For clever and unscrupulous people religion is a powerful tool that can be used to control and manipulate others and as convenient cover for their own greed. For the ignorant (the manipulated) religion is a motivation and justification for the horrible things they are being tricked into doing, things they would almost certainly not be willing to do otherwise. Religion isn't the only institution that can be exploited this way but it is the most powerful.
If we the people allow it, the evangelicals will rot this country from the inside out. Throughout history, wide spread religion is usually never a good thing.
Religion is 80% politics & 20% the belief in outdated myths, religion has always & still does use those outdated myths to control the gullible, the misguided & the uneducated.
@bdjoh011 No. Not even close. First of all, Justinian was an intelligent man instead of just LOOKING like an intelligent man. @fl333r As long as a campaigning army in the late antiquity kept winning the Morale of Army would remain remarkably high, because the alternative to face this army, to live in squalor and misery and to miss out on all the plunder they could gain, would simply add up to a very easy decision. Besides in Antiquity, when the victor showed mercy on the defeated in their disgraced state, they became honor bound to serve him, in order to repay their debt.

No, more people BY THE MILLIONS have been killed in this century alone than by wars of religion throughout all of history. This is an age old lie against religion, and against the Catholic faith in particular.
That is an outright lie. Almost all wars for the last 2000s years, including those we have now, had/have a religious cause. This is, of course, not just by/for one religion but just about all of them. Without religion there would have been less wars but they would occur no matter what. The problem with religion is its intolerance to anyone but themselves.
Yeah.. Jesus is cool, but people have made a religion centered on someone who was completely and totally against religion. And people use this religion is as a political strategy to commit some of the most heinous and terrible actions, which are completely against everything that Jesus preached and stood for.
@55atras HAHAHA. Good one. I never claimed i was peaceful. I will destroy and annihilate anyone and anything that gets in my way! I just don't use the cloak of a "god" to excuse it.
@55atras Religion is a control mechanisim to get people to agree to your ideals... It not religion that causes the wars, religions is only tool to get the population support. Now yes the world would be better without it since there would be less justification to taking human life but there would STILL BE WAR.
@UnderDog988 Of course there would still be war. It is who and what we are! It is in our nature to destroy ourselves, and everything around us. It is how and why we are top predator. There will never be world peace, and all types of societies and cultures will continue to see violence. Religion just increases it even more.
@55atras um no our nature is not to destroy ourselves, are nature is to dominate each other. We want to better then one and other. More beautiful, smarter, stronger, more powerful, etc. Witch creates straine and make us fight amoung each other.
@55atras Wars and torture would have concured with or without religion. Religion is just what greed has hid behind...could just as well be anything else. Religion in it self is not bad, coruption is.
@jacobfad But isn't that the point? that religion is the problem because its used for corruption, although it may not naturally be a moral problem, it has become one whether its liked or not.
@jacobfad Religion was a good thing for greed to hide behind though because no one could prove or disprove there was a God. It was the corrupt who said they personally talked to the divine and if you dont listen to me ill kill you. Sounds kinda like our modern day politicians minus the killing.
@aa3gunner HMMM....As of yet, I have yet to be judged by an Atheist on my lifestyle. Religious people, however, always seem to think they are right and I am wrong. Also, during Hitler's fascict regime, the CHURCH backed him up!
@aa3gunner You just proved my point. Hitler used religion to kill people, and the Church backed him up! So again, FUCKING RELIGION. MORE WARS HAVE BEEN STARTED AND MORE PEOPLE HAVE BEEN TORTURED AND KILLED IN THE NAME OF RELIGION.
This is completely fucked. I mean who gives a shit about fucking Rome. Just get to the fucking point u dicks. By the way you r speaking as if the west is hell, its not u fuckwits go eat hairy chode u butthoarders.
it's just truly phenomenal how we have come to know about all this. I wonder how so much information was found throughout all these years its just too hard to fathom
Religion no matter what religion now shouldn't even be considered if you're educated. If you believe in the bible, torah, etc (whatever the hell religion you are) over evolution and science, you need help.
