Also on harmony chorus vocals: Dewey Bunnell and Gerry Beckley from "America", Joseph Williams, lead singer in Toto and Jay Gruska who was in 3 Dog Night.
Sorry ..the song SP sings with Clannad (irish group) is called White Fool. He does sing some lines in Gaelic too...Get the lyrics before you listen to it and follow it...its AMAZING....thanks SP
There's no denying Steve Perry is a very talented guy, but Journey was already an awesome band before he joined. They simply became a different band once he came aboard. They did some really good stuff with him. And to the uneducated out there: Barnes & Barnes didn't need Perry to make them cool, they already were. It was being on a Barnes & Barnes track that boosted Perry's cred. As I understand, they were all acquaintances, coming from the same area. ... yeahhhh.... :)
Jorney was dropped from their label and on a road to nowhere when they found Steve Perry and Steve catapaulted Journey to fame because of Steve Perry! Funny how some people choose to ignore this fact!!
There is no evidence to suggest that Columbia had dropped them, or was even considering it. By all accounts, Columbia suggested they get a lead singer/frontman. The old fans were not too receptive and Fleischman was out.
By the time Perry was drafted there were a new generation of fans ready to appreciate the new direction that the band had already chosen. Their considerable chops allowed for a very smooth transition. The only difference is whether one likes "jazzy prog" or "pop hits".
Funny how some people alter the facts to support their viewpoints.
Journey was not dropped from their label. Columbia told them "get a singer or you're dropped" (per many interviews, including Herbie Herbert). And Perry did NOT catapult Journey to stardom -- Infinity was not an instant success, the band already had a big following prior to that, and it still took a lot of hard work to hit the level of Escape. *Everyone* worked hard for that success.
Meh, Perry didn't need Barnes & Barnes to boost HIS cred (come on, he was lead singer of freakin' JOURNEY at that point), and Barnes & Barnes didn't need him to boost theirs.
That's pretty much what I was saying. Barnes & Barnes are ultracool, but for entirely different reasons than one would consider Perry-era Journey to be cool.
What makes the track work so well for me is that in the middle of this cute, played-straight little ditty, there suddenly appears this unmistakable and very famous tenor. The combination results in a great atmosphere. Almost commercial (if that's not a dirty word).
I'd say Art and Artie are a lot more special than Steve Perry (what's he done for us lately, by the way.) Their albums hold up a hell of a lot better than Journey's.
Steve Perry doesn't record music anymore because he is 59 years old, he's tired, and he's enjoying life out of the spotlight. Oh, and by the way, how many people have even heard of Barnes & Barnes? I looked them up earlier today, there is hardly anything about them on the internet. I'd like to see Art and Artie sell 80 million albums.
Barnes and Barnes are in Steve's age group and aren't tired. Neither of them was blessed with a voice like Steve's but in terms of creativity there is no contest. Maybe you don't know that Art Barnes is Billy Mumy, famous for "Lost in
Space" and being an accomplished actor/musician. Robert Haimer is one of the most unique talents in pop music I've encountered since discovering the Beatles in 1964. The Steve Perry-led Journey was packaged for mass consumption; don't care about album sales.
Well, Artie, I think you would have brought more of an edge to the Will character. Would have not taken so much crap from that pretentious, old Dr. Smith.
Are you kidding? Hold up better than Journey, I never even heard of them until this moment, looking for Steve Perry! Kind of a cool song though. But obviously they thought Steve was awesome to invite to sing background.
Frank Zappa reference.) There are lots of great bands that you probably never heard of.
The Fugs. The Plugz. The Chesterfield Kings.
Van Der Graaf Generator. The Dictators. The Stranglers. If you really have a love of music, you will check them out. Journey is the McDonald's of rock. BARNES AND BARNES rule!!
Journey music is underrated because most people have only heard their more commercial music such as the great power ballads. However, there is more to Journey than the stuff you call packaged for mass consumption. Steve Perry is one of the greatest rock vocalist of all time. Check out some of their less well known music before you label.Type in "Journey Neil Schon Luther Allison Albert King 1978" for just a taste, there similar related vids as well. I am willing to be educated, are you?
I was quite aware of Journey long before Steve Perry joined. They were actually an offshoot of Santana, led by Neil Schon and
Greg Rolie, and were considered somewhat progressive. Of course, they didn't take off
until Perry took over lead vocals. The music they made with Perry certainly has its merits, but I still consider it commercial and geared towards MTV marketing and mass
appeal. (By the way, the video for "Separate Ways" has to be one of the worst ever.)
You Hit The Nail Right On The Head . First Of All I Don't Care What People Say Without Steve Perry Journey Would Not Have 18 Top 40 Hits . Second Journey Had Alot Of Great Songs That Were Not Hits Just Like You Said I've Got A Incredible Collect To Prove That . Example Message Of Love ,One More , Forever In Blue , When I Think Of You , Easy To Fall, It's Just The Rain Off The Trial By Fire CD Were All Great Songs But Only When You Love A Woman Was A Hit . Thanks For Pointing That Out !!!
You are very welcome, Perry friend! Steve Perry is one of the best singers ever to hold a microphone. I am sure hoping for something new from him soon.
Yuck....it would have been fine if all you heard was Steve Perry singing....He must have been doing charity work or something...I read this album was originally released in 1984 and then re-released in 2005?? His voice sounded different...

ARt and Artie should have taken Steve's place in Journey. Then could finally have made some money.
