  • this is like an episode of XFile... except it's true... scary no matter how many times I watch this

  • Study in Denmark and Seychelles (chef-project.dk/PDF/JpnJEnvSci.pdf, The last pages are in English.) shows that we cannot tell that mercury in whale and fish affects people. Concentration of mercury in fish which Minamata victims consumed is much higher than that of normal whale and fish.

  • ...this i terrifying. how the fuck am I supposed to sleep now!?

  • For those of you who think vaccines are deadly, please explain how I'm not convulsing/dead. I've got every mandatory vaccine imaginable. Btw, for those of you who are anti-animal testing, do you really want us to test this in humans? Would you volunteer your sister to save 1 cat?Animals may be different than us, but many diseases that affect us, affect them similarly. Ie: rabies

  • The audio on all the minimata videos have been tampered... 0:20 example. Those sounds were not there when these videos were uploaded.

  • I actually remember hearing a tiny bit about this at school when I was a kid once, they never explained much though, onlly that there was a disease going around Japan because of the mercury in seafood. I wish they'd shown this video, whould've really reinforced the point of "Don't mess with mercury!"

  • 1:52 the cat didn't land on its feet

  • I think the reason the idea of the cats hits me and a lot of others harder than the patients is because we forced this horrible disease upon them-- the humans caught it naturally.

And to me, that is much more cruel.

  • So disturbing what people can do to animals. Of course I feel bad for the people, at the same time it is shocking how they could deliberately cause such unnecessary suffering to these animals in useless 'experiments', it's a cat not a human, so the findings will always be useless.

  • Japan = no safety culture, maximum production STILL!!

  • @athleticodan Not totally true, this situation brought about much stiffer regulations (of course it took 2 decades) but the sad thing is now China, in the 21st Century, and with Japan as a cautionary tale, is on EXACTLY the same path, at an even larger scale. I'm not saying everything is corruption-free in Japan; TEPCO's handling of the Fukushima plant showed that transparency is not flowing easily, but the pace of production seems more sane than it was in the 1960's.

  • @TheRealMrsLautner WTF is wrong with you?

  • so bad. I hope it is no more happening in any part of the earth. Let's keep our environment clean :)

  • @TheRealMrsLautner

    fucking tard

  • Mercury Fulminate is in many human Vaccines .. your doctor knows this and still injects the toxic preservative into his "PATIENTS" Think twice before you vaccinate

  • @peterm3964 You are stupid. You and idiots like you will be responsible for the re-emergence of smallpox. It's unfortunate that if you get it you will also cause people around you to die as some people can't get the vaccine because of medical complications that can arise from them. They realy on Herd Immunity. You are putting other people at risk not just your stupid self and your medically neglected children, but people that really on everyone else to vaccinate themselves. You fucking twit.

  • @geragna seems to me the fucking twit here is you

  • @Blackgeoff1 Great arguement. Go back to kindergarten.

  • @geragna Better still, you could educate yourself a bit before putting your ignorance on display. Mercury compounds aren't necessary in vaccinations. Even if you want to believe that vaccinations do the job they set out to do, the mercury component is not the active ingredient - but you can find out all the real facts for yourself if you take time away from trolling around youtube. It requires an open mind, though you appear to merely have a hole in the head

  • Dolphin meat contains very high levels of mercury - extremely dangerous for humans, severe brain disorders can result. Japan's government health standards for max. mercury in food: 0.4 ppm. Dolphin meat from Taiji tested: 100 ppm. The sale of Taiji dolphin meat seriously endangers the health of Japanese people, foreign business travellers +tourists visiting Japan ! Google for yourself: Dr.Endo+mercury Taiji/ LMU professor +dolphins. The sale of Taij dolphin meat has to STOP !!

  • poor cats

  • Are you guys aware that in your "silver" dental fillings there is mercury. It is made up of approximately 50% mercury actually.

  • @ParadigmShift22 but the one that causes the disease is toxic mercury

  • @ParadigmShift22 That's inorganic base metal mercury. The really bad stuff is organic mercury like dimethyl and methyl mercury found here.

  • hammertime

  • Oh man :(

  • Cat :(

  • Ah, the governments of our world have all gone ape s*** crazy in unison. There's you're apocalypse right there. It's a long time coming.

  • This is not like using human for bio-weapon development. It's so serious, I really don't care they use cats for experiments in such circumstances...