@stayeducated1 It's funny that you think you're somehow superior to religious people. You believe in the theory of evolution because you were taught to do so, just like religious people are taught to believe in God. There really isn't a big difference between your theory and theirs.
@stayeducated1 That view is something many of us would call downright ignorant. you see in reality it was never religion it self that caused the problems. it was people thinking that others are inferior for whatever reason. also if you are such a avid believer of evolution then how do you explain changes in the number of chromosomes in the process of evolution>? thus far as science has observed, such drastic changes cause delibating effects. ex in humans an extra chromosome causes down syndrome.
@roniepao Well if religion wasn't against science I would consider it, but in the old testament in the bible, or the torah, or quran most of the things that happen aren't possible. Unless you consider them moral stories? I never said that the big bang theory is 100% correct, it just fits better than most religions... If you have an argument for me, I'd be more than willing to listen. I'm not narrow minded, I've been looking for the meaning of life and why we're here for a while.
@stayeducated1 rational words, stayeducated1. A lot of things in the Bible are credited as miracles, which are admittedly not possible by the laws of the world we live in. Its hard to believe the earth is 4000 years old, as usher's chronology asserts, so world probably wasn't literally created in 7 days, but I'm not opposed to God (a supernatural force) starting things with a big bang (science has a lot of evidence for it). Science disproves literal interpretation in my opinion.
just because we count from 0 to 10 doesnt mean numbers came from 0. 0 cant do anything because its zero. haha. to produce number, we need a source of number. and that number is infinity.
@stayeducated1 religion against science? It was the Judeo-Christian value system that inspired the rapid advancements in the arts and sciences during the Renaissance (and allowed the West to catch up to the East) and encouraged the hard work and free trade values that fueled the Industrial Revolution. If anything, it was "religion" with the right value system that encouraged the creation of modern society.
This documentary dedicates in all about 18,00 minutes to the one of the greatest men that ever lived Justinian I. The Americans or Brits never released a movie about his life, or even a full length documentary. It is shamefull ?
This isn't that atheist, for I personally am a Catholic and believe in and follow God, but Clovis for example, was not a real Christian, and what they say is quite accurate. During the dark ages the Catholic Church was greatly distorted, nothing like today. And even now, in some parts of the world their are countless corrupt priests. So don't blame the Church of documentary, blame the individuals who failed
Seriously, stop bitching about religion. I'm sure that at least half of you have no idea what you're talking about. Go read a book or something, try to look at both sides of the argument, then come back with a better appreciation for each person's viewpoint. Until you have the sense to do that, just shut up! It isn't that hard to get along.
Approval ratings? waterfront property? Catholicism... as ooposed to what? The Protestant Reformation isn't for another millenium yet. Fuck, the Eat-West Schism isn't for another 500 years yet. This documentary is insultingly simple and one-dimensional. All this from the "history" network that brings you Ice Road Truckers and Pawn Stars. SO NOT SERIOUS LOL
The Romans wanted to reclaim their empire. They should have tried to start over, taking new territory slowly. Also not oppress the people, then the barbarians would have viewed them as liberators.
I believe that people posting on this video don't know what they are talking about. As culture becomes more diverse the History Channel makes an attempt to not only be accurate but to provide History from various points of view. But apparently some noob on the internet knows more about History than Professors and Scholors. My bad. And too damn bad if you don't like God and Jesus. Go be atheist somewhere else. The Majority of Historical events revolve around Christianity or other religion.
"Hands in boiling water" "Sinking For God" "Throwing Out The Justice System" and you religous people want to bring god back, you people crack me up. XD
@Socoolscienceshow The fact that you would even post this is absurd. Your posting this shows everyone exactly how insecure you are. I generally don't care what religion people are and I don't truly care if someone is atheist or agnostic. What I do care about is why people have to be so damn ignorant.
