  • Me and 3 ladies have started a Derby team in our hometown. Can't wait to roll against other teams

  • VERY COOL.

  • bitchin'!

  • I LOVE THIS VIDEO

  • 20 dollar love "holy roller"

  • What's the background song and who's it by, please?

  • love it

  • We've done Helmet Cams on Refs in Banked track in LADD: and PoobahSCRG is right: the refs do a lot of looking back and forth...

I don't think that's a really bad thing actually, as I don't think we'd ever do such a long montage of footage from a single camera like this--- it's just not the best way to follow the game: but we do like to pull highlights from the helmet cams, and you'll see footage from those cams pop up in our promo material once in a while...

  • What ruleset is this played under, i'm seeing so much track cutting and blocking OOB... funny the part tho where hes pointing frantically at someone to get off haha

Great footage tho, man I wish I could skate and block like those girls!!

  • This was last September's Eastern Regional tournament in Madison, WI. So it's WFTDA 3.1.

  • What I'm getting at is that shooting with a helmet cam from the inside doesn't work as well as from the outside. The videos I've seen tend to look like helmet cams on a skater. The head keeps looking back, forth and around (avoiding collisions with jam refs, etc). It doesn't give clear and steady view of the action like a helmet cam on an outside ref does.

One way to maybe make this work with a banked track is to have a ref-less jam with one skater on the inside shooting video.

  • It seems a lot faster from helmet cam vs watching from the stands.

  • Not bad at all. Imagine how this would look on a banked track?!

  • Probably not as good. There's no place for an outside ref on a banked track. Ref cams on the inside don't work as well because the refs have to constantly look to be aware of the position of the other inside refs (so they don't collide).

An outside ref is either doing a full lap or half lap skate-and-wait. If he's a good enough skater, he never needs to look away from the pack.

  • Poobah -- I think you know what I meant. With a banked track, you don't need the outside refs anyway. There's a railing. You leave the skating area, you're out of bounds.

I was just talking about how it would look on the banked track where skaters can stay on the surface easier and speeds increase due to the banked corners.

  • Yea....I know what our Refs are getting for X-mas !!

  • I love the Maryland flag helmet. Go MD!

  • 2:53

    that's just sweet....

  • This works FAR BETTER than a helmet cam worn by a skater. Usually it's because the skater keeps looking backward and forward, which gets dizzying. I think an outside ref works even better than an inside ref, as that's where the best blocking tends to happen.

  • This is awesome times a million! Hope we get more footage in the future like this!

  • ZOMG THIS IS AWESOME!! This was much better than the view from Bad Decisions in Baltimore!! Looking good CCRG!!!

  • Baaad Asssssss!

  • Yep. This is awesome.

  • This is how derby was meant to be filmed. I love how you get a realistic perspective of the movement in the pack, a skater's perspective really. Looks great!