  • I have to correct my previous post...According to a book about Minamata disease that I've read recently, there WERE some cats used for the experiments... Sorry folks.

  • I'm a Japanese guy living in Fukuoka prefecture near Minamata. Some of you misunderstood about the cats. Those cats were found in the fishing villages in Mimamata-city after they had eaten enough of polluted fishes to go that way. They had not been poisoned as the experiments...But hey, in 2011 now, Japanese government is doing a huge radioactive experiment with human, I mean with us all Japanese citizens. People in the world, keep your eyes on what's going on in my cruel country.

  • @mediator Japan has long been not our friend. America should have took over and woop those evil people/beings. Japan had been divided by China long ago for a reason.

  • @mesitaro The Chisso factory's hospital director, Hajime Hosokawa, established a laboratory to carry out his own experiments into the disease in July 1959. Food to which factory wastewater had been added was fed to healthy cats. Seventy-eight days into the experiment cat 400 exhibited symptoms of Minamata disease and pathological examinations confirmed a diagnosis of organic mercury poisoning. The company did not reveal these results and ordered Hosokawa to stop his research.[17] From Wiki

  • this kind of poison is very creepy.

  • If they're going to dump shit into their own drinking water, what do you expect? I just feel sorry for the cats.

  • lol

  • why the hell did they use cats for their experiment!!! IDIOT!

  • @SuperMusicfan95 The same reason the use mice, rats, monkeys, and other animals. Better them than us.

  • no offence to anyone in japan but.......your government is sick

  • @Thedogwhomeows You'll be surprised to hear what the American government does.

  • GOSH !! poor little cats ..... poor babes

  • how about americans experimenting with humans?

  • fuck the cats what about humans

  • LOL cat?

  • This is so sad.. ;(

  • that was really scary.........all day all night u are moving..dancing in the night..lol.. joke only..but it is really scary.......... and it is waste of energy

  • that was really scary.........

  • oh god the poor cats... what asians?

  • poor cats :(

  • @twindwick : It was not an experiment....

  • Corporate greed at it's best.....

  • creepy.

  • dolphin meat has been tested to about 2000 ppm mercury!!! japan needs a serious culture change. STOP WHALING OR MINIMATA: THE SEQUEL WILL BE COMING TO A HOSPITAL NEAR YOU, you morons

  • Well I had a buddy of mine who is American who put a Mercury on Japanese exchange student...A guy, here in California & he became just like that. ...The American guy? he thought he can get away with it but he's got arrested .

  • These energy saving light bulbs are full of mercury. People just dumping them in the garbage. The land fills will be full of them. Poisoning us everywhere.

  • Mercury poisoning must get you high as fuck.

  • @DuhyatheSecond Before it kills you, yes.

  • @twindwick Then rat owners would get umad too.

  • @ninetysevenecho I'm not telling anyone to do it. I'm literally asking a non-variant question. I hear lots of reports saying that it shouldn't be done.

  • @ninetysevenecho Then why not go to Minamata and eat the seafood?

  • Damn i pitty those poor cats T_T

  • @twindwick they did it on cats because they were already affected from eating the fish.

  • poor kitties... and humans..

  • What kind of soulless people test this shit on cats? What kind of thought process leads them to believe this is acceptable behaviour? I'm starting to doubt this "all people are created equal" thing..

  • @sonicBlue00 i might be wrong but before seeing this i heard that cats were first experiencing seizures due to them being fed fish more regularly. Through experimenting on the affected cats they found out what the cause was.

  • @braindamagehurts44 you're right about the cats. Locals called it "dancing syndrome" in cats and it was noticed a couple years before any human minamata disease occured.

  • 0:21 the company manufactured NITRO-GENOUS FERTILIZERS + mercury

  • Poison the sea, poison yourself.

  • People are cheap. Protecting the environment is costly. Simple as that. Ill people are also a big market. There is no interest in keeping people healthy. People without demands are a threat to the capitalistic system.

  • @MillyVanillification Wrong, then outmoded industries have to adapt or shrink. People being satisfied of hunger don't have to farm all day long and thus have more time to devote to new industries that are enabled by such a paradigm shift. You should open your view of possibilities. 97% of Americans were farmers when the country was founded, now only 3% are and the U.S. is a leading food exporter for billions of people. Technological and commercial innovation provides new paradigms.

  • Japan always explicate that in USA, in EUROPA, there are more murders, kills, and so forth than it.