@Imperialv5 The fact that you would even post THIS is ABSURB!!! You pointless unevovled barely concious pondscum religous person totally convinced of your own superiority bcuz of 1 book written 2000 years ago. You religous idiots dont matter, you NEVER did matter!!! In fact in a couple hundred years you wont even be matter. Fire and Water yes yes we all know about those but did you know there was also the ordeal by cake where you had to eat a peace of cake without choking if you managed it you were innocent.
Quick estimential fact: Humany would have gotten on the moon 300 years ago, if it wasn't for christianity. Morale of this story? Believe in god as much as you like ( I do)
Jesus Christ himself hated organised religion ( I do too)- a government needs to be based on political strategies, advance of science and economical laws and rules, not freakin' faith -.-
@Diamondhide1994 Hey, agreed. I'm no Christian, but Jesus is the MAN. And all those scumbags that took Christianity ( and any other organised religion) and used it in exactly the way Christ certainly wouldn't, frankly disgust me.
i think we arent giving clovis enough credit. his ordeals were intended to fuck with his victims. they voluntarily tortured themselves to within an inch of their lives until clovis was satisfied.
they admited that the davincie code was a lie, they said"according to the davinci code clamed cloves was protecting christs bloodline, but that wasnt it at all "
@mnytaful did u even watch the vid, u didnt even get the point of the whole vid, clovis was a pagan, who used christianity as a political move, he wasnt a christian, he was a pagan decised as a christian, like hitler, and most of the american presidents from the 1930s to present time, most of christianity is more or less pagan rituals, iv seen alot of paganism in the churches, but thats cus christianity is so powerfull that its a threat to the pagans,so they infultrate and preach paganism+christ
@mnytaful Pay attention to one significant matter! What was Christianity at the beginning, what happened to the first Christians? Now Islam. From the very first moment it was created, islam conquered, plundered and assimilated. Only later became Christianity a tool in the hands of greedy. Although it's controversial sometimes, the basic idea of Christianity differed very much from what the kings and leaders turned it into.
It seems your knowledge about Islam comes from Pastor Terry Jones... One question to you, only 1 question then use your brain... If Islam is like what Terry Jones and you and people like you saying, then the question is: How come each fourth person on this planet is a Muslim? Go and do some thing about the darkness you living in... Ignorance is an epidemic.
@mnytaful Bla, bla, bla... ignorance.. bla, bla, bla. Islamic immigration is epidemic. Who is pastor Terry Jones? I don't need others to tell me what I can read. It's hard to hide an obvious truth, but easy to ignore it, if you want to. I bet you think stoning to death is western propaganda. Darkness of mind is bliss! It's pointless to argue. You won't change my point of view and I won't change yours.
I give damn fuck to all religions, first of all Islam and then the other ones, ALL of them... For me they are epidemic all... My point of view is to prevent hate, after all we all are humans... Just imagine how many people were are and will be killed because of fucking bloody religions, just imagine how many people living in misery because of religion... Right?
@mnytaful Religion can fuck up a person pretty much, it must be kept out of state affairs. It's the people that use it as tools for power. Luckily, Christianity has changed, at least many Christians have. I do not deny God, I believe in God, but I would never follow anyone who would say to harm others in the name of God. There is one thing about islam though. If Christianity is just sort of plain religion, then Islam is more - it's a system, both military and political, a totalitarian one.
@mnytaful I agree about that faith should be sort of an intimate matter of every individual. Once you raise it above masses in a form of ultimate law, it becomes dangerous in the hands of fanatics. All things have extremes, even faith to God.
@mnytaful yes right!! without religion humanity would be far more united and far more advanced- there would less hate,no silly scientifically unfounded superstitions, and less war waged in the name of getting others to live by your beliefs and not thier own-still i hate to admit that eradicating religion wouldnt completly free us of these things-but it be a hell of great start!!
With each year, the History Channel becomes a little more dumbed down, a little more Christian, a little more pseudo, and a little less authentic history. For the most part this is a good documentary, but it also contains a few historical inaccuracies, bits of bias, and it advertises "2012 The End of the World" which is the new Y2K. The History Channel should not even be allowed to keep it's name anymore, this was a long time ago, now it is all reality shows and pseudo crap about ghosts and UFOs
I also find that American cowboy historian with the short white beard absolutely insufferable. Every documentary he is in, he can not help but throw out stupid folksy sayings and personal opinions as history.
