This song came out the year I was born. Buddy Holly died 12 years before. Listening to these lyrics always gives me goosebumps. The beginning when he mentions the paper headline and the near the end when he references the "girl who sang the blues" and him asking if she had "some happy news". I am picturing Janis Joplin in her sunglasses, long, untamed hair just smiling and walking away and leaving him to draw his own conclusions.
TRUE BLUE, thank you for putting this video up. But, to be polite, this isn't from 1972. Yes, I used to watch the '80's video show DEJA VU. This video was made FOR THE SHOW. It was a retro music show. if you look at it, the video clearly looks like the 80's, not nearly with a 70's look. Look at any video from the 70's an you'll see.
Hi WarDrum ... I think I fixed the description Title correctly. Thank you, any time I can put up something to help, please feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for you comment, Please find me a copy of the original that you are speaking of, then we can post that too.
My information is correct, I originaly VHS'd this off of a TV program, way back in the late '80's and saved the tape for many years. Recently I found that show on a LASER DISC and transferred it to digital format that you see here.
If you wish to check out that show, "research" "google" DEJA VIEW with John Sebastian ...
i was so happy to find this! Me and all my friends are in it! it was shot at our school John Burroughs High School! Thanks for posting! I have a vhs copy somewhere!

Happy 40th anniversary, American Pie. On this day 40 years ago, you hit #1 on the Billboard Charts. Never forget today, the day the music died.

Buddy Holly ... is the person "The Day the music died" ... according to Don Mclean at least.

What a sad little film. I dont think it's about American Pie though, not unless it's a childs interpretation.