It's true. But there is a thing harder there: Corruption.

Yakuzas, the new "samourais" ...were payed for hit and terrorized victims of Minamata during 20 years.......payed by the company and governement.

  • poor cat :(

  • @dithcutie i dont want to say its funny, but its interesting that people can see a grip of people suffering and they can only feel sorry for the cat.

  • @israelgaribaldi people are evil. cats are not

  • @jnmynes Making, you evil as well of course. Just remember that.

  • @israelgaribaldi I don't want to say it's funny, but it's interesting that you can get a grip on the cats suffering and feel sorry for the people and then go making a comment about it.

  • @dithcutie I am ashame of you...

  • @dithcutie poor people :(

  • @twindwick why don't they experiment on black people

  • Shut the hell up @grahmcrackers,

ALOT OF PEOPLE WOULD HATE YOU FOR SAYING THAT, CAT'S ARE WAY TOO SMART TO WITHSTAND THAT, IT SHOULD BE ON RAT'S OR SOMETHING.

  • @twindwick

cats are funnier to look at. -___-

  • The Addams Family Theme Lyrics The Addams Family - code for Minamadda - mad cow from eating the cows of the sea. Minds gone. They're creepy and they're kooky, Mysterious and spooky, They're all together ooky, The Addams Family. Their house is a museum Where people come to see 'em They really are a scream The Addams Family. (Neat) (Sweet) (Petite) So get a witches shawl on A broomstick you can crawl on We're gonna pay a call on The Addams Family.
  • 1:58 "Tunak tunak tun tunak tunak tun tunak tunak tun dadada!"

  • THIS IS SAD. BUT FUNNY.

  • what the japan government did to them is unforgivable, no amount of money would help them.

  • Bristol Palin used Minamata to her advantage on Dancing With The Stars. Lotsa whales in Alaska -- so, a whole lotta Minamata goin' on. Oh that clever Palin Family -- when life hands them a lemon, they really know how to make lemonade. I'm not saying there's AIDS in the family. But Sarah Palin knew that by having that Down's Syndrome Baby, she was a slam-dunk for getting millions of votes from the Down's Syndrome Electoral College. They especially like Down's Babies Who Can Do Trig, his name.

  • @twindwick Because that's why the Challenger exploded and the Apollo 1 disaster occurred. NASA experiments on rats, monkeys -- you name it. They must have Minamata or maybe just plain old-fashioned mad cow. Instead of sticking their heads through telescopes, NASA needs to listen to Michael Jackson's song Ben, about his pet rat, and then to John Lennon's song Instant Karma.

  • Kathie Lee Gifford and Hoda act like they have Minamata Disease. Maybe from eating kangaroo meat. Regis Philbin didn't want to catch Minamata -- that's why Kathie Lee had to leave the Regis show. I wonder if you can catch Minamata through the TV screen. Ratings have gone down since Kathie Lee appeared on The Today Show.

  • Such evil and ignorance inflicted on the innocent in pursuit of profit...

  • In the suffer from mercury poisoning of Minamata, the polluted drainage of the enterprise is a cause.

  • @green1kat

Don't forget the tinfoil hat. Can't be to careful this day and age.

  • we learned about this in science and it shocked me that many got seizures like this and the Chisso company didn't do anything and even bribed/threatened the villagers to keep the company running.all i could think of was all the poor people and especially the cats. :( this really disturbed me...

  • We learnt about this in my geography class, I felt shooked and disturbed when I watched it.

  • @guigs219 Watch Life After People.

  • Could you please upload this to teachertube in order to make the video accessible within public high schools (many block access to youtube).

    Thank you!

  • FUCK JAPAN !

FUCK TO THE EVIL FISHERMAN !

LEAVE THOSE POOR ANIMALS ALONE !

    FUCKASS !

  • @kellyor12 Its not japans fault its the companies fault, they poured mercury waste into the rivers, nobody knew about it until a decade later, the mercury will consume fish and people will eat it, this was going on for a decade unti the company owned up, so how the hell is it the fisher mans fault....

  • I heard that the company claimed that they got nothing to do with it because they "only used elemental merecury, not organic merecury"....

....yeah right. Like it's gonna stay as droplets in the water without being converted.

  • I lol'd at the cat.

    I'm going to hell.

  • @icsomethingshiny124 im admitting i kinda did too but HOW DARE YOU THOSE POOR CATS ):

  • 1:58.....i think i just found the newest drummer to my band!!!!!!!!!