Agreed. I stopped watching History Channel when History Channel stopped playing history. My High School history classes were more educational, and they were taught by coaches who didn't even really care about the subject.
I wouldn't say HC has become more Christian, more like it's more interested in Christian and/or religious conspiracies. Any conspiracy, really. Reminds me of chip bags....they stuff more air than chips. More dramatic fluff than actual information.
@RocktheSocks No its intrested in smearing Chrisitanity hence it regurgitating crappy myths about the middle ages that are mere protestant/English propaganda and crap about the Popes which is inanely ludicrous and factually false. Black legend Davinci code etc.
@Valmarith Bullshit the history isn't Christian its far from it and mindlessly regurgitating your leftist bullshit is not history moron. Typivcal whining from an ignorant one. The HC's anti-chrisitan love of bs "history" whether seamring the catholic chrch to bsing about the crusades which was all propaganda crap.
I'm of like mind in regards to HC becoming more anti-christian. However, I don't really think that cussing out anyone who defends them is the best way to go about making that point. Especially if you can't even spell your insults correctly.
If you want to make an argument, do it right. . If you mindlessly regurgitate conservative BS, they're just going to regurgitate leftist BS right back at you. Give examples. Show how HC is exaggerating or manipulating facts. Do something.
@deltapunk21 In my country I am considered more of a conservative than a leftist, but you are probably one of those overly politicized black and white thinking right winged American Christians I hear so much about. The History Channel often presents a strong Christian bias, it even has religious specials that present Christian religious propaganda as historical fact. They constantly air shows like 'The Next Anti-Christ' and other such nonsense. But not all history reflects well on your religion.
@Valmarith I agree with you. The History Channel used to have documentaries and shows dealing with real history, but now it's all about 2012, UFOs, Bible Code, Nostradamus, and that god awful Ice Road Trucker nonsense. Where are the shows that actually pertain to history? I can't believe that the History Channel is leading people to believe that ancient aliens assisted in building the Egyptian pyramids, or that secret codes in the Bible can predict the future.
@xxblodlustxx The fact of the matter is that its about entertainment...viewers....wealth. Most Americans aren't very bright, they wanna watch stupid shit, white trash shit, anti-intellectualism. Drive around this country, its pretty embarrassing.
@RomanWildernesOfPain It's not so much America, I think, than humanity in general. Most people are simply idiots. Though thre are a few bright people here and there, I believe that most people are quite stupid, and if not that, ignorant. Though it is true America, especially its culture, has declined. I mean, what happened. This nation was founded be geniuses and Rennaisance men during the Enlightenment. Where did it all go wrong?
@xxblodlustxx ya :/ This is what should be on the history channel all day everyday. I want to learn about history, not how slippery roads are when they are wet.
@Valmarith 100% agree with you History Channel needs to be renamed "Pseudoscience Channel" I mean what the fuck does Ancient Aliens & the Notradaumus Effect have to do with history? 90% of the shows on History Channel have nothing to do with history and everything to do with God, Jesus & Pissing all over science! When educational channels start to preach, god, jesus and pseudoscience we slowly slip backwards into the Dark Ages. I feel sorry for our decendents who will relive this video.
@Valmarith What historical inaccuracies are in the documentary? Also, I hope someone with your historical expertise is not so naive as to believe that history is unbiased. Studying the civil war in the north is different than studying it in the south. I have nothing against history, I minored in history, just the thought that there is unbiased history. "Pseudo crap"? "Ghosts and UFOs"? Did you even watch the documentary?
@Valmarith so, "a little more Christian," is a bad thing. well i guess so. if you say so. you must know what you are talking about. i mean, really, how can Christianity be any good to anyone at all? it can't possibly, can it? nothing good was ever done by Jesus or any of his followers throughout history to this day and probably beyond. not one good deed. ever.
my God you are a numb nut fool.
other than that, you are pretty well right on about the history channel.
@magedogtag well, it is a bad thing if its creating more of a bias towards christianity, than any other religion... christianity has obviously left its mark in history, and should be documented as such, but it shouldnt affect the point of view given by documentaries of the history channel.

