They easily had air superiority and if the Germans could have held the RAF long enough to get their troops across the channel, they would've been destroyed. The channel had very strong currents and would sweep away German transports and supplies, not to mention the RAF would come sooner or later to provide support and sink some ships. It would be a death trap for the Germans.

The French defences were completely inadequate and so the British were forced to Dunkirk, from then on it was the equivalent of 80 million Nazi population (Austrian-Germany) versus 40 millon Brits, of course Britain was in trouble then! Reader estimated, that to transport forces included in Halder's and Schniewind's plan (base for Seeloewe), they needed ships of overall tonnage 2 mln DWT. Whole German fleet had ships of 1,485 mln DWT (including passenger ships etc.). So they would have to confiscate all river barges, ferries, and other scrap, to only transport soldiers. Not even mentioning that fleet was busy, transporting wood, Swedish ore, etc.

They easily had air superiority and if the Germans could have held the RAF long enough to get their troops across the channel, they would've been destroyed. The channel had very strong currents and would sweep away German transports and supplies, not to mention the RAF would come sooner or later to provide support and sink some ships. It would be a death trap for the Germans.

@ddd1953 Just a tad. BUT if they'd managed to get air superioity they would have decimated the navy. (Torpedo bombers etc). Exactly what happened to America before they could get the air force ready.
