Greatest man in history, named Jesus, had no servants, yet they called him Master. Had no degree, yet they called him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet he conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him.. He was... buried in a tomb, yet He lives today
you know I kinda wonder if the one person who disliked was not a person of God. Now I don't mean to be like "You sinner!!! You're not a child of God!!!!!!" I really don't mean that. just saying
@liveyourlifeforJC There is also bombs, ak-47's, needles, gas masks, hand-cuffs, grenades, missiles, alcohol bottles, and airplanes on the cover. All the graphics are made with them.
@liveyourlifeforJC Listen to their song "Beautiful Things." It's about how God can take us-- dirty, sinful beings-- and make us into beautiful things.
@liveyourlifeforJC Well, they've made flowers and earth out of all those destructive things. I'm going to assume that it represents the fact that God can make something beautiful out of our imperfections, sin, and destructive natures.
I don't mean to be rude, but to me it seems as if beliving in god takes away the beauty of humanity. It portrays man as this treacherous immoral sinner that only god himself can domesticate. I don't like that idea.
Wouldn't it be more beautiful if the teachings of the Bible, are the wisdom of human beings... that mankind is capable of morality, ethics, writing beautiful music, poems, literature, having beautiful emotions, love, empathy, sympathy etc. ?
@TheLivirus I don't think that was a rude comment at all. What the Bible teaches is more that we have forgotten the beauty of humanity. The Bible is a story of incredible beauty - humanity created in the image of God - his most beautiful and crowning achievement of creation. Then, God, separated from his creation by sin chooses self-sacrificial love over judgement. It really is a beautiful story - I'd encourage you to read it carefully.
@jammanb3 Yeah, that's what they tell me, but when I open it up, it's not at all like that. To me it seem like people have glamorised the bible, focusing on the parts they agree with, neglecting the parts they don't. This selective interpretation makes the Bible reflect themselves more than it reflects any god. Still they don't realize that all this beauty and wisdom they find in the bible, is actually themselves.
@TheLivirus I completely agree that sometimes people will employ selective interpretation of the Bible. It's really easy to do this, for instance, if you haven't read the whole thing. Everything in the Old Testament points to a coming savior - a messiah. The N.T. talks about Jesus as the fulfillment of all of these O. T. writings.
You should start with the stories about Jesus and go from there. Have you read the Gospels (Mat, Mark, Luke, John)? I'd be interested in your take on those books.
The second I'll share is a bit more private. I've just spended time with God, reading the gospel, and praising him for he's mighty, and I've just read 1. Corinthians 13 v. 1-13, which made me laugh when I out of nowhere got to this song, I did'nt know this song before a couple of minutes ago, and when I listened to the lyrics I've just laughed. Laughed cause of God is so wonderfull and "send" me from that scripture to this song, to conferm. He is almighty, and has the worlds greatest humor. <3
@MiaTheMaija I heard 1Corinthians 13 read aloud at a wedding recently and somehow the way it was read that day it really touched me esp the part about the clanging cymbal or gong...how many times I must have sounded like that over the years to my kids. Anyway I thought how nice I hope this couple really has the kind of love God intended us to have...and I'm thinking this and suddenly my son (18) leaned over and kissed the top of my head for like no reason -- God was right there with us :-]AMEN