@UnderDog988 Of course there would still be war. It is who and what we are! It is in our nature to destroy ourselves, and everything around us. It is how and why we are top predator. There will never be world peace, and all types of societies and cultures will continue to see violence. Religion just increases it even more.
55atras 3 months ago
@55atras um no our nature is not to destroy ourselves, are nature is to dominate each other. We want to better then one and other. More beautiful, smarter, stronger, more powerful, etc. Witch creates straine and make us fight amoung each other.
UnderDog988 3 months ago
@55atras Wars and torture would have concured with or without religion. Religion is just what greed has hid behind...could just as well be anything else. Religion in it self is not bad, coruption is.
jacobfad 2 months ago 31
@jacobfad But isn't that the point? that religion is the problem because its used for corruption, although it may not naturally be a moral problem, it has become one whether its liked or not.

Religion no matter what religion now shouldn't even be considered if you're educated. If you believe in the bible, torah, etc (whatever the hell religion you are) over evolution and science, you need help.
stayeducated1 8 months ago
@stayeducated1 It's funny that you think you're somehow superior to religious people. You believe in the theory of evolution because you were taught to do so, just like religious people are taught to believe in God. There really isn't a big difference between your theory and theirs.
LibertyJusticeTruth 8 months ago
@LibertyJusticeTruth Actually no, I was born and raised a catholic, until I was 13 and had biology and learned about all these theories. I'm 15 now.
stayeducated1 8 months ago
@stayeducated1 That view is something many of us would call downright ignorant. you see in reality it was never religion it self that caused the problems. it was people thinking that others are inferior for whatever reason. also if you are such a avid believer of evolution then how do you explain changes in the number of chromosomes in the process of evolution>? thus far as science has observed, such drastic changes cause delibating effects. ex in humans an extra chromosome causes down syndrome.
ThehellfireShow 8 months ago
@stayeducated1
yes we came from nothing with the help of no one and this is science. so...yeah...right.
roniepao 3 months ago
@roniepao Well if religion wasn't against science I would consider it, but in the old testament in the bible, or the torah, or quran most of the things that happen aren't possible. Unless you consider them moral stories? I never said that the big bang theory is 100% correct, it just fits better than most religions... If you have an argument for me, I'd be more than willing to listen. I'm not narrow minded, I've been looking for the meaning of life and why we're here for a while.
stayeducated1 3 months ago
@stayeducated1 rational words, stayeducated1. A lot of things in the Bible are credited as miracles, which are admittedly not possible by the laws of the world we live in. Its hard to believe the earth is 4000 years old, as usher's chronology asserts, so world probably wasn't literally created in 7 days, but I'm not opposed to God (a supernatural force) starting things with a big bang (science has a lot of evidence for it). Science disproves literal interpretation in my opinion.
UltimateGingerBalls 3 months ago
@stayeducated1
just because we count from 0 to 10 doesnt mean numbers came from 0. 0 cant do anything because its zero. haha. to produce number, we need a source of number. and that number is infinity.
roniepao 1 month ago
@stayeducated1 religion against science? It was the Judeo-Christian value system that inspired the rapid advancements in the arts and sciences during the Renaissance (and allowed the West to catch up to the East) and encouraged the hard work and free trade values that fueled the Industrial Revolution. If anything, it was "religion" with the right value system that encouraged the creation of modern society.

