Just adding a little guide here for the people who want to solo him on 4.0.1. After the 4.0.1patch released, the talent hawk eye was no more. The range of hunter shots have been increased, but it's just not enough to stay out of range of some of the boss spells (like this one with pyroblast). So what you want to do is down him as fast as possible. With the new mend pet (healing 25%health of your pet) and the new mending glyph (extra 3% healing per tick), mend pet heals 40%pet health over its

duration. Also, because armor penetration has been removed, most hunter gear has a huge amount of extra stamina. In other words, you won't have any problems keeping your pet up with mend pet and the T5 bonus. You actually heal enough for your pet to attack the boss instead of tanking one of his adds, because he lives through the debuff. A turtle for his special ability turtle shield and cower are advised skills though.

Because you get hit by pyroblast in patch 4.0.1 all the time, you want to dps the boss as much as possible. But even with not very good gear it should be doable. Just go all out on the boss, including your pet.

Holy shit, this was the hardest boss I ever solod. Could never have done it without the guide, thanks a lot! My pet had about 20k health and nearly died at the end. It's really a must to time your mana regain (viper aspect) on the turtle shield. A nerve wrecking yet amazing fight!

I don't think this is doable without 2 pieces of T5.

@legoman666 Scratch that, I was able to do it by finding a spot on the ledge behind Golemagg to stand. I had the dogs agroed to me so they evade bugged and I kept Golemagg on my pet by dps'ing super slow and MD. I did not have my pet attack him very often however because of the stacking debuff.
The rest of the bosses are cake compared to this fight.

Is it possible to do this without T5? My hunter only has t1/t2/t4, and t8 of course

Nope, you'll need the turtle's shell shield ability.