  • If you want to have a non-sensational view on Minamata Disease, go and read "Kugai Jôdo" /"Paradise in the Sea of Sorrow" by Ishimure Michiko (it's half documentary, half narrative) - also translated to German and some Parts to Spanish, too.. as far as I know...

  • ah now i understand what happen........

    poor old all fishing.....

    poor old cats years ago!!

    Japanese fishermen is evil!!

they would leave dolphins Alone!!! --- they need stop kill dolphins!

    FUCK Japan!

    God help me!

  • man, that's freaky

  • zombie mutation coverup.

  • !? ok......... ^_^

  • japs eat all the shit in the world..thats mother mature revenge.

  • Chisso's response was "Oh you guys are taking legal action? We'll just hire Yakuza to silence and intimidate you." Wickedly ran company.

  • wtf cats?!?!?!

  • @belle272414 ah come on! gotta love the kitties!

  • How horrific! Must be hell on earth for those people and their families. I cried when it got to the part with the cats.

  • my teacher once told us that Mercury Poisoning is a painful process until you die. Probably one of the nastiest ways to die really.

  • wtf HAHAHA 2:00. i think he is trying to fly

  • @skarjx He IS flying! Just kidding around, it's kind of messed up lol

  • Interesting fact : The Chisso Corporation dumped about 28 tons of concentrated mercury over a small area during a 10 year period. The EPA estimates that America produces about 90 tons of mercury pollution per year, half of it ( from the burning of coal) goes right up into the atmosphere. Makes 'ya wonder, huh?

  • there is MUCH more to know. Tests MUST include hair, saliva done correctly, fecal, 24-hour fractionated urine porphyrine, endocrine challenge, packed erythrocyte tests. Some excretory pathways no longer function to test well. AND they have to be evaluated PROPERLY. This vid is a clip. The fact is those at the factory KNEW, covering it up after Minamata disease emerged. Later after court, arrogantly saying, "$200/ victim-what more do you want!" "I want my father & child back one poignantly said"

  • Creepy video......

  • I am saddened by this epidemic that man has brought upon themselves. I feel horribly for those effected that lived lives in seclusion because of the disease. The Japanese fishermen in Taji do slaughter dolphins for their meat and sell live dolphins. The meat does include mercury. Wat was interesting to me was the claim that fishermen made saying that the people knew what they were eating. That was not the case in interviews with those in the bigger cities.

  • mercury poisoning = horrible death

  • And still, japenis never realize that eating dolphins is a nice way to have mercury poisoning. Look at all those poor people. They were the victims, but their descendants are now hunting down dolphs and having their mercury in their body!

  • A bit sensationalized? Anyways, I used to teach English to a researcher here in Japan who was researching this disease. The struggle for compensation continues to this day. For less severely affected victims and their families to even get recognized is hard, and it's even harder for those surviving victims to get even near enough compensation for their medical needs due to a system that makes it hard for them to ask for more. Neither company or gov't did anything for 20 years,

  • @Gokunama not sensationalized TONED DOWN. Factory KNEW it was causing it. tried to cover it up for years. ALL FISH IS TO SOME DEGREE POISON NOW NO MATTER WHAT CRAP A "STUDY" OR SOLD OUT AGENCY SAYS. A few northern-most cold water tiny fish are ok. The factory owners eventually faced charges in court. Search out the full documentary. even then the owner was the very model of Mr. Burns of the Simpsons "we GAVE u $200 dollars? what more could u want?" "Give me back my father & child" was a reply

  • @howlingsandy - I'm talking about the video itself, not the events themselves.

  • @Gokunama I know, but this too is actually toned down (as gruesome as it is in part) by being just a piece of the full documentary. the scenes are just as things were but there was much more (if not this film, another) far worse due to that, as some doctors worked diligently to ascertain the cause, it was already long-known to be from mercury by the company's scientists (Life Magazine has photos and the movie - when I can get to it in storage - will list the name) I survived this, a close call

  • ops! my cat has this disease

  • this is not information/documentary, is sensationalism... c'mon, why this music and scaring sounds?

  • @almohadillaseisefes : From what I have seen in documentaries; when human life is lost, sad/scarry music is often used. I do see a scientific/psychological argument your comment, I'll change the word "documentary" to "clip" in the description. I'll also change the title (replace the word "disaster" to "story"). But even if an upbeat tune is used, the result is the same. mercury is a poisonous, the people of Minamata bay has suffered a great lost and this documentary has raised awareness.