This documentary dedicates in all about 18,00 minutes to the one of the greatest men that ever lived Justinian I. The Americans or Brits never released a movie about his life, or even a full length documentary. It is shamefull ?
MrAugustus88 8 months ago
This isn't that atheist, for I personally am a Catholic and believe in and follow God, but Clovis for example, was not a real Christian, and what they say is quite accurate. During the dark ages the Catholic Church was greatly distorted, nothing like today. And even now, in some parts of the world their are countless corrupt priests. So don't blame the Church of documentary, blame the individuals who failed

mnytaful 1 year ago
@mnytaful did u even watch the vid, u didnt even get the point of the whole vid, clovis was a pagan, who used christianity as a political move, he wasnt a christian, he was a pagan decised as a christian, like hitler, and most of the american presidents from the 1930s to present time, most of christianity is more or less pagan rituals, iv seen alot of paganism in the churches, but thats cus christianity is so powerfull that its a threat to the pagans,so they infultrate and preach paganism+christ
crypticwriteings 1 year ago
@mnytaful Pay attention to one significant matter! What was Christianity at the beginning, what happened to the first Christians? Now Islam. From the very first moment it was created, islam conquered, plundered and assimilated. Only later became Christianity a tool in the hands of greedy. Although it's controversial sometimes, the basic idea of Christianity differed very much from what the kings and leaders turned it into.
Lachausis 1 year ago
@Lachausis
Ignorance is an epidemic.
mnytaful 1 year ago
@mnytaful Bla, bla, bla... ignorance.. bla, bla, bla. Islamic immigration is epidemic. Who is pastor Terry Jones? I don't need others to tell me what I can read. It's hard to hide an obvious truth, but easy to ignore it, if you want to. I bet you think stoning to death is western propaganda. Darkness of mind is bliss! It's pointless to argue. You won't change my point of view and I won't change yours.
Lachausis 1 year ago
Look @Lachausis
I give damn fuck to all religions, first of all Islam and then the other ones, ALL of them... For me they are epidemic all... My point of view is to prevent hate, after all we all are humans... Just imagine how many people were are and will be killed because of fucking bloody religions, just imagine how many people living in misery because of religion... Right?
mnytaful 1 year ago
@mnytaful Religion can fuck up a person pretty much, it must be kept out of state affairs. It's the people that use it as tools for power. Luckily, Christianity has changed, at least many Christians have. I do not deny God, I believe in God, but I would never follow anyone who would say to harm others in the name of God. There is one thing about islam though. If Christianity is just sort of plain religion, then Islam is more - it's a system, both military and political, a totalitarian one.
Lachausis 1 year ago
@Lachausis
Religion can fuck up every thing indeed...
mnytaful 1 year ago
@mnytaful I agree about that faith should be sort of an intimate matter of every individual. Once you raise it above masses in a form of ultimate law, it becomes dangerous in the hands of fanatics. All things have extremes, even faith to God.
Lachausis 1 year ago

Valmarith 1 year ago 76
I also find that American cowboy historian with the short white beard absolutely insufferable. Every documentary he is in, he can not help but throw out stupid folksy sayings and personal opinions as history.

@Valmarith ,
RocktheSocks 1 year ago

deltapunk21 1 year ago
@deltapunk21 ,
I'm of like mind in regards to HC becoming more anti-christian.
RocktheSocks 1 year ago
@deltapunk21 In my country I am considered more of a conservative than a leftist, but you are probably one of those overly politicized black and white thinking right winged American Christians I hear so much about. The History Channel often presents a strong Christian bias, it even has religious specials that present Christian religious propaganda as historical fact. They constantly air shows like 'The Next Anti-Christ' and other such nonsense. But not all history reflects well on your religion.
Valmarith 1 year ago
@Valmarith I agree with you. The History Channel used to have documentaries and shows dealing with real history, but now it's all about 2012, UFOs, Bible Code, Nostradamus, and that god awful Ice Road Trucker nonsense. I can't believe that the History Channel is leading people to believe that ancient aliens assisted in building the Egyptian pyramids, or that secret codes in the Bible can predict the future.

@Valmarith What historical inaccuracies are in the documentary? Also, I hope someone with your historical expertise is not so naive as to believe that history is unbiased. @Valmarith so, "a little more Christian," is a bad thing. well i guess so. if you say so. you must know what you are talking about. i mean, really, how can Christianity be any good to anyone at all? it can't possibly, can it? nothing good was ever done by Jesus or any of his followers throughout history to this day and probably beyond. not one good deed. ever.

other than that, you are pretty well right on about the history channel.

@magedogtag well, it is a bad thing if its creating more of a bias towards christianity, than any other religion... christianity has obviously left its mark in history, and should be documented as such, but it shouldnt affect the point of view given by documentaries of the history channel.
