  • does this song have a name or is this just an improv jam?

  • Why not come and see the North Mississippi Allstars at the world famous Dingwalls, Camden, London on Wednesday 11th May. Tickets from Dingwalls website.

  • I smoked a joint with Cody about 7 years ago in Columbus Ohio. Very nice people.

  • Luther also plays guitar with the Black Crowes.

  • Luther Dickinson and the drummer Cody Dickinson are the sons of well known musician and producer Jim Dickinson who played piano on The Rolling Stones "Wild Horses".

  • This is inspiration.

  • luther slide playing is awesome... its like he is trowing random notes across the fretboard and all of them works, it seems so easy!

  • does any one know what guitar Dickinson is using

  • Its so cool he is with the Black Crowes now. His playing on Before the Frost is quality

  • BAAAAAADDDAAAAASSSSSSSSS

  • When most guitar players solo too much is sucks, but I just want to hear all of what he's playing and saying. That is rare. I think this guy is unique.

  • i had the chance to go see them at a club in memphis where i live, i had a test the next day so i paaed it up b/c i hadnt heard of them, BIG MISTAKE

  • I love this guy!

His playing is so lyrical on this tune.

Makes an instrumental song sound like a tune with vocals.

    Kudos.

  • Hey, I am the person who recorded and posted this clip and I couldnt agree with you more. Luther blew me away that day, and this clip doesnt do justice to his performance.

For the record, I went to see them last month at a local club and Luther blew my socks off again. He is one special musician and one special person as well. You would think that a man who could play the guitar like that would have a giant ego, but Luther is one of the exceptions. He is a true renaissance man.

  • in some parts i think duane allman

  • yeah definitely I feel that too lol

  • Hes like a crazy slide version of Jeff beck.

  • NMA rocks....

  • Luther = the man.

  • Does anyone now the name of this song?

    Thanks

  • "mean old wind died down"

  • jimmy herring is a good guitar player chromatype but he could never play slide guitar like that...and luther can play outside the box...that isnt the point of this song though...so therefore you are a fool...

  • thats bruce dickinson he does guitar lessons on time warner cable on demand

  • You're right about the On-Demand Cable lessons, the dude does a great job teaching "All Right Now", but you mean Luther Dickinson. Bruce Dickinson is the singer for Iron Maiden

  • hey is that a duo jet or les paul, i can't tell?

  • duo jet for sure.

  • whAT A SEXY PERFORMER

  • luther is so cool

  • Allman Brothers licks , the blues and major scale does not a great guitarist make. But he is very good. Great would be Jimmy Herring or Allan Holdsworth. Save adjectives like great for players with broader ranges of talent.

  • nigga what.

    have you heard "Warpaint"?

you trippin' balls if you don't think Luther Dickinson is the second most fantastic guitar player under 50 years old. Derek Trucks being number one, but they are completely different breeds of guitar player, though Trucks is still... words cannot describe. >_> Leave it at that.

  • Derek Trucks. Amen to that. I don't like to rank guitar players like race horses, but Luther is definitely right up there with the best

  • i just checked out the guitarist you mentioned.

"Jimmy Herring or Allan Holdsworth" that ain't blues and it's certainly not rock and roll. those guys are lame.

  • And the lick that starts at 2:12 is fucking amazing...I want to jump up and dance and I'm watching this from a shitty computer.

  • One of the best guitarists of our day.

  • I think it's a Guild

  • The guitar looks like a les paul with a bigsby i mite be wrong tho

  • yea thats a goldtop with a bigsby and zebra p/u's

  • mean ol' wind die down.

  • these boys are great!!!!

  • Luther's got such great stage presence.

  • For the life of me, I cannot understand how these guys are not more popular. Very few can match Luther's talent, fuckin amazing.

  • check the last song on the movie Black Snake Moan, might sound familiar.

  • "He was whaling and having fun!" Hey! I always have fun when I go whaling too. Arrrr! There she blows me hearties! Seriously, Luther Dickenson kicks bottoms.

  • fucking brilliant

  • this is what it's all about :)

  • this is what it's all about :)

  • saw them in january, i didnt know them too well going into the concert, but since then and hearing hernando theyre definately one of my new favorite bands

cant wait till august so i can see luther with the black crowes, his playing on warpaint made the album in my opinion

  • he aint gonna be with the crowes for long. he just helped record warpaint and is touring with them until they can find another permenent guitar player

  • And now he is with The Black Crowes!!! Bring back Eddie and you have yourself the best

  • north mississippi allstars you guys look good on the late late show on tv its good to know that abc let you guys show your new music i like don't stop till you get your GRAMMY ! ! ! !

  • don't forget RCs...besides rednecks and racists...we also have the highest rate of "CORRUPTION" within our legal/police system as well! (Joey Langston, Richard "Dickie" Scruggs, Jim Waide, Jimmy Shelton, etc, etc, etc.

  • iwas right up front for this awesome set, luther dickenson is by far the most underrated guitar player along w/ derek trucks

  • ah i remember this... langerado comin up again yeaaa

  • One of the few things that makes me be a Mississippian. Despite all the stereotypes of our racist and redneck ways (which aren't all inaccurate), we do have some bitchin' musicians and music history. Rock on.

    Brother Robert

  • does anybody know what tunning he is in...im dying to know.

  • Open D

  • is that the same tuning that hes in for their version of shake em on down. and if so do you know of anywhere i can look at tabs for it?

  • Luther, I love you.

  • Na man they're from Hernando

  • You are correct my friend.

  • Just a state over the Allman Brothers. That southern sound I like. I do enjoy a nice slide solo.

  • from Oxford MIss and they are sick

  • i was totally at this show it was fucking awesome, and later that same day babam bela fleck and the flecktones and steven malkmus and the jicks it was awesome

  • My dad coulda been in that band. Cuz duyane burnside wanted him to but we had to go back home to see my sisters string concert :(

  • i had the fortune to be able to meet and do a guitar clinic with luther dickenson, after they played in charlottesville, he tought me a lot, and now i can play better then my teacher, which makes me laugh

  • i saw these guys when they warmed up for the Black Crowes at new years in madison square. They werre the first warm up band and they rocked the house so much more than even Trey from Phish who was the second warm up band =P

  • Totally amazing band, it's not easy trying to find music of this calibre over in England, in fact it's impossible, music is way to commercialised over here so getting bands albums like the NMA is so difficult.

Does anyone know if they are going to be touring England anytime soon?????

  • AMAZING!!!

  • I'm gonna see them tonight, they are opening for Bela Fleck & the flecktones. Seem very very nice by the way

  • Luther fuckin pwns it

  • Best performance at Langerado, can't wait till next year! peace

  • 1st...thanks so much for this clip. 2nd. I have seen a lot of shows and I have seen the NMA's a LOT. And Luther rocks it EVERY time. The first time I saw him a long long time ago I was convinced he was Jimmy Hendrix re-incarnated in this nerdy white guys body. Long Live NMA!

  • Luther is by no means a nerd! Hahaaha. Everything else you've said is true. :)

  • I thought the same thing about Hendrix after seeing him on video for the first time a few minutes ago.

It's the one entitled "north mississippi allstars".

    He's playing a flying V.

    Amazing playing and feel.

    I'm a new fan!

  • Rolling Stone Magasine recently recognized Luther as one of the new Guitar gods.

  • I've only seen them once live in Tuscaloosa, and I think its a shame more people don't know about them- they are amazing, and the most entertaining band I've seen live!

  • I too was amazed by his chops on the guitar.

I wasn't able to catch NMA's Friday nite gig, but I did see them Saturday nite. Vids will be posted this weekend on my channel. Thanks for this post.
