Once in a decade a guitarist leaves a stamp of his unique playing style on the musical calender. Knopfler's guitar tones in the early 80's were like a breath of fresh air amidst an overdose of rock guitar, euro and techno beats, pussy cat meows and hound dog barks. His unique voice and singling style was a counterpoint to his playing style. No wonder, Bob Dylan became his fan from the other side of the hemisphere. I would prefer Mark's mellifluous guitar to Eric's harsher tones.
