple of my favorites....
@THECARS7879 that's very true, if that idiot knew any better, he'd think before opening and retarded and unintelligent mouth because they've had five hands of hits atleast
@fukutube75 I love this comment as much as I loved the 80s aaaaah good times. Almost as good as the head that I got at that party during my round! Siiiigh im only 20.
I like this... it's deceptively upbeat, but has kind of melancholic harmonies. That synth pipeflute or whatever is almost sad. Lie the music, not just he lyrics, is excited but caries with it a subtext that she's coming, but she'll be gone.
Why didn't the KitH ever do a skit of The Cars with Kevin McDonald in the lead? They could have just straight up remade the video and it would have been one of the funnies things.
Elliot Easton is so frickin HOT!! His solo is sublime... 1:45 .. I just want to go into pretend land, back to the 1980's, and have a do over and meet him! At 1:52 Elliot is making a bad a@@ cute face..... Why can't we all stay young?
Rock On Elliot! (I have a crush on a lead guitar player)
I agree this song is great w/ a kick butt guitar solo. They were big back when I was a kid 70's.....early to mid 80's. I think there underrated wrongly because the lyrics may be considered simple. But they make any song really intense deep. To bad for the late Benjamin Oar, I guess only the good die young.
I could listen to his solo over and over again....
I love the beginning of this song. "Strap Me In" has a very similar intro, but I like how they used the guys pretending to play those classical instruments.
Great song, however the video always felt chopped together. It looked like Ocasek was on a different stage than the rest of the band. Perhaps it was because this was a bonus track on a Greatest Hits collection.
The Cars were well know for their (at the time) ground breaking videos, however sometimes the good music gets forgotten.
Isn't it funny the way they would use analogies to represent sex back in those days; The guys lighting the "firecracker" while the woman rides the firecracker. Am I the only one that thought that was so obvious?
Now days, they would sing about where, when and how they did it and also show you every aspect of the act. No wonder everything is upside down.
The people who dislike this video are pro-war idiots who support Obama's borrowing money from China and spending billions in U.S. tax dollars to invade and brutally occupy sovereign nations in the middle east, creating more deficit, more enemies and acting as an imperialist Hitler type when the money should be spent to create new jobs and help our own people while bringing home the troops and putting them to work protecting Americans on U.S. soil. Ric Ocasek for President 2012
First time I ever saw this version. Easton sounds just like Dave Davies here, how he makes those sounds come out of that guitar is beyond me. So freaking 1980s (where's Max Headroom?) but I can play this all day.
I listened to this song religiously when I had a huge crush on a girl in choir back in high school. I'd listen to this and envision myself having the balls to even talk to to her. Good times. She even married a dude who almost looks like me. Maybe I had a chance. Oh well. Haha.
i remember drivin 600 miles to see my girlfriend when this song was out. listened to it alot loved it then love it now after marrying that same girl. brings back alot of good memories.
How come my coment didnt get posted. If someone is erasing them just cause I love the 80's then stop fucking doing it. Im an 80's song lover and 80's style lover to so back the fuck off justin bieber fans.
Maybe this song was the band group Aha's inspired song upon making Take on Me. Cause I heard their very first record of the song and the beat is just like this song. Just an speculations. Aha is one of my favorite band and Take On Me is my no.1 top list among my favorites.
Used to sing a long to the "tape" in the car full blast. My daughter, probably 4 or 5 used to love it. Probably why at 28 she has great taste in music
when new wave was young couldnt match the cars there 1st vinyl was like a greatest hits still so simplistic but true!! new england ruled usa in that era
I love the fact that this band didn't go all multiracial and throw in the obilgatory black in thier videos----I know in the 80's the whole forced multiracial thing was already in full swing with blacks in most commercials, etc. Now don't call me "hater" and all that--------it's just that they kept it white and that inherently made it better.
