Omg! That is so cool! I loved the way you showed the beginning of its life. Mangos are my favorite fruit, you made it easy for me to start growing one! Thanks a lot! I really appreciate it!
I just put my 3 mango seeds which all have about 1 inch roots in pots with potting mix outside on my deck ( I live in NJ, so it gets between 87-93 usually during the day). I watered each of them pretty good with luke warm water. How often should I water them? Should I keep the water constantly moist or let it dry out a little? And how much sunlight should they see? Right now they are on a part of the deck which doesn't get direct light.
@26121944 Actually, while mangoes are very popular in India, there are several varieties indigenous to other areas. The most common mango is the Indian mango (magnifera indus) but other species exist as well.
WTF? you left the husk on. and leaving the husk will increase the time of the sprouting thingo. your'e video is poor. theres so many easier ways to do it. i've seen your videos. and no offence but they suck. i dont trust you, my friends dont and youtube dosen't. i hope you don't make it up as you go along.
@candy18869 that's the outer layer. It takes really long for it to grow that way. MangoPlantMaker is referring to the inner seed which you remove the outer layer which we are seeing in her video.
This is the slow way, for those of you with less patience.. You can take the inner seed out carefully with a knife and soak the seed in wet paper towels for a few days. The little sprout will emerge, then you can then plant it in the soil and it's on it's journey ;)
youtiublah: I don't think Cameron Highlands has a distinct dry season to produce sweet mangoes. Based on what you're saying, it sounds like you've got anthracnose problems, which means your mangoes are most likely not the Southeast Asian variety. However, did you check for Oriental fruitflies? They are real pain with mango cultivation here.
thats cause there is a very low probability for seed grown mangos to produce edible mangos, experienced mango growers use the seeds for the root stalk & graft a branch from a edible mango tree onto the main stalk to "clone" the exact tree & produce the exact same quality fruit on the new one, Also the seed in this video looks like it still has the husk on it. Its far better to remove the husk so the seed doesn't have to fight that very tough husk, but be carefull not to damage the seed inside!
I live in the Cameron Highlands of tropical Malaysia, I have tried growing mango here. The tree grows well but when the fruits come out they got rot due to fungus infection. Some good ones were too sour.

@californiadajatt
In India, they just put the seeds on the ground, put a little dirt on top, and water. They trees grow just fine.

One thing she didn't mention is taking the seed out of the pit. I always do this when starting mango seeds.

every fruit is her favorite..

Or you could do the smart thing and peel off the fibrous husk off the seed, put it in some high moist soil, and watch the plant grow in under a week.