  • @almohadillaseisefes : Sorry I cant mute the music, The clip is under copyright which does not belong to me.

  • I like from 1:40-1:49 do a barrel roll lol

  • Indusrial polution is quite different level from dolphin meat.

"The Cove" tried to make link between different issue.

    This is typical Propaganda.

  • This factories are a motherfuckers

  • @muizainal--Thank you!

  • What about the Faroe Islanders---all of the dolphins and whales they kill test high for Mercury....wouldn't the islanders test high for Mercury as well?? Thanks!

  • @RockyMissouri : Since mercury (organic) bio-accumulates, one may assume that the islanders would have elevated levels of mercury in them as well provided that whale & dolphin meat is a large portion of their normal diet.

  • @muizainal It isn't a portion of their normal diet. I Know 5 Families That Are From the Faroe Islands they eat dolphin meat & whale meat only around the time of the national Hunt, even though I try to tell them about how it's wrong...

  • @muizainal Nope.

No Whales & Dolphins. Especially south of Japan.

  • @RockyMissouri: There are many factors that may contribute to elevated levels of mercury in the body. How much bioaccumalation occurs depends on several factors, such as; type of mercury (organic/ inorganic), route of entry (inhalation, ingestion, dermal), the half life of mercury in different tissues (Eg; brain tissue has a longer half life compared to blood) and the body's natural motabolism rate.

  • @RockyMissouri: To assume that One will have high mercury due to seasonal consumtions of contaminated fish is not the most scientific observation. A sure way to really find out is to get a mercury urine or blood test during zero consumption and peak consuption. Please bare in mind, other control factors that may result in an error to the results.

  • @muizainal the type of mercury & the route of entry also affect symptoms, some forms of organic mercury will kill u in few days, while the accumulation of other forms in fatty tissues such as liver or brain can lead to anorexia, short sightening and amnesia

  • @RockyMissouri yes. I think Rosemary's Baby was about this syndrome. And the song Hello Mudda (Minamata), Hello Faddah is probably about this disease too. The Whale Wars waged by the Sea Shepherd are the last hope for the Japanese to avoid this horrible insanity-causing illness. But based on their insistence to kill and eat an endangered species such as whales -- well, looks like insanity has already taken over the Japanese. And they have the supertoy. Sounds like a no-brainer to me.

  • @RockyMissouri Maybe Sarah Palin's baby was misdiagnosed. She eats whale blubber doesn't she?

  • @etbella3 Maybe Sarah Palin was misdiagnosed.

  • @RockyMissouri I like the song All Shook Up.

  • @guigs219 everytime scientists do that kind of experiments they use animals, it's REALLY sad but by that they can observe the process of a disease and also determin what's poisoning and what's not.

  • it's impossible to determine if a fish is infected by the disease because every fish u extract from the water starts to have epilepsy

  • i speechless. its.....just....awfull

  • nuke that SHIT UP >:( poor cat's poor pepool y dont wana get this :( this is like sizure but this is worster :(

  • Poor people poor cats poor fish!!! The factories are evil T-T

  • Autism is merely a less sever form of minamata disease.

  • Thank goodness for Public Health education, we now know what causes the outbreak.

  • @guigs219 Thank you for this post. I am so sick of hearing the Jap, remark and what we should have done to them in ww2. For those of us who live there and know the real culture, it is a small percentile that are giving a bad name to the many.

  • You are a sick, sick individual if you feel worse for the suffering cats in this video than you do the afflicted humans.

    Fucking PETAtards.

  • @velocitas

    Stop being so ignorant.

I feel awful for both, but animals can never be as spoiled or do crimes like people can.

They were being fed mercury just because people wanted to see effects. Then died for the sake of an experiment. Yeah, I do feel bad for them. Doesn't make me a PETArd, mate. It's like a child and adult dying - sorry, but most would feel worse over an innocent child.

Saying that, the affected people also had nothing to do with it.

  • @guigs219

ohh your'e an atheist... you dont believe any gods... thats nice.. anyway ... yeah i respect youre coment but .. still as christians ... god made some animals for us humans to be eaten.. well you said this conversation is not about religion .. but still it talks about religion ... so its not a sin or crime for us.. okay.. have a nice day to!! XD
